Meh. Considering how godawful the last Slayers anime release was, I think I'll give this one a pass unless it receives overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Oh great. My glee meter broke again.
And fictional restaurant owners just had a sudden feeling of mindnumbing terror.

Eh, Slayers Try wasn't as good as Slayers Next, but I'd hesitate to call it "godawful"...
But I wonder what Gourry will be doing... I mean he was already marginalized in the (2nd half of the) 3rd season.
I know I'll be tracking it down, though.

Try had some weak moments, but one advantage it had over Next was one heck of a final battle, as opposed to the Deus Ex Nightmare (Which was very cool, but
still).

Pros for NEXT:
- Tighter overall plotting. The series has a definite beginning, middle, and end to its primary plot, all of which segue from one
threat(the various mazoku assassins, Gaav, Fibrizzo) with definable changes and foreshadowing(we hear about Gaav before we see him, and Fibrizzo's hiding
among the cast before he reveals himself).
- The Gourry/Lina relationship arc is well put together and progresses quite well, especially Lina's grief after he's kidnapped.
Cons:
- Only one particularly clever battle scene, against the two Mazoku manipulating Seyruun. Gaav, while scary and invulnerable, simply can't be fought and
thus can be a little boring. Fibrizzo is terrifying in his omnipotence, and requires a literal deus ex machina to bring down.
- The Gourry/Lina relationship arc is completely dumped after its climax, to bring everything back to status quo.
Pros for TRY:
- Filia's an interesting new addition to the cast(and a welcome relief from making Sylphiel's life absolute hell again), and her playing off of Xellos is just downright funny. Her character arc is also downright compelling, particularly at the
crypt of the Black Dragons.
- Valgaav, similarly, is a compelling villain and has the first downright sympathetic motivations of a Slayers villain(let's face it. Copy Rezo? Kind of a
nutcase to begin with). Similarly, the Outerworld Darkstar and his former servants provide an interesting look at the cosmology of the universe.
- Valgaav's thugs are dangerous and smart, but also have their own reasons for following him which are sympathetic.
- One *kickass* final battle that, while it requires a little DEM, is actually solved by the characters parsing out how to defeat Darkstar on their own.
Cons for TRY:
- While they certainly tease enough of a Xellos/Filia relationship, Gourry and Lina get absolutely no screentime. However, given the situation at the end of
NEXT, this is hardly TRY's fault alone.
- The series builds some serious momentum up until the "summoning Darkstar" sequence, which then causes the series to screech to a halt for the
pre-requisite dedicated comedy eps. However, it recovers quickly.
Anyway, looking forward to this because modern examples of Slayers animation(the recent music video and OVAs) have been amazing in quality, and seeing a full
length series would warm my fanboy heart a good deal. Also hoping some hanging plot points (the teases at at least three relationships, the other Mazoku lords,
and Amelia and Naga's relationship) will be addressed. Bring it on, I say.

Nice breakdown there, OpMegs.
It's the long, drawn out plot that was a '-' for me.
Although I did like the Heros of Justice episode--such a great character development for Amelia.

I'm willing to stipulate everything after Dark Star's summoning was terribad, but before that it was as enjoyable as anything in Slayers
was, least wise for me. The inevitable Xellos betrayal still cracks me up when only Filia seems outraged or even surprised.
Looking at the promo art, I already feel a deep loathing for the cute obnoxious mascot, despite not even having heard anything about it. It simply LOOKS that
annoying.

I wasn't referring to Slayers Try, but to the godawful Slayers Premium. The movie released in 2001 which was really, truly, horrendously bad.
That is, the latest anime produced.

Oh God, Slayers Premium. That was lame. Although I still snicker when Amelia fell victim to the speech virus mid sentence.

What is this "Slayers Premium" you speak of?
Next you'll be telling me there's a season of "Sailor Moon" between S and Stars, or a sequel to "Gatekeepers", or somebody dubbed
"Love Hina" and "Card Captor Sakura"...

Or made a second season of Gundam SEED.

Destiny wasnt BAD, it was actually pretty decent as long as you watch the Destiny PLUS OAV instead of the tv series ending

Any show which requires extensive post-broadcast editing to fix the PLOT has failed its mission.

Destiny had Lunamarie. That makes it good!

It's not a fundamentally bad plot, really....it was just handled very hamfistedly.
I still can't quite hate it, because it brought Mu back from the dead, but I can't quite like it, because it made Cagalli a sobbing basket case that couldn't accomplish anything in a mobile suit that was essentially invincible to beam fire.
The mecha designs were pretty sweet, though (

And now there's a spoilerific http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-r ... revolution available in English! In a nutshell: it looks like a re-imagining...

Interesting. There's definitely some plots adapted from the novel setting there. And Xellos shows up much earlier. This could definitely be good, as while
I love Slayers Season 1 to death, the animation is showing its age. A redone Shabranigdo fight could be badass.

After looking into some things, I think I can safely report Revolution is NOT a reimagining of the original series, it's picking up the plot at Novel 9 in
the series. Which means the Sword of Light has been destroyed/lost/whatever and the gang is now looking for a new sword that Gourry can use to sword at things
with.

Yep, it's definitely not a re-imagining.
And http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/1253.html]a short TV trailer is up. (Thank you, Mishicorp...)

And Raws for ep 1 are up already. I don't understand a THING they're saying, but sweet mercy, the animation is beautiful.

Ep 1 starts with Lina and Gourry picking a fight with a fleet of pirates... and winning.
Looks like Slayers to me!
