Fanfic Recommendations meet Abbott and Costello

Vathara has a few new stories for us to drool over.
Sanzo vs the Alien Invasion continues the 'Project Tatterdemalion' series elsewhere in the galaxy, this time with a Saiyuki crossover instead of Bleach.

Through the Cracks moves the action and fun of Ruroni Kenshin to... Valdemar?

And finally, Waking to Another Sky puts a new group in charge of the SAO survivors: Stargate Command. Turns out Kayaba was up to more than just VR dickery....

Smells Like Hope
Agatha's first encounter with a Jager goes well. Very well. He's courting her and she likes it. This has one or two effects on the story - starting with derailing it immediately.

Of Wasps and Wizards
After Leviathan and Echidna wreck Brockton Bay, killing a lot of people including Danny and the Undersiders, Taylor is relocated to Chicago. There, she meets Myrrdin, and his girlfriend, 'occult reporter' Susan Rodriguez. And a very annoying ghost.

A Plum in the Dark: (Naruto/RWBY/SI) Ume, the SI star of Naruto-fic "Sugar Plums" (itself a recursafic of "Dreaming of Sunshine"), falls through a crack in the world and lands in the forest outside Beacon. Culture Shock happens. High School ensues.

Assembly Line (or Why It's a Lot Harder than Steve Thought to Recruit New Members) - Steve Rogers tries to recruit a few more people for the Avengers... and finds it a little more difficult than expected. A fusion of Marvel movies (with some Netflix) with the Ultimates universe (mostly Ultimates Avengers and Spider-man). Currently up to 15 stories.
*edit* now that I've read further along, YMMV - some of the stories get a bit saccharine & some weird tangents

The Next Frontier - Summary:

"The Kerbal Space Program has come a long way in the thirty years since their first manned launch. Permanent settlements on Duna, extensive asteroid mining operations, an orbital habitat in the works... Not too shabby for something that began with a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs building sounding rockets out of scrap metal.
But for the Kerbin Space Agency, there's no such thing as a final frontier. Their scientists have probed the depths of the mysterious space-time distortion known as the Deep-Space Kraken and learned the secret of faster-than-light travel, and now the five brave Kerbals of the starship Starfarer 1 are setting out on their people's first mission to another star system...
And boy, are they going to be surprised when they get there!"
“We can never undo what we have done. We can never go back in time. We write history with our decisions and our actions. But we also write history with our responses to those actions. We can leave the pain and the damage in our wake, unattended, or we can do the work of acknowledging and fixing, to whatever extent possible, the harm that we have caused.”

Cousins by dogbertcarroll
With Sirius Black on the loose, the Ministry has decided that it's too dangerous to send Harry home to the Dursleys for the summer. Better to send him to a fine, upstanding, responsible wizarding family, like the Malfoys.

Then the American Ministry weighs in with their own suit at the custody hearing. Turns out there's another cousin out there, and they want him to have custody of Harry.

One Alexander Harris, just out of high school.

If this has been rec'd before, then I ask to be forgiven.

Set just after Xander had been dumped by Cordelia.
Ed: dang spell checkers.

DogbertCarroll has posted a bunch of stuff on TTH & FFNet recently that looks like they'd be interesting. This is one of them... and rather definitely not the best.

I'd love to see more of "Cousins", for example. http://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-32195/d ... ousins.htm

I find I've rather enjoyed the recent Mercy series from Rorschach's Blot under his Odd Ideas thread. A mysterious voice steers a young Mercy Graves from DC into becoming partners with Harry Potter. It's not a deep story by any means, with a hero getting multiple power-ups and no effective pushback from the villain side. However, I like the dynamic between the two.

As a side note: Trying to figure out the proper possessive form of "Rorschach's Blot" was confusing. Rorschach's Blot's?

No, I don't believe the world has gone mad.  In order for it to go mad it would need to have been sane at some point.

This one is just freakin' hilarious.

It's a crossover, primarily set in Danmachi - aka "Is it Wrong to try to Pick Up Girls in the Dungeon?" - where the various Gods have been empowering Adventurers to explore a Dungeon. It's their latest entertainment, you see.

Into all this, the various Gods of Chaos have decided to Join the Party.

Meet Fuzzy Flops. Ten year old rabbit-girl. Street urchin, thief, and general scoundrel. Newly appointed Champion of Khorne.

'Whom the Princesses Would Destroy', a funny, short (complete at just under 20k words), MLP:FiM series (apparently mixed with some 'Yes Minister' for flavour)It focuses on the Canterlot Civil Service.

I've recently come across the anime and light novel series Overlord and I find it fascinating, though I can also see how it wouldn't be to everyone's tastes.

For those who do enjoy the series, and don't mind spoilers for things that haven't been covered by the anime yet, I recommend The Reluctant Overlord as a story that captures the humor of the series and the off-kilter psychology of many of the characters.

For those of you who remember Yu Yu Hakusho, there is Lucky Child, an SI fic featuring a girl put into the life of Keiko.  A pretty solid fic, and the author seems to have a few neat original ideas I haven't seen before.

One-shot, Potter. "Shaggy Dog Story," but worth it.

I'd like to recommend Embers among the Ash, a Pokemon fanfic where the Pokemon are just as much characters as the humans. It's pretty good.

Is there a separate thread for recommending Quests?
If not, does anyone have any they would like to recommend?

If you like Crusader Kings II style Warhammer Fantasy, A Dynasty of Dynamic Alcoholism is a great read. A drunken noble who inexplicable finds all his relatives killed and thrusts him into the role of Elector Count of Ostland. Things get progressively more insane from there.

Stark Transcendant

Tony Stark finds himself in a cave. With a box of scraps. Then builds something else before the Iron Man suit to get out. Things get progressively more insane from there.

Boiling Blood
A Familiar of Zero quest where the character is a noble water mage who kinda sucks at healing. He goes to wizard school. Things get progressively more insane from there.

We've discussed Vathara's SAO/SG-1 fic earlier. She's got another one, "Monstrous Compendium Online", which takes Aincrad into Eberron, of all places.

Forge of Destiny by yrsillar [xianxia, original]. The adventures of Ling Qi at the Argent Sect basically. Great setting and great characters. The QM plays around with the usual xianxia tropes in a very interesting way and I'm fond of all the characters, even the antagonists, for their depth. I also really enjoy the MC being a support-oriented character rather than the usual DPS type. The only thing I'd warn about is that the QM sometimes mixes up between 2nd and 3rd person POV, but the quest is well worth reading.
