Given that I'm looking at this on my celphone at the moment, it looks quite nice!

Thanks, Mark!
Edit: Oh, yes... I am not asking you to re-do the image to include http://www.poserclub.net/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=61]this freebie. I am merely mentioning that this freebie exists, and that ?????? is Japanese for "Download". You might want this for Aoi, after all.

Here's the image after ~2.3k samples.
I hope nobody minds that I went with a little more dynamic pose.
I'll take a look at that prop. To do my lighting effects, it may be difficult, but extra props are always a good thing.

I like it too. Something 'bout the eyes and pose just make me think that she's just landed from flying, dismissed the wings and she's just noticed that someone's pointed a camera at her.
As for Aoi....she's discovered her Elven side (or whatever pointy ear race is) and that less clothing coverage improves her armor class.

I'll, uh, be in my bunk... completely jealous of Morisato Keiichi.

As for Aoi....she's discovered her Elven side (or whatever pointy ear race is) and that less clothing coverage improves her armor class. I had aimed more for dancing (without twisting her body too much). But flying is good, though landing in a covered gazeebo (it doesn't attack) might be tricky.
If you look closely at Aoi's head, you'll see the tips of her ears poking through that mane of hair. She's not and elf (though her mother did meet one). There are enough near-human and beast-human races that she's pretty much listed as a "mongrel." She's more of a second-story thief, so light-weight gear works better for her. Her vest has materia slots to increase her DR, but the best defense is not to be attacked in the first place.

Ooh! http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=164405]Flapper Dress!
Never mind the current colour scheme. Picture this in blue, instead... and on a Steel Angel. (I'd pick Saki, but it should look good on Kurumi as well.)

Picked up the June 2011 copies of 3D World and 3D Artist today, mainly for the cover DVDs.
3D World has a whole bunch of animation resources (audio and video), eight texture packs, and http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/wiza ... ?item=9539]this.
3D Artist is the better bargain this month, for me at least. It has 30 sound effects, seven paper textures, http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/inde ... duct=38871]this (which was on my Renderosity Wish List) and its Vue counterpart, http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/inde ... duct=47887]this and its Vue counterpart, http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/inde ... duct=28048]this and its Vue and 3DS counterparts, http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/inde ... duct=30692]this and its Vue counterpart, http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/n1-i ... ?item=5020]this, and a 10% off coupon for any one vehicle available at Daz.
Overall, I think I came out ahead...

Hmmmmm... " http://www.sharecg.com/v/52466/view/11/ ... played=Yes]Nene Hair." Not BGC2032 Nene, but maybe BGC2040 Nene, if you make it blonde...? Even if that doesn't work, it's a decent short hairdo (which means I can use something other than Foxy Hair for everyone with short hair).

Wow, http://www.sharecg.com/v/52426/browse/1 ... -Mega-Dome]this is big... and it's only 50.7MB. I think I'll be able to find a use (or twelve) for this.

Oh, great - it's only after I pay good money for Victoria 4 Complete and Apartment 39 that I learn they're on the DVD included with Figures, Characters and Avatars: The Official Guide to Using DAZ Studio to Create Beautiful Art. Oh, well - the DVD also includes Michael 4 Complete, the Millennium Dragon, Carrara 6 Pro, and Hexagon 2.5, so it's still a decent buy for me. For somebody just starting in the hobby, it's a great bargain. (Apparently, the book reads like an ad, so you're buying it for the DVD.)

Anyway...
My Very First Contest Render is in the third post on http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=164988&start=960. There's a larger version of the image http://web.ncf.ca/fm536/renders/he%20th ... 20star.png.
Yes, I know Michael has a few skin-mat problems. Yes, I know the foreground and background shadows don't line up. I don't have time to fix these problems and make the contest deadline.
It's much easier to work with lights in Daz4 than it is in Daz3 (or, at least, it is for me).

Which to enter, which to enter... The Daz July beginner's challenge is "parades", the freebie challenge is "survivors", and the Platinum Club challenge is "pirates" (which includes space pirates, so I could get a Fenspace render in, but I don't have very much "pirate" stuff yet and that one's a "friendly competition" - read "not even any entry prizes"). Decisions, decisions...
If anyone else is interested in taking part, I can provide the contest URLs.

Didn't win the freebie contest. (No big surprise, considering the quality of the competition.)
On a lighter note - a much lighter note - somebody with the handle "Blurbur" has uploaded to ShareCG http://www.sharecg.com/v/52968/browse/1 ... ature-Base]the perfect accessory for those Warriors renders.

Awesome. I'd been looking for something like that! That'll help my ISTClix renders when I get around to doing them.
ETA: I sent the link to MonkeyFist, and, apparently, this item was made in response to his request for it on one of the Daz forums. That's just awesome!

If anyone else is interested in taking part, I can provide the contest URLs. Oh! And there's the other Beginners' Contest - " http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?p=2981624]Cigarette Cards". I think I still qualify as a beginner, and the prizes for this one are DAZ vouchers.
So, if I have time and ideas, it's that Beginner's Contest and the Freebie challenge this month. (Hmmmmm... "survivors"... and I need at least eight free items. Now to find a free tombstone, a cane, and a cast for V4. Galadriel will do for the dress, and a black texture for it will serve as a second freebie. She'll need shoes, too. That leaves at least two more freebies... one of which can be the terrain/backdrop. The other... the usual cheat of adding jewelry isn't really appropriate here... a hat, maybe? Edit: D'oh! Free hair and a face morph - nothing says I can't have more than eight freebies, and she needs to look not like Victoria. Re-Edit: found a http://www.sharecg.com/v/28521/browse/1 ... ctoria-4.2]face, a http://www.yanelis3d.net/store/index.ph ... oductId=28]hairdo, a http://www.most-digital-creations.com/f ... ops_24.htm]cast, the http://www.sharecg.com/v/43806/related/ ... eFreak4-S4]dress and http://www.sharecg.com/v/44591/View/11/ ... riel-Dress]a black texture for it, a http://www.sharecg.com/v/32994/Poser/Se ... or-Vicki-4]pair of shoes, a http://www.most-digital-creations.com/f ... ops_16.htm]cane, a couple of http://poserplus.8m.net/]headstones, a http://www.sharecg.com/v/34419/Poser/Fr ... ldron-Arts]tree, and a http://www.sharecg.com/v/52755/browse/1 ... ma-texture]grassy hill. Or not. The face and hair refused to load, for whatever reason - not a problem; http://www.sharecg.com/v/45419/browse/1 ... ace-for-V4]different face, http://mint3d.pp.fi/downloads/DLHair.htm]different hair. Those are not a problem.
But the grassy hill loads with a black foreground instead of a green one, and no amount of playing with the lighting fixes the problem ( http://web.ncf.ca/fm536/renders/apology.png]like so - this one has just a diffuse light directly over the zero-point on the grid)... This is a problem. And it's time for me to go to bed; I'm tired. Anyone have any ideas what I'm missing? (Alternately, I can pretend a cloud is obscuring the sun in this area, but then the gravestones need to be darkened, and I don't really want to do that...)
Edit: Fixed the lazy way - by changing the prop altogether. This image is now done, and about to be submitted to the contest.
Re-Edit: It appears to be popular... so much so that one of the contest regulars did something similar and credited me with the inspiration.
Edit again: http://sites.google.com/site/dazfreebie ... s/july2011]The competition - there are 12 entries in the first 12 days, which is about half as many as last month. I think some people are giving the "survivor" meme a bit of a twist... and there's nothing wrong with that.

Okay, that post's getting pretty heavily edited. Time for a new one.
I now have an idea for the Beginners' Contest (cigarette card, category "Warriors"), which I am blatantly stealing from a WWI Royal Canadian Army recruiting poster that's on display at the museum at CFB Kingston. The poster had a background of a knight on horseback and a foreground of a soldier on motorcycle, with an romantic recruiting slogan across the bottom. (I must get the photo of the poster off my camera sometime soon.)
So... use M4 for knight and soldier, I've got a horse (not the Millennium Horse, but they aren't asking for sources for the models), and I have a chainmail texture for Galadriel for M4. Now to find a Great-War-era motorcycle and army uniform, and a hill for both of them to ride up... Any suggestions where to look? (I have a $5 birthday voucher from Content Paradise that I haven't spent yet.)
Edit: Oh - I need a lance, too. (I didn't see one in http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=12152]this week's polearms freebie.)
