If you're doing the tourist thing in Toronto and you happen to be near the Royal Ontario Museum or Queen's Park around lunchtime, might I recommend this inexpensive restaurant a few blocks away?

An okonomiyaki restaurant in Toronto? Color me delighted! That city has just earned yet another reason for me to visit.

Oh, cool. We're already planning on a couple days in downtown Toronto, so having another place to eat besides Happy Seven and the Marche Movenpick is a definite plus! Thanks!

After having looked at a map to see the area, I noticed something I'd never paid attention to, which led to the epiphany:

"Man, how backward has Detroit become that if you go south you wind up in Canada?"

Being born and raised in Windsor, I've long known that my part of the 'Great White North' is actually south of the US. 8)
Windsor's Latitude is 42^17'0" North.
For comparison:Boston: 42^21'29" NorthChicago: 41^52'55"The California/Oregon border: right at the 42^ line

OKay, that's a bit silly.

Well, whenever I can afford to go up to Toronto on my days off work, I'll look this up.

Bob, I have to let my boss know when I want to take time off for the rest of the year. I can afford a week off in September (I'll use the "spare" days for something); can you tell me which week?

Thanks. Can't get the 12th off, but no issue getting the 13th-19th. (And you wouldn't want a crowd the day you arrive, anyway.)

I made it there on my way back from visiting relatives earlier this week. They open at 11:30 weekdays, 12:00 Saturdays - they're closed Sundays.

And now for something to do in Toronto: Can you convince your group to wander away from downtown and visit the Ontario Science Centre? There's a special exhibit on until October: The Science of Rock 'N' Roll

Oh, cool, I'll tell them about it.

As for the get-together with everyone, we were talking about it earlier this week while laying out some basic planning. The idea that seems to be forming is an afternoon-evening get-together, but which day is not yet nailed down. As options shake out I'll post more here.

Sounds good. I can leave Ottawa just after breakfast and make it to Toronto for lunch time (and Toronto to Collingwood should take two hours), so "afternoon-evening" works best for me.

Speaking of driving: The 407 is the most expensive toll road in North America, according to a news report I heard a couple of weeks ago. The 401, which roughly parallels the 407, is a freeway.

The local record-store is closing one of its stores, and Everything Must Go. I picked up a big stack of old "sampler" CDs for you, Bob - if we're lucky, there might even be something worth listening to on one or two of them.

They're promo discs - don't worry about it. I can absorb the price of a coffee.

I also mentioned this project to a friend of mine who has connections in the local music scene. I'm not keeping track of what's he's paying for and what's getting for free, but I can say that (with the promo discs) you're going to have enough music to listen for months. There's a strong possibility of something by Jim Bryson in the mix...

It might come down to that.

Ever hear of a band called Furnaceface? My friend got almost every CD they've ever released, straight from the band, most for free. (He also scored a couple of tapes and a 7" single, but I'll keep those.) At this rate, I might end up mailing some of these to you, Bob.

BA, I've been looking at USB turntables for a while now, but I've just never had the cash to get one...
