Nice xkcd reference, there.
Fits quite well. My Unitarian Jihad Name is: Brother Atom Bomb of Courteous Debate. Get yours. I've been writing a bit.
Now, running concurrently with this is Shinji Ikari vs. the World, A ND New Game +. What's happening there is that Shinji finds himself at the beginning of the story again, having been sent back, ala Quantum Leap, from the fight against Tamiel. Problem is, the other people he was with when Instrumentality hit are not there, as they've all been sent into different timelines.
The 12 year old Ichi is now in the canon verse, having taken Yui's place inside their Unit-01 as it's being sent out against Sachiel. And Mari is now in a stripped down Unit-05 in another timeline, in this place called Bethany Island.
Ah. Sounds like fun. *grins ree-ishly* Link please?
“Due to special
emergency circumstances, all lines are currently out of service. Thank you.” Blinking, Shinji Ikari drops the phone, letting it hang, bouncing, off of the line and the phone booth itself. He stares at it for a moment, as if the receiver would hold the answer to the questions he had. As if the receiver would explain to him where he is. Looking around, spinning, there are a few things he notices. First, that the 'city' has no high buildings. Everything is flat, quaint. There are no buildings higher than the three and four story apartment buildings, and no people. But that isn't the problem. The problem is he knows everyone is in the shelters. He knows that the other buildings are retracted, waiting for the signal to rise again. He knows that, he knows the layout of the city, where where he is, and he also knows how he knows that. “Crap,” he whispers, “Mirror. Mirror mirror mirror-” He runs back over to the phone booth, looking into the reflective surface. “Black hair,” he says, looking at his hand, “And I'm not pale. Holy crap, I'm not a Nephilim, am I-” Wait. Wait wait wait. This is both good and bad. Good, in that he's now human again. Probably. But it's also bad. It's also bad because he remembers the last time he was using a phone booth, and wearing the sweatshirt and jeans he's wearing right now. Digging into his pocket, he takes out a note. A note with an address, many blacked out lines, and a single word. 'Come.' “Oh, shit.” The explosion rips through a building several blocks down. The VTOL craft flies past, backwards, overhead, rippling out a swarm of missiles at the unseen target. A lance of pink spears it, igniting fuel and consuming it in an explosion. “Oh, shit!” And the entire apartment block collapses as the foot smashes into it, the lime green giant leaning forward. It is massive, sixty meters tall. Its head is a limp on its shoulders, the massive bone bird face encompassing its eyes. Its form is a sick parody of the human body, and as it turns from the latest kill it spots him, turns to him, sees him. “Oh, Shit!” - - Shinji Ikari vs. the World. Nobody Dies, New Game+ - - In normal circumstances, when faced down with a 60 meter tall creature that, for a hobby, violates fleets with pink phallic laser hand like a...well, complete failure of a metaphor, Shinji would then use his nephilim phisiology to run at seventy miles per hour down the street and away from the danger zone. Instead, he's currently human again. Which is a problem, as that sense of relief does not save him from Sachiel. However, if he remembers correctly, something else will. “REI!” he screams/shrieks, “HELP!!!” The hand of the Angel stops, reflecting off on an orange, octagonal wall. Which then ripples, pulses, and pushes the Angel away, making it stumble back as it considers what the Hell just happened. “Heee~ey.” Shinji turns. Standing behind him where a pale nephilim girl was not standing before is now a pale nephilim girl. He sees no ductwork. He also knows that Lilly was not alive back then, so his only conclusion is that somehow, Rei can teleport. He does not know if this comforts him. “How do you know my naa~ame?” Rei asks, her smile a thin line on her face. So, Shinji thinks, How do I bullshit my way out of this? What sort of elaborate lie do I tell Rei to maintain...wait, no. This is Rei. “I know you're my half sister created by Naoko Akagi to kill me and my Mom,” he says, grabbing Rei by the shoulders, “You have seven sisters in the Sheol section of NERV-1, you're half created with Lilith and you have super powers that let you beat up Angels on foot. I know all of this because I travelled through time.” Rei clasps her hands together, emitting a squealing, squeaking sound at the utter insanity of Shinji's statement that could best be described as a Reegasm. Which is around when Sachiel decides to do something about it, stumbling forward at them. “Right!” Rei says, “Gotta go!” Grabbing Shinji by the arm, she takes off, running at a brisk pace of forty miles per hour down the street, the Angel stumbling after them in pursuit. “So!” Rei yells, “Where's your Time Machine?” “It's Ichi!” Shinji yells back, not nearly as frightened by this situation than he was those months ago when it first happened to him, but that's the effect of, say, doing this regularly, “Ichi's my time machine! But I'm not sure if she still is, or if I'm the only one who went back!” “So, you know that Ichi's-” “My baby sister that was absorbed into Unit-01? Yes!” “Maaa~an I wanted to break that to you...” “Trust me! I've had an interesting few months!” A universe away, and Shinji Ikari can only watch in mute horror as the entry plug fills with the fluid, smelling like blood, the copper stench filling his nostrils as he tries, in vain, to hold his breath against the oncoming tide of sloshing, heavy liquid. It fills up, past his chest, past his chin, past his nose, as he finally gives in and inhales. Like they said, it is breathable. Like they didn't say, it feels...tastes...everything...horrible. “Oh, you big baby. Suck it up and deal.” His eyes snap open. The 14 year old boy, clad in his school uniform, the odd...alien...attachments on his head flickering on, turns. The voice did not come from behind him, but all around him, everywhere... “Um...hello?” “Sh. I'm going through your memories...yep, this is the sucky timeline. Mom's dead, Dad's a dick, you went to live with one of the teachers Mom schooled with and he was a distant dickish dick who was a big old dick. Great. I'll have to work on you while I'm here.” The form materializes, forming almost out of the light reflected in the LCL, but visible only to him. The girl, all of twelve years old, in a green and white girls school uniform, her black hair tied back into pig tails and a wide smile on her face, bends down and meets her blue eyes with his own. “So! I'm Ichi Ikari, your baby sister turned teen sister shunted into here from another timeline. A pleasure to meet you!” “EVA LAUNCH!”
oh yes... Yes-yes-yessy-yus.
I love Rei's reaction, and I can only imagine the reactions of Gendo and Yui, aside from the "TELL ME EVERYTHING!" reflex. And I am going to seriously enjoy seeing what you have Ichi do with Canon!Shinji. (It actually runs close to an idea that I had involving a couple of characters from Fenspace and the dimensional door from Scott Pilgrim.)
Oh, yeah. Do want. Thanks for posting that, Gregg.
-- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak.
“Ikari-kun.”
Midway through the five minutes he spent scratching at the door, Shinji realized that Lilith was not moving. In fact, in the darkness, illuminated by her glowing red eyes, he could see that she tied to a large diagnostic bed, propped upward, her hands and arms restrained in a fashion similar to how her larger body once was on its cross. “Come closer.” He turns to her, the restrained jouten of the progenitor. “Yeah,” he says, “Uh...no.” The white skinned, obviously naked 14 year old girl pulls at the restraints, the wires and monitoring devices covering up the obvious nudity. She frowns, an odd expression on her usually placid face. “Come closer. You have questions. I possess answers.” “Does your answering those questions involve you turning me into orange drink?” “...that is not untrue.” “Then again, no.” Lilith frowns, again. This should be much easier than this. At least, that is what Shinji thinks that she thinks, looking at the confused, maybe frustrated expression on her face. But he has trouble knowing the mind of the ancestor of all life, and direct ancestor of the Ree. “Okay,” he says, “I do have some questions.” “Speak, Ikari-kun.” “...I had a vision, a sort of...I guess dream during the last Angel,” he says, “Do you know anything about that?” “I am but a part of the greater whole. I am an aspect, not the entirety of Lilith. But I, too, saw. It was a memory. Another step in a cycle.” “I saw...Angels. Not just the type we fight, but...can you make Angels, too?” Lilith turns to Shinji. A small smile crosses her face. “Of course I can.” He nods. Tapping his foot, he considers his next question. “Are the Ree your Angels?”
....ohhhhh shit, that's gonna be a small bombshell. :lol
Though it does reinforce the fridge horror of the dream sequence Ree-lings tearing apart ADAM and his Angels if you picture them resembling Rei in any way. --- "Oh, silver blade, forged in the depths of the beyond. Heed my summons and purge those who stand in my way. Lay waste." OpMegs Wrote:....ohhhhh shit, that's gonna be a small bombshell. :lolOr if the things that were tearing them apart are the Ree's true forms.
I wonder, do the Ree know about this?
Also, in the unlikely event that you weren't already aware, Thrythlind wrote an omake involving a number of characters from his fic Divine Blood, including Lusca, the Demoness of Crushing (things with tentacles), ending up in the ND 'verse. Among other events that occur, Lusca mentions a word to the Ree that is probably on Yui's list of words not to even think where the Ree could possibly be nearby. The omake can be found here: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6906181/1/C ... ke_Theater (Post #998) ----- Stand between the Silver Crystal and the Golden Sea. Fingers
tap on the touch display. It is a new install in his office, a bluetooth device which emits a laser pattern on the flat surface, saving space so he doesn't need an actual keyboard. He's still figuring out how to use it. Asuka sat him down and programmed it to be ergonomic, and easier on his wrists. He'll have to ask her how to program his DVR, later. The desk chimes. Right, he thinks. He had that installed, to, on his insistence. Reaching under his desk, he stares and finds the flashing red button, tapping it. The desk rumbles, and a projector folds out from the ceiling of his office, projecting a holographic map of Tokyo-3 in the center of his office. A blinking red light on a building, and he pushes off from his desk, sliding his leather chair back and rising. Walking to the hologram, he takes his glasses out of his pocket and slides them on, staring at the map. “Damn it. That's my bank.” Muttering german, Pieter Sohryu pulls the bluetooth headset out of his pocket and slides it on. “Girls, this is Mission Control,” he says, “There's a bank robbery at the Tokyo-3 First Local Bank. You're on call.” - - Chapter 2: Covered in Bees - - “They've infected you. They work by vectors, apparently, and are able to turn you to them via inhalation, as I'm quite sure they've never spent time along with you.” Cocking an eyebrow, Pieter looks up from his monitor screen and the financial reports he is assuming he is going to sign off on as Kyoko Sohryu enters his office as is her wont to do so- completely uninvited and almost propelled by her sarcasm and snark. “Ah, yes,” he sighs, “So, first it was Akagi, then it was Naok00. I think Shinji thinks my idea is inane, to, but he's easily intimidated by authority that didn't birth him.” Kyoko purses her lips, folding her arms. Her gaze, usually a source of intimidation with others, mainly serves as a source of arousal with him. Mostly because, unlike other people she works with, he regularly has sex with her. “Okay,” he says, putting his feet up on his desk, interrupting the light beam from the bluetooth keyboard and sending gibberish flowing over his screen, “Let me explain. I'm mission control for the Ree when they go out and fight crime. I talked it over with Yui, and it makes sense for someone to you know, herd them.” “That works with, maybe, with cattle. This is seven super-intelligent, super-powered teenage girls-” “Eight. Mari's joining up with them.” She goes silent. Her eyebrow twitches. “Okay,” he says, hands up, looking at his screen and sighing as he puts his feet down, “You have a point. But that's exactly why I'm doing what I'm doing. As much as we want the girls to be normal, we'd also want to win the lottery every week or for there to be world peace. That's not going to happen, and the Ree aren't going to be normal.” Kyoko sighs, leaning against the doorway. “Right. So...why...this?” “Because that's the approach I did with Mari,” he says, shrugging, “Mari wouldn't do what I want just because I said 'no.' She was smart, determined, and stubborn. I got her to do what I wanted by making what I wanted her to do seem like the fun option.” “By having them go out and fight crime.” He kicks back the chair, spinning it before standing. “So street crime goes down,” he says, “I feed them information, get them to go after low risk crimes that can't possibly hurt them. I don't let them run wild or go after Angels. The girls could dismantle a tank with their bare hands. Mari can punch through five armor layers with a full powered blast. This is childs play for them, and it gives them something productive to do.” He shrugs. “What's the worst that can happen?” The smoke wafts up, only lightly hinting at the fire. Normally, in this situation, the alarms throughout Tokyo-3 would be blaring, and the city would be in full panic mode. However, in this case, it is not to be so. In fact, the sensors set up throughout the city are picking up the disturbance and do register the presence, but in fact do not trip- after all, the sheer power they are picking up is impossible, and hence the AI behind them assumes it is a glitch. At the center of the bank, lying inside the vault, the one whom appeared, whose presence set off the alarms in the first place before causing to reset out of sheer impossibility, stirs. This one is a girl of around thirteen, long auburn and red hair falling past her shoulders, dressed in a button shirt, blue blazer, and knee length blue skirt. One shoe is missing- possibly a result of whatever sent her this way. One hand, her right hand, holds a long rod made of red crystal, a yellow ribbon tied around it, her fingers tightening as she opens blue eyes and shakes her head, sitting up with a moan. “Ow,” she mutters, “Ow ow ow! That shouldn't've happened...” She looks to her side, a relieved smile on her face. Sitting on the floor, surrounded by tossed lock boxes from the force of their entry, the air around him a haze of light and ionized particles, a cat stares back. But it is not an ordinary cat. Rather, it is a cat of light, a silhouette of a medium sized housecat, with two black spots for its eyes and a black spot at the center of its chest. “Good, I thought I lost you,” she says, climbing to her feet with a groan, “C'mon, we need to find out where we are. We could've been thrown anywhere.” MEOW. “I know, I know,” the girl says, extending her arm, the Kitty of Light jumping on and climbing up to her shoulder, “Intelligence first! Food later...I'm starting to sound like Yomi, aren't I?” The Kitty starts, and looks up, through the hole in the ceiling that they descended through earlier, where they made their entrance. The alarms are blaring, the motion sensors inside the solid steel vault registering their presence. “Uh oh,” she says, “This isn't good.” The Kitty hisses. Clad in a pink and green plugsuit, an aura around her faintly resembling a blue octahedron, Mari descends into the hole. “Well, that's new,” Mari says, adjusting her glasses as the vents in the room begin popping open, “Dad, we found the source of the alarm. It's a big freakin' hole in the roof and a teenager with a weird looking cat. And...oh dear that cat looks very familiar...” The girl tilts her head, staring at Mari. And her eyes go wide when one of the ducts opens and Kiko, in a pink and white plugsuit, A-10 connectors extended like cat ears, drops down. “Aunt Kiko!” the girls squeals. Which is when the Cat began to hiss. “So, okay,” Pieter says, “The Ree found a teenager had dropped from the sky, crashed through the roof of the bank, and is somehow not showing up as an Angel. Is that right?” “It is,” Yui responds, sitting at her desk and tapping her pencil as Pieter paces in front of her, “MAGI confirms, Junior confirms. Although the cat she has is weird, and it didn't react...well...to the attempts at separation. We have them both in the secure infirmary, and Section 2 is keeping an eye on them. I have Lilly also watching, and ready to port in the Ree at a moment's notice.” Pieter nods. “Great. Any idea of who she is or where she comes from?” “I got a cheek swab before we took her to the infirmary,” Yui responds, tapping on her computer, “We should get the results shortly.” The Kitty of Light has curled into a ball at the foot of the infirmary bed as the girl goes through her satchel. Her face lights up as she pulls out the book, with the emblazoned red fig leaf and the words ALTERNATE UNIVERSE GUIDE stenciled on the front, and the words DON'T PANIC on the back. “So you're in an alternate universe,” she reads to herself, the Kitty of Light perking an ear up, “Let's see...um...step 1, ask yourself these important questions to figure out what type of universe you are in. Question 1. “Is Gendo a dick?” She bites her lip, thinking for a moment. “No. Question 2. Is Yui alive? Yes.” She turns the page. An eldritch horror, resembling a mass of tentacles for a face and bat wings emergent from its back, straddling a mountain appears. “Question 3. Is there Cthulhu? Hm...I don't know. What if there is? Okay...page 32...” She flips the page over, wincing at the picture of the assembled horrors on the capital steps, writing a constitution in blood. “Warning. If Cthulhu is present, this is a bad universe,” she reads, “Do not contact NERV. Do not approach Rei. Okay...I don't think there is, but I don't know. What's the fourth question?” She flips back. “Question 4. Is Kiko the Godhead? Um...how do I know...oh, page 16.” She flips the page. On either side of the open book is two images. On the left, there is a picture of a Ree, waving to the camera, dressed in pink and with cat ears. The caption reads 'Kiko.' On the other side is the same Ree, but dressed in pink leather and a high colored cape, holding the severed head of an enemy, flailing tentacles behind her. It reads “Kikoseid.' Below the two pictures is the additional line, 'KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.' “Okay,” she says, “I think we're in a good universe.” GreggHL Wrote:The Kitty of Light has curled into a ball at the foot of the...You've been reading Eyrie Productions, Unlimited, haven't you?
The world coalesces. He sees
the frothing yellow streams, the sun high in the sky like a red, unblinking eye. He's reasonably sure the world has never looked like this. Hiding lakes of LCL or a sun that resembles Lilith's eye would be beyond even his mother's ability to cover up. Then he blinks, and the world is normal. He stands on a bridge over a blue stream. To his right, there is a town, a small little city dominated by the white capped mountain in the distance. It reminds of Tokyo-3. But, then again, he remembers that the city he's called home lately was built over a smaller town. Hakone, right? He sees the hotels, the onsens in the distance, scratching his head as he sees the larger city in the further distance. He guesses that may be Tokyo itself, the original city before it was destroyed following Second Impact. Which is when he wonders why he's coming to these conclusions. He's never had the head for science the rest of his family does, but he does tend to go with gut instinct. His gut is telling him that he last remembers Lilith smiling. Lilith smiling is a bad thing. So he's guessing he got absorbed by her, but for a reason. He turns, to get a view of the rest of the area. What strikes him is the fact that he's standing in the middle of a road. What also strikes him is a white sedan, which does literally strike him, pitching him forward against the hood to see his pale, blue haired reflection in the windshield before he bounces off the front bumper and is tossed to the pavement. Groaning, thankful that he is still not entirely human- or he might have been killed. Again- Shinji Ikari manages to keep his eyes open as the doors open and two people frantically run over. “Is he alright?” a voice which is familiar but still somewhat alien to him says, looking up to see a woman in her middle ages bent over him, black, straight hair framing her face, familiar blue eyes staring at him. Then another face, which looks very much like Rei's, a teenage girl who's face is frantic looking over him. “I think so, Mom,” the girl says, “Oh crap. Oh crap. This isn't good!” “Hitting someone with a car usually isn't, but let's get him home so your father can take a look at him. Then we'll call a hospital.” He elicits a groan in agreement. “Well, at least he's awake,” the woman says, “Can you hear me? What's your name?” “Shinji,” he groans. “Shinji, my name is Misao Ikari. We're going to get you some help.” She turns, to the girl. Her daughter. “Yui, help me get him in the car.” Yep, Shinji thinks, that confirms it. Lilith has apparently sent him back in time. - - Chapter 94: Stick It In

would be a misleading statement. Instead, think of it as a void- the colorless landscape only because there is not powerful light source. Well, save for the one she finds when she appears, the mass of white and red, drifting in the ether in perpetual dream-state. The Giant of Light, white mixed with red and black, does notice her as she drifts past Him, but does not react. Only a single, half lidded black spot upon the face before Lilly drifts past, trilling. When she went to visit Mari, upon Pieter's request, she found herself detoured. Instead, she finds herself here, in the ether, in the world between universes, floating past the being she realizes is her grandfather. Unfortunately, he does not seem to be the type to lavish attention on his progeny like the rest of her friends do. Ah. There you are. O.o? It starts as an outline, blossoming into a shape like a flower, then a tree. “Unit-02 and Unit-05 report as
ready for sortie!” Maya announces, as the lights chime on next to the Big Screen, rotating out into diagnostic charts for Zwei and Go-kun, “Reego reported in PROBE mainframes! Cherubim on approach to Tokyo-3...reading smaller Pattern Blues disengaging!” “So we only have two Evas,” Pieter growls, rubbing his chin, standing behind the bridge bunnies as Ikari's station rises up behind them, “Can we unfreeze the Mark-01?” “Unfortunately, no,” Gendo announces, “Not in time to combat the Cherubim, and we still haven't found the Third Child. What is the condition of Unit-00?” Maya pauses, punches in commands on her station, and a third screen pops up to show Unit-00, with the red x over its head. “Still being fixed,” she says, “Armor and dermal regeneration for the head. Section 1 is heading to the infirmary to check on Mari.” “And what about Unit-07?” Pieter asks, “Can we deploy Mana as is in it...” “Dr. Akagi's heading to the infirmary to run a remote synch test to check on Mana,” Makoto reports, “Unit-07 is reported as prepped and awaiting pilot-” “And pilot is present. I've contacted Akagi and she has agreed to cede the Unit-07 to me for this sortie.” A new screen flips open, showing a familiar, absent figure for the past few days, clad in a dark red, green piped and highlighted plugsuit. As Maya's jaw drops and Gendo pushes his glasses up his nose, Pieter stares at the floating image of the woman he loves, and is in that moment convinced of one, true thing. She is completely insane. “Kyoko,” he says, “What are you doing in the entry plug?” “Well, as it is, I was planning to fight the Angel. I designed Unit-07's AI, so I should be able to synchronize with it to a degree enough to provide covering fire for Zwei and Unit-05.” “But-” “We can argue all day, or we can deploy Unit-07. Kirishima is in no condition to pilot, Ikari is MIA, and the more Evangelions we deploy against the Cherubim, the better our odds. If you argue that I need more bedrest for a minor incident, I will cut open my own head to show you my brain is undamaged. Ibuki, what's my synchronization score?” Maya pauses, turns from the Big Screen, and taps up a command. “Synch holding...at 17%.” On the screen, Kyoko's face drops. Pieter sighs, hands on his hips, shaking his head. “Kyoko, for crying out loud-” “Pieter. It's me or the Ree.” Central Dogma goes silent. Nana's rampage in Go-kun comes into fresh focus. “F___ it,” Pieter growls, “Evas launch!”
Blue eyes light up. Sitting up, the twelve year old girl looks
around, then stretches both arms above her and yawns. Her hair is a dark chocolate brown, her face the same angles and curves. The curiosity on her face, while he knows it is mechanical and responding to commands given to it from her Core, is a mirror. It is a mirror to the girl he met those years ago, and even if they do not see each other like they did those years ago he cannot help but marvel at the creation in front of him. She notices the stone walls, the open window giving her a view of the mountainous peaks surrounding Hassenstadt, the capital of the small country he rules through the elected Parliament as Prime Minister. Technically, he rules more, but always keeps in mind the importance of delegation. Sipping the chilled white tea from the goblet- the only one the kitchen staff had ready, the coffee mugs he usually uses were all cracked when the dishwasher broke- he watches as the girl, in reality a complex and advanced android, gets out of the plush seat and strides across the royal purple carpet to look out the window. Very curious. Just like her 'mother.' “Ahem.” She turns, spinning on her sneakered heel. “Good afternoon, Miss Ikari,” he says, holding the goblet in one hand, his other hand behind him as he stretches out the soreness from the trip, “I welcome you to Latveria. I am your host, Victor Von-” “Doom?” “-Gibels,” he says, and sighs, once more, at the assumption that he is a supervillain, “My apologies. But the arrangements made with your mother are brief. We have a small window of time to accomplish what must be done.” And in Cage 03, a set of red eyes peak out of the ductwork as the Core is shifted into place in the bakelite locked Mark-01. So, Siyon thinks, that's what happened. Ichi has been kidnapped. The blank Core was put there so noone would know, especially them. Programming put in years ago takes over. Red eyes glow faintly.
