I obviously won't argue anything you use in your story, Fred.  Just a couple comments.

Allows Doug to learn all military traditions in whatever universe he happens to be in.

Mm.  Very useful.  I've got a place or two where I could employ this effect.

Allows Doug to empathically attack an opponent

Not the only song of that type he has...  one of these days I need to put Alanis Morrisette's "You Ought To Know" up "on-screen".
