Huh. Given that Princesses rule Equestria, Pinkie would make a train wreck out of the whole Prince/Princess/Witch roles simply by her very presence.. However, given the fairy-tale atmosphere of the Utena universe her knack for ignoring physics would go utterly unremarked upon. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if people started copying her.

Ah, but the Equestrian use of "Princess" is a synonym for "Queen": to borrow the Narnian terms, they are High Queen Celestia and Queen Luna. (My impression of) the SKU definition of "prince" is something along the lines of "knight errant exemplary", a righter of wrongs and rescuer of imperilled individuals. Celestia and Luna can't go gallivanting about like that; they have a country to run and a sky to manage.
Of course, my primary exposure to SKU is from Undocumented Features, where it's blended quite seamlessly with Cephiro (the setting of Magic Knights Rayearth). But didn't Utena make a train wreck of the whole Prince/Bride/Witch thing by her very presence too? There were other female duelists, but Utena was the only one to take the whole "Prince" thing seriously. The idea of two very different character archetypes (Princess-as-cheerleader/trophy and Princess-as-ruler) both using the same name, and thus getting confabulated all to hell was sorta the point In Pinkie's mind, a Princess is a High Queen. The people in Revolutionary Girl Utena think of a Princess as someone almost utterly passive. Utena steadily took apart the Prince-Princess-Witch roles piece by piece, but started the series wanting to be a prince, and she played into the roles for a long while. Pinkie will believe the Rose Bride is the one running the show, and act accordingly until someone clues her in otherwise. Given Pinkie's personality, that will take some time, and until the miscommunication is resolved, there will be a great deal of chaos on what it means to be a Princess. Then Princess Tutu
''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll
And for the sheer WTF? value, Princess Mononoke, followed by The Princess Bride. *Evil grin.*
Actually, I think Pinkie would fit in fairly well in Princess Tutu, in general at least. Though it does raise the question of how her Movie Monster Right Behind You Now power would interface with Grandpa Scaryclown's Movie Monster Watching You Right Now power.

So we have Prince-as-ruler, Prince-as-knight, Princess-as-ruler, and Princess-as-prize. (And if we're dragging UF-Cephiro into this, Princess-as-Pillar. I'm only ignoring Rob's mention of Sister Princess because I am completely unfamiliar with the anime, lacking even the familiarity-through-fanworks that I have with SKU. Actually...) Does Sister Princess happen to involve a Prince-as-prize situation at some point, Rob?
Almost unrelated, and only because the line won't leave me alone since I made the comparison: "Once a King or Queen of Equestria, always a King or Queen". Proginoskes Wrote:Does Sister Princess happen to involve a Prince-as-prize situation at some point, Rob?Nope - they're only "princesses" inasmuch as their brother treats them like princesses. -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Professor Sinestra. (Oddly enough, as far as Google knows, this does not seem to ever have been done in any form.)
Take Lelouch Lamperouge, Saito Hiraga, Zero Kikyuu, Aika Sumeragi and throw them into Fate/Zero setting. And what do you get?
I don't know, but the Grail war would definitely be different. __________________ Into terror!, Into valour! Charge ahead! No! Never turn Yes, it's into the fire we fly And the devil will burn! - Scarlett Pimpernell
