Perhaps he missed a memo, and thought the rumble was meant to be a stickfight? Or it could be he's the only one who didn't plan to cheat.

He's clearly a bard giving the others a morale bonus on to hit and damage.

He just brought the wrong axe. At the Hard Rock in Toronto, there is (or was, last time I was there) an enormous Gene Simmons battle-axe -- yes, you could do power chords on it or chop off heads. Archetypal Brutal Legend, or FLCL with edge.
Then again, there was the old "Silverhawks" animated series; the only "good guy" without integral cybernetic weaponry was the pilot, and he used a guitar that fired energy beams (burning musical notes into the walls, natch) when he strummed the right chords.
And let's not foret el Mariachi.
Hee.

Let's see if I can fail my reference rolls from left to right: Generic Bishop ... Azrael of DC fame... Generic Jedi - Anakin or Luke Skywalker ... Shepard of Mass Effect fame ... and finally Rainbow Dash [shudder... I recognize MLP characters, pass the brain bleach]
Actuly, lothar is dressed as Vincent Valentine for FF7 fame

Yup, that is Vincent valentine from ff7. That discription was dead on....the whole dead/wannabe vampire thing and the costume to concider...I would be about 80 percent sure of it.
