"That's pretty good, but what does it -mean-?" (For BGC fans)
02-25-2009, 12:57 AM
So we all love BGC's music here, yes? It's one of the huge selling points of the series.
Well, I've always liked it, but occasionally, I want a little more. Like lyrics I can actually understand/sing along with. And in my endless trawl, I have
discovered the four below.
Rock Me
Mad Machine
The ones below here are basically direct rips from the dub, but never fear, those who prefer the Japanese spoken vocals will only have a smattering of English
to wade through.
Konya Wa Hurricane (From Tinsel City)
Say Yes! (from Double Vision)
Credit for Rock Me goes to Baseload, who provided the Anime Music Radio recording that I tweaked a little to remove the bumpers, while Say Yes! was located by
Spud.

Thanks for the links, OM -- but I'm having trouble getting "Say Yes". It keeps telling me that there's no server with the file available, no
matter how long I wait or often I reload.

Funky, I get the same error when I test it. I think Ops is off at work at the moment, I'll pester him about it shortly-ish.

So, how different are these from the CD tracks? (I have the CDs...)

Aside from the choice of language, not really much. Priss's VA singer for the dub has a bit deeper of a voice than her Japanese one(the comparison to Joan Jett in The Iron Age is rather apt), though I note that the backup singers in the Japanese version of Konya Wa Hurricane are a bit better at their job than the English ones.
Say Yes! actually isn't that different at all, by comparison, as Vision's VA has a fairly soft, somewhat higher pitched voice, which equates to the Japanese seiyuu singing the song pretty well. The main difference, again, is that the lyrics are in English and you can actually follow them without being bilingual. :lol

The link for "Say Yes!" now takes you to a page with a red banner reading "Invalid File. This error has been forwarded to MediaFire's
development team." and then claims the file may have been removed.

Hmm. That's very odd, especially since I deleted and re-uploaded the original and got the same response not 5 seconds after the upload finished.
The bizarre thing is I can't imagine why it out of the four gets that attention at all. :lol
EDIT: Renaming the file seems to have fixed it, but time will tell. Linky
Here
Edit the 2th: Or not. Apparently it really doesn't like that file. O_o

Works fine for me if you get tricky with it: Go to one of the other links, and then click the link just above it saying 'browse optimalmegatron's
public files'. From there you can get to 'Say Yes(Dub Version)' just fine.

Wow, I actually had the English BGC tracks back in university (over a decade ago now). Was never able to find them again, despite some considerable searching.
Neat to see someone's come up with them.

You know, while we're on the topic of English-language versions of anime songs, does anyone have a copy of Wendee Lee singing "God Knows" from Haruhi?

No luck with Wendee Lee's version of "God Knows...", alas. (And I don't have any contacts at Bandai to ask about it...)

I've got an .mp3 of it myself, but it's on my PC's internal HD, and thus unavailable till it arrives via UPS in a few days. But, once I get ahold
of it, I'll toss it up. Admittedly, the audio quality's a little poor because of it being a YouTube rip, though.

Thanks, OM. I've been wondering if I have the tools to rip it from our DVDs, myself, but that's something I've never been interested in trying
before, so I don't know if I've got anything that'll do the job...
