New Fic Recommendations: The Phoned-in Sequel

I think the reasoning for trying to force them to go home is that they are obviously a danger to the world. The power level of the original characters was already higher than normal for that world, and the newcomers are even more powerful. As for Vash, I think it was implied that he had outlived everyone else on his planet, and there is nothing to go back to.

I could see the antagonists thinking that way, but for the people actually doing the fighting here, it feels like there's a few steps missing. (Especially since they could reasonably feel that they've done more good than harm, IMO.)

Some people have Worm SIs with phenomenal cosmic power.
My Worm SI is Emma and Madison's therapist.

Maybe the return spell sends everyone summoned back, whether they want to or not? Looking back, it could be a bit clearer. Though the Seraph spell was cast to summon someone wiling and able to defeat the original characters, specifically to stop them from going around stripping elves, and Evangeline points that out when asked if she really doesn't want to go home. Given the context, the elf hunters interpret that as "We will stop you from going home, as that is your goal, and we oppose you." This becomes the case thanks to a few misunderstandings, and I think the newcomers assume what I speculated earlier about how the return spell works to be true.

Guys, if you're going to discuss this fic at length, maybe you should make a thread for it.

I can kill it in one post.  Simply put... the reason they needed (not wanted) to go home in the first place is the summoning spell is defective.  It keeps going until the summons are returned home or the planets involved fuse... without a losing any mass... add in 4 or more planets and in a year or so the planets will be mutually telefragged (best case scenario) or be a massive gravity well and start imploding space time across multiple dimensions.  I can't see any of the characters particularly interested in committing group suicide with 2 dozen billion plus or so people.
If you guys do make a new thread... kindly do not obsess over some that was a major plot point in the base series.

That's not something to be proud of, nor AFAIK is it a desirable outcome.

(Hmm. That's a little amusing; although Yuku have apparently updated their software somewhat, in that there are new options at posting time, they still haven't fixed the fact that using the Preview option from the "Quick Reply" box inserts a tag before every newline in the edit box.)

Well, in my defense, Its been ages since I've watched Those Who Hunt Elves, and I don't remember that particular point at all. If the original characters know this, then this whole thing just became a We Could Have Avoided All This, as they really should have mentioned the spell causing the apocalypse to the newcomers, instead of focusing on them wanting to go home.

Okay, folks, let's try this again, a little more firmly. Make a separate thread for the discussion about this fic.

I recommend!
The World Without
, by Lunaludus Sribex
  • Synopsis: Follows Bad End #1. Shirou is as good as
dead, but the war will go on without him. Unwilling to give up her
chance at the Grail just yet, Saber seeks out the remnants of the
Makiri family hoping to find a new master and finds herself enlisted by
Zouken as a back-up Servant and bodyguard for Sakura.
  • Comments: Illya abuses Shiro's head liberally with power tools. The actual story parts is pretty good, though since it's Sakura-centric, there's lots of angst involved. And Shinji's there, so of course it's always Moral Event Horizon Crossing-time. Lancer is actually quite fun. Lancer seems to be the go-to guy for Funny among FSN writers...

late to Mahora because he got stuck in a Holy Grail War. Yuuno lost some Jewel
Seeds. Nodoka's legs are paralyzed, so Signum takes her to class.
Basically, Mahora is ground zero.

If the series assumes Sailor Moon's genre trumps 40ks I am so in.
I love me some epic tragedy (Exalted is awesome!) but 40k isn't tragedy, its black comedy of the most nihilistic sort.

I don't know about the Bhepin fanfic, but there is another take on the same concept at spacebattles forum.  The narrator is Ciphas Cain, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!  The current appeal is mainly the cool action sequences, the odd pop culture reference, and laughing at how utterly screwed Cain is.  Confusingly enough, it shares a title with Bhepin's fic.

He mentions that other story in the author's note, actually.  It's where he got the title from.  If you know where it is, could you post a link?  Bhepin recommended it, and I'd like to take a look.
EDIT:
I am an idiot, and didn't notice your link until right after I hit 'post'.  Sorry about that.

Oh my oh my.

I came upon these stories after stumbling on a recommendation in the Caer Azkaban Yahoo group. It's a series of Harry Potter/Addams Family crossovers, but unlike any others I've seen; its Addams Family starts with the movie version and runs from there... and the Harry in this story is different right from the start.

Somehow made even better by the author's claim that he's written each story in one sitting in the dark of night during a fit of insomnia...

The "Harveste Addams" stories by kyaru-chan:

Harveste
Harveste Addams and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harveste Addams and the Chamber of Secrets
Harveste Addams and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The last was just posted today, and the first was posted only five days ago. If the author keeps churning these out in one sitting during the dark of insomniac nights, it ought to be done within the week, and he ought to be in need of hospitalization. Given the contents of these stories, he may already be in need of hospitalization...

There is also an ff.net copy of the Cain story which may be easier to read, here

Ah, thanks.  That makes things easier.
Also, If you haven't read Avatar Aang: An Annotated Bibliography, I highly recommend it.  It is an in universe bibliography of various documents about the life and times of Avatar Aang, compiled several hundred years after his death.  It is currently on hiatus, as the author is trying to come up with more ideas, and was written before any information was released on the spin off series, The Legend of Korra.  It's important to remember this, as the author manages to pick the correct name for Aang's son.

Wow, that's an interesting and unusual approach. I like it.

Now a recommendation from me:

Beyond the Grave. This is brand new, only one short chapter, but it looks like it's got potential. The Powers That Be give the ghost of Slayer Nikki Woods the ability to become corporeal so that she can help... the Ghostbusters.

I've mentioned this in the update thread before, but I just realized its never actually been recced yet.
The Fun and Perky Warrior's Wolf Tail
A series of Avatar: The Last Airbender oneshots/ficlets.  Most of them are standalones, a few rely on each other.  Number 21, the newest one, has an amazing Oh Crap! moment, which I've never seen done before.
EDIT:
If nothing else, read chapter 14.  It's titled "Captain America's Second World War"
