All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part VIII

The only time something should be cleansed to that degree is if someone was left gibbering in the corner for days because it triggered one of their traumas. Otherwise, evidence should be left as to what had to be reverted/deleted.

Why have you not *banned* this joker?

Well, that's my first reaction anyway.

I personally just think Doc doesn't really do a good job of explaining himself as it's previously just been accepted per the last few years of letting him get on with it.

I just continue to hold reservations about rushing to a kind of elimination vote. Now that he's been warned that he shouldn't do it in the particular way he has, we just have to wait and see whether he messes up again, then we can talk about taking further action.

I'm not saying Doc is innocent, I just don't think we should be making a pariah this early.

I'm the first to admit Doc's self-admitted behaviour is pushing one of my hot buttons - I wasn't even thinking of proposing removing his admin privileges until he agreed that he had been removing and re-creating pages.

If I'm overreacting, please tell me.

I think overreacting would be too much of a strong term, I think what's going on here is Doc obviously thought he was A-OK to do what he was doing because none of us ever really raised it as an issue and because he mostly dealt with Geth, now that we are aware; we want to make sure it doesn't happen again.

If he proceeds to continue after this as such, then I have no means to object. So far he said that he'll stop, if he's not telling the truth; we'll find out.

That sounds fair. I'm willing to take Doc at his word.

Radical change of topic, to lighten the mood.

Yay! I finally got to use "egregious" in-context on a brand-new Work page!

Too bad that what's egregious is Clothing Damage, but you can't have everything...

I hate it when somebody abuses my trust.

http://allthetropes.org/w/index.php?ti ... =0&oldid=0 - deleted with the listed reason "Double", but the copy deleted had a comment from somebody who is not DocColress and the copy kept has content from only DocColress.

Give him a one-month loss of admin rights?

Doc gave his response to Rob here, something about the contributor hiding it himself or some shit. At this point I'm going tired of the entire situation and just want it resolved one way or another.

After seeing this, I'd be fine with indefinitely stripping him of mod rights unless he learns to humble himself.

I'm getting annoyed at him myself, especially the snarky way he seems to treat the other admins as if we're invaders on his playground. Nuke his admin rights.

In effect, he's explicitly stating that because other admins have tried to stop him from being autocratic on a TVT level, that we are autocratic on a TVT level.

Yes how dare we have public discussions about the proper use of admin authority. His explanation checks out to me as correct, but unwise.  Anyway, I'm acting on my own authority to approve my own suggestion of two weeks.  I figure this is a good split-the difference between Rob's suggestion and yesterday!Rob's suggestion.  And because it still doesn't strike me as that much of a punishment.  Also because it's super easy to remember that April = restore admin.  I'm a simple person, really.
In other news, UserBig Grinai-Guard is back for real.  I've rewritten the stack below Dai-Guard, so that I'm handling the API requests directly.  This works around the failures of MediaWiki::API entirely.  And it's much faster, because I can fetch an entire category's page texts in one request.  So if you have complex editing jobs or sets too large for MassEditRegex, you can ask me to do it.  I'll publish the source code soon enough, you know, once all of the modules aren't all in one file.

I have mirror imaged this policy on the ATT Wikia fork.

Also, I purposely did not ask for my mod bit back before because I wanted this crisis to be resolved first without me being forced to take any sides as an admin (on ATT Miraheze, where I feared I would be unable to remain impartial if so), and now that it's over, I would like to ask for my mod hat back, with the consent of the other admins, pursuant to whatever judgment, restrictions, or conditions they may have for me getting it back.

Would you be willing to wait for two weeks, Geth? I don't want Doc thinking he was forced to not have a say in the matter.

Can I tell him to stop being a whiny pussy and that losing admin for two weeks isn't the end of the world. fucks sake.

You can, but it's not going to make much of a difference.  We're still in "someone is wrong on the internet!1!!" mode.
EDIT:  If anyone feels like a project, here's an invocation you can use to get pages that don't use the {{NoRealLife}} template -- i.e. pages that don't explain why we're telling people not to post things.

How do we use that? with AWB? with regex?

I'm anything but an expert, but I suspect you'd just put it on a temporary page and look at what appears when you save or preview.

I think what I posted might work better - I hope.

But, hey, Talk pages are for Talk.

EDIT: And after I posted the above, I saw what he posted in the other thread.

It doesn't seem to be updating - I put the template on "Absurdly Youthful Mother" (the reason was on that page, just not in the template), but "Absurdly Youthful Mother" is still on the list after a page refresh.

Oh, and I have a few stock entries that cover roughly half the pages:
{{noreallife|Calling real-life people "evil" is an extremely bad idea.}}
{{noreallife|All The Tropes is not a gossip site.}}
{{noreallife|All The Tropes does not care to [[squick] its readers.}}

Purge works for that specific purpose as otherwise it's just the original cache.

So, what do we do when one of these pages has Real Life examples?

Should we just delete the real life section?
