Never try to take on ice, you will LOSE
Never try to take on ice, you will LOSE
#1
...As I so painfully demonstrated on accident yesterday.

I was coming down the front steps of the house, as me and my b/f were going to get my plates renewed at the DMV. My foot found a patch of ice, and I promptly
slipped and fell hard on my butt, hitting my spine on the edge of the porch (which is concrete, along with the steps). I then slipped down the next few steps
on my butt.

So today, you'd think I'd gotten into a car accident with how much I am hurting. My spine hurts where I hit it, a LOT. My lower back hurts, my left
buttcheek hurts, the back of my right hip hurts, my right forearm hurts, and my neck hurts when I crane my head back. Took forever to fall asleep last night,
despite taking Excedrin. Took some ibuprofen a couple hours ago and that seems to be working a tiny bit.

I am currently firmly planted on the couch, with a pillow behind my back. I'm ok as long as I don't try to get up. Gee, work ought to be fun
tomorrow. Seven hours on my feet, hooray...

If it still hurts on sunday, I would upgrade that 'probably' to 'definitely'.

your spine and hips are two things you don't want to take chances on as they are high wear and tear and hard to replace.

Yeah, what Norway said.

Two years ago I stepped on a patch of black ice as I got out of my car in the parking lot at work. My feet went right out from under me and I smacked the back
of my head on the asphalt. A bad whack, complete with scalp wound and bleeding. My supervisor's first response was "let me take you to the
hospital". Fortunately, I was not injured any worse than that, but it was a scare. Better to have a professional look you over and tell you it's minor
than to assume it's not a big deal and then find out too late that it is.

protip: when walking on ice, keep an image of a penguin in your head. You don't need to concentrate on _walking_ like a penguin, just keep an image of one
in your head.

Well, once Justin got my car jumped yesterday I called the doctor to see if I could go in, but alas, my doctor's been out all week. So I talked with a
nurse, who asked if I was having any pain in my legs (presumably to rule out anything really serious). My legs are fine, I said. She said based on my weight
I could take up to 600mg of ibuprofen (three pills) every six hours. Also said to put ice on my back, then try heat in a couple days. She asked if I wanted
to make an appointment for today with a different doctor and I told her I'd see how I feel first.

I feel a little better today, although it still took forever to fall asleep last night. I'm still plenty stiff and sore, but I just gotta take it easy.

I seem to have bad luck with back injuries ^_^; I hurt it at work six years ago trying to lift something too heavy, then a little over three years later I get
another work injury, having a twenty-pound box drop on my head from about ten feet up (that was concussion #2 for me), which aggravated that old injury. And
now this, and although not muscle-related like the original injury it is almost on the exact same level in terms of location.

Lucky for me I didn't hit my head; that would've been concussion #4 for me! I don't think I can afford any more! (I've never broken a bone,
and oh how ironic it would be to have a broken SPINE be my first -- I'm not saying it's broken but if I had a hairline fracture or something I
wouldn't be surprised).

Gah.... my sympathies. And let me chime in on "get it looked at if it continues". One of my earliest memories is slipping and falling as a 3 year old
on a patch of black ice. I like snow, but I HATE ice with a passion. And being a lot heavier now than I was as a kid, a fall would (and has) hurt MUCH worse.

Of course I think now I know part of why Yumeko is so "accident-prone". Smile

Yumeko's accidents aren't accidents, they're cases of being in the wrong place at the wrong time Wink

Me, I'm just clumsy. And I'm tiny, so having no natural "padding" tends to have a negative effect on me when I do have MINE...

(And on that subject, now that I've had a shift at work, my hips certainly aren't liking me. Ouch. Oddly my back is ok.)

To be expected, actually. The hip joints are a little less resilient than the back muscles. Couldn't tell you why, only that my chiropractor said that my
back pains would heal faster than the hip pains when I injured them through RSI (wear bad shoes long enough and they will fuck up your back and hips).

My back is getting better -- that one spot on my spine isn't so tender to the touch, though the lower back will still get sore if I try to stretch it out.
And sitting or moving wrong will make that spot on my right hip hurt. Needless to say, driving a car isn't the most comfortable thing in the world.

So yeah, despite my back being intially the most injured spot, it's feeling better the fastest! It's just my darn hip! =P I guess I could still go to
the doc, just to be sure I didn't crack anything, huh?

Just my luck. Dr. Shriver is not in on Wednesdays, but I made an appointment to see him tomorrow morning.

FWIW, the big deal about me wanting to only see him is that when I go see somebody who's not my PCP the insurance company tries to sock me for some extra
money. I'm pretty sure (reasonably sure...) that nothing's broken, so I think I can wait another day.

Ah, my back is stiff today. Every muscle below that spot on my spine I hit is stiff. And my hips hurt. But hey, that's why they invented ibuprofen!!
*cheesy thumbs up*

My boyfriend is an idiot. O_O

He managed to find a way to aggravate my hip injury. Something he'll do sometimes when I'm sitting next to him is grab my leg and hold it across his
lap. Normally I'm flexible enough for that, but tonight he did it -- my RIGHT leg, of course (my right hip is the one that's been hurting). Ohhh,
talk about paaaain. I hollered, and after a few seconds I yelled, "Let go!" I pulled it away, and well, I had things hurting I didn't know I
had. Now I can definitely say I know what hip joint pain feels like.

Wish I could say I feel better. I don't. I took three ibuprofen almost immediately after he did that but I'm not feeling much of a difference. My
right leg and foot were kinda numb for a while but I think that's a little better. But now when I walk my hip feels very strange, like my leg is out of
place -- walking doesn't hurt though -- and my leg is actually twisted a tiny bit to the right (you have to look at my foot to see it).

Gee, good thing I have that doctor's appointment in the morning o_O;

You stay the hell off that leg until after the Doc sees it. That sounds Really Karking Bad. As in "dislocated" or "torn ligaments" bad.

Yeah, my first thought was that he dislocated the friggin' thing, but that would mean I wouldn't be able to put weight on it, doesn't it? But I
can, and it doesn't hurt to walk. And now that I've had a night's sleep (can't say it was good) it doesn't feel so out of place. Still
sore though, of course (and I have a tiny tiny bit of a limp, as now my right buttcheek hurts).

*sigh* I love him but he's such a putz sometimes ^_^;

Well, my appointment is in a little over an hour. Let's see how bad the doctor says he made things by trying to be cute XD

Okey dokey, now that I have gone to the doctor, here's what I have to report.

After testing my range of motion with my right hip and feeling up and down my spine, the doc said I did NOT dislocate my hip. However, I "may" have
broken my tailbone (due to the fall) and ripped something in my hip (due to my b/f). I got a prescription for Vicodin (since I said three ibuprofen wasn't
doing much) and was sent off to the hospital to get x-rays of my lower back, sacrum, and tailbone. The results of those are supposed to come back tomorrow.

So now it's the wait-and-see game. Whee.

And I definitely have a limp now, especially if I'm on my feet for more than a few minutes. But sitting down isn't much better.

well it's not great news, but not as bad as it could be.

and the vicodin will get rid of your sleeping problems (at least they did for me when I broke my collar bone)
