PoserWorld is offering a special one-week membership. Cost: whatever you want to pay. (They recommend at least $5, to cover their payment-handling costs, but that's just a suggestion.)http://store.poserworld.com/products/22 ... -want.aspx
They're also in the middle of releasing a "city-storefront" series of building shells, and filling the shell of their corner bar...

Hopefully that will keep until Friday, which is the first evening I'll be able to take advantage of that offer to the fullest.--

I strongly suggest you grab a copy of The Big List before Friday, so you know what you want to download. (I've been a member for a few months now, and I still don't have everything I want - you have to prioritize your downloads.)http://poserworld.com/The.Big.List.aspx
Oh, and if you're planning to pay $20, get the monthly membership instead...

The second time is a lot easier than the first - I know what I had to do ahead of time this time.
I'm hosting this month's Freebie Challenge over on the DAZ3D forums - come and play! (This, by the way, was why I needed that list of older SF.)
![[Image: may2013-banner.png]](http://web.ncf.ca/fm536/tempstuff/may2013-banner.png) EDIT: And we've already got our first entry! Fastest first-entry so far this calendar year - this bodes well.

May Freebie Challenge is at seven entries so far: three renders in the style of book covers or movie posters, one Barsoom image, one Metropolis image, and two that could have come out of Collier's Magazine. (Amazingly enough, there are no Classic Trek images yet...) Alas, I have no volunteer judges yet (a problem shared with last month's Freebie Challenge), so I may end up roping my gaming group into judging the entries. Again, come and play!

Anyway...

This week's "Daz freebie" (actually a bonus-with-purchase) is The Treasure Beast . Roughly half the people posting about it on the Daz forums don't know what it is, although one person did start a thread by asking whether it was usable with the lip-sync software associated with Daz Studio, -- Rob Kelk

Without actually installing and learning Blender (because I understand that's got a steep learning curve), is there any way to convert models from .blend to .obj (or .pp2)?
There are more than a few Blender models of older computers and game consoles here, including both Sony's and IBM's PS2:

I see no mention of opening .blend files outside of Blender on the first page of a quick google search. However, Blender is Open Source (i.e. Free+) and I don't think it would be too complex to open up the file in blender and then just export it with out doing anything else. I've managed to open and export files, with a little help from the google, and I'm by no means experienced with Blender. Unless there's some reason you don't want to install it, I don't think there'll be too much trouble using it just to swap file types.---

Ankhani is mostly correct. sometimes things dont always export cleanly, however; there could also be meta data involved that wont survive the export process as well.
Your best bet would, however, be to get blender, open the .blend and then immedialy export it to .obj

Has anyone mentioned http://3dopencommunity.com yet? The folks at Poser World are running this one, and they're doing their best to make it as inclusive as possible (unlike the forums associated with vendors, where discussion about software sold at competing sites is verboten).

They're looking for new topic headers. Here's a screen grab of the top-level topics they have so far - each of these has at least one subforum, and 2D...Post Production, Poser, and DAZ Studio have around a half-dozen each.

I appear to have forgotten to mention that I'm holding a mini-contest in the middle of this month's Freebie Challenge.
It's a theme near and dear to our hearts: The Crossover!

Entries due in by 23:59 Monday, Utah time...

Edit: That's less than 18 hours from now, as of when I made this edit. Doesn't anyone here want a $15 Daz GC?

		I just noticed this on Renderosity:http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/star ... er-/99561/
Which leads to the question: How do you do a lens flare in Daz Studio?

Are there any compatibility problems with using Poser 7 props/scenes/etc in Daz Studio? I keep forgetting where the "cutoff" is for materials just not looking good, no matter what one does...

(I'm asking because this is listed as a Poser 7 item: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/barber-shop/99514/ )
