Anyone used it yet? And why would anyone want an SSHD?

I can't speak for the Seagate ones in particular, but I can tell you why you might want one:
Solid State drives are great for putting your OS and frequently used programs on, because they have a much greater read/write time than Disk drives. Storage capacity still pales in comparison to Disk drives, which is the main reason they haven't completely taken over the market. So you'll still want a disk drive if you want more than 64/128GB of space. But they make things go really fast, booting in particular.

In enterprise storage, we used to have two levels of performance: "Tier 1" (the expensive, fast-spinning drives with fast I/O hardware) and "Tier 2" (the slow, inexpensive drives like the ones you can buy for home PCs).
Then SSHDs came along. We had to establish a "Tier 0" for them.
Yes, they're that good.

Okay, I can see that. But do you need to replace the motherboard to accomodate it? I bought a Cyberpower PC 3 years back.

You shouldn't need to replace the motherboard. Just make sure the SSHD has a SATA interface, not a FC interface ("Fibre Channel", used only in enterprise disk arrays).
Heck, you can buy "drop-in" SSHD replacements for laptop HDDs nowadays.

I have a SATA 2.5" SSD as my "primary" (read: OS and apps) drive here. The only programs I don't use it for is my Steam library. It's fast. I can boot up in about 20 seconds, from cold. As long as a system has a SATA connector, it should work.
The only issue with them is storage size - you typically have to pay enough for even 512GB that you really will want a system to have TWO drives, with the other one being a "traditional" HDD to serve as data storage. I actually prefer to do this anyway, because it makes data slightly more "portable" if I replace the system.

What JF said. I invested in a "hybrid" drive for my laptop's system drive, and got a big boost in boot time and operation speed (due to improved swap file performance). This was when actual SSDs were still prohibitively expensive, but the "hybrid" drive sort-of emulates some of the benefits of an SSD by using a fhuge cache and some clever look-ahead algorithms. My OS and executables mostly reside there.
My "storage" drive is a standard 3T HD that replaced my optical drive (no, it's not porn, you perverts, I've got gadzillions of work files stored up from nearly 20 years of doing the same job).

We don't ask. You don't tell.
