New Fic Recommendations: The Phoned-in Sequel
New Fic Recommendations: The Phoned-in Sequel

Well, the current Rec thread was getting long in the tooth:
Long Sabrina Online Self-insert whose value may be inflated in my head from "Early Fanfic Buzz":
Identity Crisis

Warning, fic is ten years old, and may include dated memes because of this.

Does it count as fic if it's original alternate history?

I started reading that one myself a little bit ago.  Victorian era hang-gliders, a chick that is a christian canibal, a witty and whimsical crew of British tars, an old Japanese engineer, and a mystery dirigible... what is there not to love?

Probably not original, but certainly funny, Things Members of the TSAB are not allowed to do is available for your perusing pleasure.

And not only TSAB.  I see references to Sailor Moon, Mahorama, and Disgea in there as well.
Oh, and I don't know why, but I can somehow see this happening:
Quote:31) The Infinity Library is not, and has never been, "Yuuno Scrya's House of Love."
31a) ...until yesterday! -LH

31b) Your days are numbered, Ferret Boy. -CH

31c) I'd just like to go on record as saying that this was not my idea. -YS

31d) You didn't seem to mind at the time. J -LH

31e) ...No comment. -YS

What if Petunia had married higher on the food chain and snagged herself a scientist? Rationalist!Harry enters the wizarding world armed with the lore passed down from Richard Feynman, the ideals of the Enlightenment, and a cursed scar...

Chapter 5... I haven't laughed that hard in months...

Oooohhh, SCIENCE!Potter. Now this looks interesting... Review to follow. (^_^)
EDIT: Okay, from the begining, I was completely unexpecting of the events in Chapter 5.  THAT was completely and utterly cracktastic.

Going_Forward. It's a sequel to Going Native, a good BSG/Star Trek cross.

The Dragon Sisters is a nice W.I.T.C.H. story.

Johanna's Story

NCIS/Castle with a touch of Bones and Burn Notice... it's part 3 in a series of NCIS fics, but it can stand by itself as well

"The Middle Ground" has been recommended before, I believe - at least I've been reading it for a while, and I'm fairly certain I got the link from these forums. Quite good.

yup, I've been posting links in the update threads as I notice new chapters.

But it's good to see I'm not alone in the enjoyment of "The Middle Ground"

Reds: A Revolutionary Timeline and the sequel, A Red Dawn: American Revolution an Rebirth over on AH.com. The premise: McKinley isn't assassinated, Teddy Roosevelt and his Progressive reforms get marginalized, and what follows from that. Includes fun bits like Patton leading the Red Army. Highly recommended.

Ah, yes, that's an old one, from the 90s, but still good after all these years.

Not exactly new, but I might as well recommend a couple of fics which have been on my list for a while, and which I don't think I got from here.

First, The Sharp Edge of Dreams and its sequel Child of Fire. They're Labyrinth fics, and the first one looks fairly generic as such fics go, if in the better end of the quality range; fantasy romp, sidhe nobility, quasi-magical attraction, awakening magical power, various other less notable elements - nothing to really make it stand out. In the sequel, however, things fairly quickly start to become quite interesting.

Unfortunately updates are very slow indeed; IIRC there was something like a year and a half between the two most recent chapters, if not more, and it's been another two years plus since the last update. Still, there's quite a bit already written, and hope springs eternal.

Second, The Golden Power, the single best Legend of Zelda fanfic I've ever run across. It's written as a continuation of "Twilight Princess", but it eventually ties in at least nearly every single previous Link/Zelda/Ganon/Triforce game in the series, and quite possibly most of the ones not yet written as well - and the original (or, at least, non-fanfic) elements are good enough that I don't want to try to describe them.

Unfortunately, again, updates are slow, although not on the scale of "Child of Fire"; it's something more like one chapter every three to six months, if memory serves, and we're due for another anytime in the next three months if that schedule holds.

A new fic, only three chapters so far, but it looks to have potential. The existing material is well-written, at least. Potternator. To quote the author's own summary:
Quote:Skynet sent an avatar of itself back to change history. Its mission - terminate the "Savior of the Wizarding World" before he can threaten Skynet. Too bad it didn't know that when dealing with Harry Potter that nothing goes as it should.
