Actually, it doesn't. That was cleared up in about 5 minutes.
GPL applications/tools can be included in commercial software, as long as the GPL-required text files are included, and it is *clear* that you are paying for the commercial code, not the GPL code.
id/Valve's problem was they didn't include all the text files (they included the license file, but not the copying.txt file and a couple others) - that wasn't a GPL violation, it was just asshollery.
They included the files with a recent update, and it's all fixed now.

awww, I wanted my dramas!
I wonder if the .WAD files are all there still, on the DOOM stuff.. might be worth it to stuff them into WinDoom and have some nice modern engine high-res doomfest. Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979

I don't belive the GPL forbids you from selling the stuff, as long as the code is included of course. But what it doesn't allow is prohibiting the futher distubution of the GPL'ed material, meaning anyone can just put it on the web and there is nothing you can do about it.

IANAL
However, I _think_ that in this case, the GPL distribution regime would only apply to the DosBox emulator being used to make the older stuff run more reliably/better, not to the propietary ID Stuff.
Anyone remember the Quake CD with a buttload of full versions on it?Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979

Yeah, I remember that CD, it was hilarious. It took like what, 1 day before everyone on the 'net had the keygen for all the games?--
