Crossovers that Should not be: Welcome to the next level.

Valles Wrote:So, you're not saying, "You people want to write yourselves as girls because overcoming the horror of that inherent female weakness makes you stronger and more manly men in the end!" but "You people are all actually into elaborate deconstructions of comparative sociological gender roles!"

Personally, the appeal for me boils down to seeing life from the other side of the fence. Being female is not weak (a point I think we can agree on), but it is most definitely Different. Different on a level that most people never have to confront. It's not about coming out of the experience as 'more manly men' but 'better people in general' who are able to deal with life. Being able to empathize more effectively with half of the population (that I sometimes just don't understand) is part of this.

I recognize that some of my ideas are a little skewed (and this may be one of them) but being gender-swapped forces one to address life from a different viewpoint (how large or small this difference is depends on the person). And that kind of perspective shifting is a good thing. It shakes up assumptions that we didn't know we had, and it forces us to grow as people.

Then again, this my just be twisted take on the topic.

That is so much BS its not even funny. sweno has more of the right idea. The reason is largely about a change of perspective... Ranma 1/2 was technically
aimed at 14 year old Japanese girls, so it basically does have that second ramble of yours as a major plot line. The fanfiction and webcomic people use it
largely as an easy from of forced perspective change... that and its funny and can be a large source of fanservice. Its also more accessible than say turning
an insert into a random character's goldfish and having them try to solve everyone's problems. Which would be a spamfic deconstruction... or a botched
wish.

Now for the sake of keeping in topic and picking on Epsilon.. I'll suggest a crossover that should not be.... take the soccer team from the webcomic
'Venus Envy' and have the portalled into a Nippon Icchi style Nether World.... Then watch the main character freak when said main character gets
exactly what they want from the Dark senate and is still rather unhappy.

Guys. Off-topic in this thread. Spawn a new one -- and from the way the language is starting to escalate, maybe it ought to be in Politics.

Do it, or I lock the thread.

I don't think Dr. Demento's ever tried to take over the world...

After defeating the large hoard of of robots, some of which even looked like who ever assembled them understood what they were doing and long after the
hoard of hideous mutated things have been disposed of Ranma followed his father into the room at the end of the hall. Today his father had promised to
introduce him to the one that raised him. The one that taught him honor and taught him to interact with others. The one that taught him logic and also the
one that Genma had apparently invented the dreaded 'Crouch of the Wild Tiger' to deal with.

Apparently, his old man had left home early in life after meeting up with the old freak in the nearby town. 'The' mind you, therre wasn't
anywhere else in a week or three's walk apparently. In fact, the old freak had manage to find that town only after inventing a varient for dimensional
travel invented as a quick escape after some miko had managed to detect him why peeping out of phase with reality.

It'd taken 3 months to get the old freak to agree to teach him the move, his father was apparently a bit homesick and it seemed like a good chance to
expand his technique base. It had taken him two weeks to learn it and another 3 to learn to aim and find his father's homeland. Always knew his old man
was from somewhere with out of this world logic, nice to be confirmed right. They'd arrived in the town after an hour's walk and after spending the
night in said town, weird place and paranoid to boot what was with all the twins and thripletts, they'd met his father's two remaining brothers and
walked into the main town after a few hours hiking.

Once there Ranma was treated to some confusing, illogical bantering with the gate guards and been led to an arena for testing or something. That'd been
fun. Then he'd been given a lot of forms which after the first three, badly written and illogical forms given to him by a staff of office workers who
acted like they'd never had to actually deal with a real live tourist before, he'd just started filling in 'How should I know?', 'I should
know this why?', 'I don't know what this question even means... does the guy who wrote this even know what it means?', and 'I
don't'know green?'. Then handed in the forms of frustratation... it didn't help that the forms were also in English, he silently thanked his
English teacher, chibi energy vampire that she was, for actually making the class intresting enough to pay attention on occasion.

It'd taken 4 more hours to process his forms... which apparently involved lots of changing of staff, the staff changing the their close to one's of
different colors, dozens and dozens of calls over the PA system about so and so needs to report to somekind of booth and to have a Nice day, and people
rambling on about communsists. THe high light of this was when some guys in red and/or black outfits had shot a drink machine to death with ray guns, some
about routine maintanence, and he'd amused himself with attempting to replicate the beams. The red ones were easy... but the black ones were really hard
and the best he could get was a darkish purplely grey. As far as he could tell these beams didn't actually damage anything... but they made him less
bored. Amusingly both his ability to make colored beams of light and how he'd changed when the drink machine had hose him down with various heated and
cooled liquids was blaimed on the drink machine... which he smiled and agreed with rather than explain things.

So, when he finally got the results of whatever it was those forms actually tested the guy who'd originally been at the counter and came up to his, in a
snazzy white suit for some reason, and given him a tourist ID on a white card with a neat picture that changed between pictures of his forms when tilted, and a
new white outfit with a yellow stripe to wear. He still didn't know what was going on.

After reading the card and asking what 'Ultra Viloet' clearance was, the response was something about that informormation being beyond his pay
grade... which the oddly interactive PA system agreed with him on. Shaking this off as an oddity of the place, he gone out and met his extremely impressed
father and uncles. Apparently his 'clearance level' ment they could eat at the really good restraunts.

(Necratoid what's that a crossover of? (Beyond Ultraviolet?) (googling brought up other stuff))

crossover that should be or should not you decide:

SI into Dr. Doom. (or insertion of some other good aligned non-powered character into dr. doom, such as xander, dr House or some other char)

Having the intelligence without the memories will be a powerdown against the original dr.doom so whether he keeps the original memories, fragments of them or
almost nothing at all is of course a question. Conflict with doom bots (mechanical dr doom clones) are a given, since they either could figure out its not the
original doom or have just gone renegade. The possible missing knowledge could be acquired by the normal learning process (diaries, notes and other books ) or
a doombots attempts to exorcise or overwrite the dr. doom body with its own personality and memories (which could cause the original chars memories to become
fragmented and partially missing.) Furthermore there is the possibility that an underling or more will try to take power or just betray dr Doom. (The people
who would try it with the original dr doom and the new dr doom.)

(The 'powers' of dr Doom can also be just technological, sorcery-tech combo or technology with movie verse powers. )

Dr Doom also looks to me as someone who has Anger management issues, so those could be something that the char need to deal with.

Besides of course the horrible disfigurement.

Furthermore, the normal hero chars are not gona simply accept that dr Doom has gone good, they could be looking for something underneath it all. Add in stuff
such as miscommunication, anger issues, other criminal or evil persons taking advantage of the situation. One could even have a originally heroic character
become obsessed with finding out what doom's big plan is, suffer some personal loses and go 'bad'.

I'm sorry, citizen, you do not have a high enough clearance to ask that question.

It's Paranoia, "the role-playing game of a darkly humorous future." Or, as the back cover of my copy of the rules says, "Imagine a
world designed by Kafka, Stalin, Orwell, Huxley, Sartre and the Marx Brothers....

A well-meaning but deranged computer desperately protects the citizens of an underground warren from all sorts of real and imagined enemies....

A lighthearted game of terror, death, bureaucracies, mad scientists, mutants, dangerous weapons, and insane robots, which encourages players to lie to, cheat,
and backstab each other at every turn.

Is that fun?

Quote: Ranma Saotome in 'Beyond Ultraviloet'

Read that last word carefully... It was a typo and the computer just agreed with the guy when he said it, because the previous department head hacked that
function in as a macro. The counter guy is the department head now and hasn't had a chance to actually learn what his job is beyond the push paper (which
up to this point has involved changing the forms that Ranma filled out on the whims of people who previous to an hour ago he didn't have clearance to know
what these forms did... neither did the proof reader for that matter... the editors didn't have high enough color access to know what some of the words on
the forms even ment) and maybe theoretically hand out a card to any of these tourist things he hasn't had a chance to actually read the definition of.
Which he'll figure out about a hour or twelve later... go 'oh, so that is what we do here' and promptly go back to exploring what his new access
can get him. Sure he'll do his job should another comeby... but he has to hire more personal as it is and considering how long the last (first) one took
to come in he figures he has time.

The last guy hacked the computer and made the knowledge of what a tourist actually was Indigo access... after all Ranma is literally the first tourist the
Alpha complex has ever seen... so no one ever challenged him on it and only someone that already has his access level would be able to check anyway. They knew
even less about what they were doing that usual at the utterly untested Tourist beuro... I mean no one in processing even understands what the word
'tourist' means let alone has clearance for that information. This department has a bunch of guys at the top of the system, cushy jobs all around for
the ranking members... and they just got culled.

So now Ranma is wandering around with a title practically no one has clearance to understand (he isn't a citizen, he or she is tourist) with a clearance
level labeled as 'Ultra Viloet' which no one has ever heard of and at least 97% of the population can't legally ask for information on... Yes, its
a typo. But as Ranma is a 'tourist' and almost no one can ask for information on that so even though they can pretty much universally ask to confirm
Ranma's access level they won't... figuring its related to the 'tourist' title.

The actual story title isn't about Ranma having a greater access level than Ultra Violet.... its about Ranma having a typoed ID and everyone thinking he
has some special access rank that doesn't exist in the first place and everyone assumes exists based on not wanting to risk a clone to find out in the
first place. Its not like virtually anyone has access to know everything Ultra Violet access gets/gets to dothat doesn't already have it in the first
place... and if someone does actually ask, the computer with just read the typo out loud as canon, promptly explaining they don't have access to. Either
that section of the Computer believes it true or isn't talking to the Tourist section or just defaulting the answer to a question it doesn't know the
answer to.

To reiterate it doesn't give Ranma any extra right

I see so many unintentional typos that I couldn't even conceive of that one being put there purposefully. Wow.

I just assumed the white outfit meant that he had UV clearance, and that there was somebody there with UV clearance, so clearance wasn't an issue.
I'll have to read more carefully from now on.

It's over the hero's have lost, the final battle is about to begin but the fate of the planet is already sealed. all that remains is to see who will
succeed in the epic battle to come, the Book of Darkness or Illrya the Shaper of Things.

Man I would want to see that battle, preferably from a safe distance, and yet one at which the battle is still visible. but in a fight between two ancient
things that each have the power to wreak a planet it's distressingly likely that the planet will become collateral damage.

Annother one that should not be.

The Inquisitor aimed his bolt pistol at the odd blue haired man, when he disdainfully asked, "Who the hell do you think I am?"

He didn't know why, but he felt compelled to answer, "Worthless scum that turned to heresy instead of the god emperor of mankind."

"Wrong! I am Kamina of the Great Gurren Brigade!"

Now think about peristalsis, and then consider this:

Quote: Harry felt Dumbledore's arm twist away from him and redoubled his grip; the next thing he knew, everything went black; he was being pressed very hard
from all directions; he could not breathe, there were iron bands tightening around his chest; his eyeballs were being forced back into his head; his eardrums
were being pushed deeper into his skull and then -

He gulped great lungfulls of cold night air and opened his streaming eyes. He felt as though he had just been forced through a very tight rubber tube. It was
a few seconds before he realized that Privet Drive had vanished. He and Dumbledore were now standing in what appeared to be a deserted village square, in the
center of which stood an old war memorial and a few benches. His comprehension catching up with his senses, Harry realized that he had just Apparated for the
first time in his life.

"Are you all right?" asked Dumbledore, looking down at him solicitously. "The sensation does take some getting used to."

Which naturally gets abbreviated MMSM. Which makes me think of another MM title...
