Going "Over The Top"
Going "Over The Top"
#1
Over the top,
Nothin' standin' in my way, ooh
Nothin' anyone can say
Nothin' can stop me now
Gonna give it my best shot
Gonna make it over the top
So many people who
Sit and they laugh at fate
And then regret the chances
That they waste
I'm only human, too
Makin' the same mistakes
But give me half a chance
I'll show you what it takes
Across
The river deep, the mountain high
All that I want out of life's
On the other side
Over the top
Nothin' standin' in my way, ooh
Nothin' anyone can say
Nothin' can stop me now
Gonna give it my best shot
Gonna make it over the top
Some lucky people who
Reach out and touch a star
And never seem to think
They reach too far
One of the lucky few
That's who I wanna be
Makin' my dreams come true
Cause I believe in me
Success
Is nothin' but a state of mind
I know I'll never succeed
If I never try
Over the top
Nothin' standin' in my way, ooh
Nothin' anyone can say
Nothin' can stop me now
My heart keeps on tellin' me
Over and over
Gonna give it my best shot
Gonna make it over the top
I'm going over the top
Nothin' standin' in my way
On my way now
Nothin' anyone can say
Nothin gonna stop me now
Feel the fire burnin' hot
Feel it burnin'
Gonna give it my best shot
Gonna make it over the top
Gonna make it over the top
Over The Top, by Matsubara Miki, from the soundtrack to Dirty Pair: Project E.D.E.N.
I'm seeing two effects from this song. First, it cancels out any feelings that Doug can't do something, whether natural or imposed by a mind-controller. ("Nothin' standin' in my way, ... Nothin' anyone can say, Nothin' can stop me now")
Second, it gives Doug the magical equivalent of an adrenaline burst. In game terms, it gives him a +(something_noticeable_but_not_unbalancing) bonus to all rolls, as his improbability field goes "over the top".
These two together might be dangerous, if used in a situation where somebody needs to do something but Doug doesn't actually have the necessary skills... but it's a pretty-darned-useful combat song.
Of course, I'll Play for You transfers these bonuses from Doug to that song's target, instead.
(Bob, I'd appreciate a ruling on this one, since it's something that would come in handy during Blue Skies, Blue Water...)
