BA, I've got the hardware - I just don't have it all connected yet.

Okay, more details have been shaking out.

Norway, I think we'll have to pass on meeting you for lunch -- Helen's concerned about just how long the drive is going to take (we have some health-related considerations in the group that will result in the drive being longer than it would otherwise be) and is concerned about adding an extra hour or more to it. Can we take a very open raincheck?

We'll be arriving too late on Friday to do anything more than flop down and go "gah, we're here". So, as expected, that will be out.

Monday is booked for Toronto.

Friday we're back on the road for home starting early.

Somewhere in between we have some family visits to do, but nothing's set there yet.

Everything else is open at the moment, and the intention is to take it easy at least half the days we're at the resort. So Rob and anyone else who wants to try to meet up with us, let's thrash out a day for that.

I'm OK by that. Let me know next time you'll be in the area. There isn't a whole lot in the way of Rilly Nifty Stuff around here (if Crazy Egor was still open I'd take you up there and let you paw through his stock of games, but he retired a year or so ago.)

Okay, you're unpacking Saturday morning, and you won't want to do "afternoon and evening" on Thursday if you're leaving the next day. That leaves Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I have the entire week off, but we can't expect everyone else to be available mid-week...

So, Sunday? Unless, of course, other folks are available mid-week.

If you can get to Toronto, I can pick you up for the rest of the trip. My current plan is to get a hotel room for the night of the get-together and head back the next day, and most rooms have two beds in them nowadays.

Okay, I've got the last of the CDs that my friend has managed to get for me (many for free, some for reduced prices).

I got a box to put them in.

I started putting them in the box.

I started taking them out of the box.

I got a bigger box...

I suspect I may end up ripping some of these for you, Bob, so you can at least have the music in case your customs limit doesn't let you take them all across the border.

Is this the plan? (Or would folks prefer midweek, or are Bob &co. willing to host on Saturday?)

I don't want to nag, but I do need to book a hotel room for a night...

Yes, I've cleared it. Sunday is the forumite-get-together day. We'll check on resort security and what we need to do to (if anything) to get people in to our unit, and let you know by phone or something.

Oh, that was annoying - lovely little hotel, close to downtown Collingwood, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, rooms still available ... and they only take MasterCard. I'll do more searching at lunch.

Rob, thanks for the offer, but I've spent the past few days in hospital and I'm just trying to put my life back together now.

Hope everyone has fun, and I'll try to make it to the next meetup.

I should check the forums more.
Alas, my car broke something too expensive to fix last week, and since I live in suburban wilderness, it's a 2 hour walk just to the nearest store and back. Sad
It would be nice to meet people, but sadly, I'll probably have to pass. Have fun, though!

Thanks, we'll try. Would've been nice to press you on "Dead Bang" in person, though.

On the subject of breaking cars, I sympathize. I just had to have our brakes fixed this morning -- say goodbye to US$650 of the vacation budget. (Have no fear, Rob et al., we're not bailing on the vacation.)

Heh. I'm still wanting to continue Dead Bang. I'm just stuck with an odd form of writer's block. I know what I want to do, but because I've been out of work for almost two years now, every time I sit down to write, I feel this massive guilt that I'm not looking for work. It kinda disrupts the flow. I'd love to find a workaround and write again. But it's always in the way.
I'm tempted to see if Rob would be okay if I tagged along. Just gotta scrape up the money for the hotel stay... I'd love to go. And ironically, it's not like I have a lot of demand on my time right now. Smile
Oh, on a totally unrelated note, I thought I'd plug my online forum game again. Big Grin While I know some of the forum members had a bad experience, I'd certainly welcome any of them back if they wanted to return as well. I'm a totally no-grudges kind of guy. It's just how I'm built. So if they were interested in checking it out, I'd welcome them back. Or anyone else that wanted to play. For the benefit of the others, who had major problems with the game system and the way things were going then, the game system is actually replaced with something different now, and is much easier to work with. For the most part, it's Stat + Skill + d10, with stats and skills being no higher than 1-10. For instance, I often refer to bad guys in combat as "Bad Guy: 4+4, with +2 Leadership." That summarizes everything there is to know about that guy. And it makes for much faster combat resolution. Individual target locations have gone bye-bye, in favor of a generalized armor and hit point value. While mecha combat still uses hit locations, I've built in so many ways players can fight on mecha scale without using mecha that I expect less than half of the players will actually use giant robots or fighters in space combat. Most of the others will be using mecha-scale powerups.
Currently the PC's are in a kind of AD&D universe which crosses the 80's Flash Gordon movie with Spelljammer. They're on Terrence's adopted homeworld fighting three Iczer enemies, while trying to form an alliance with local AD&D worlds to fight off an evil Sentai Team which has taken over the local cluster. Notable allies include a nearby alliance which has been heavily influenced by a Terran with a copy of Galaxy Quest, a (semi) reformed Reaper who jumped to this reality from the Mass Effect universe, and a PC who's just independently invented Escaflowne. Smile
Anyone interested, the site is http://gamers.romanus.ca. And if any of the older players are interested, I have forum access, and can reset passwords if you need me to.

Unfortunately, I have a wedding to go to on Saturday, and coming into Ontario isn't a possibility. Have fun without me, and I'll try to find someway of getting there the next time.

Rob has graciously offered to take me along when he drives down, so I'll be able to be there as well. I'll bring my current DB notes on my laptop, including the half-written chapter 8.

And it was a great afternoon/evening yesterday, guys. Thanks for making the trip just to see us. For those who are interested, we had a cookout, beer drinking, dramatic readings, "no shit there I was" story recitations, and there are two new Warriors Academy students (still unnamed) who will be getting cameos in a flashback somewhere. All four of us had a great time. Thanks again.
