All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part IX

That looks like the kind of javascript that makes me go "Time for a beating."

Bob, how much content did you contribute to TVT before you were kicked out? Maybe you should submit an invoice. If they pay, it would help pay for the new DW forum... <g>--

Some 600 pages... not even 1% of what was there when I left, and in some cases my original text was a single sentence or paragraph... but if they're claiming to be paying their contributors I should ask them what my share is.

So, where's that little notice at, anyway?  We need to make sure that the Wayback Machine has it archived before we say anything, so they can't deniably stalinize it before we call them on it.

ETA:  I just added lines about ads and ad-blockers to the "differences between TVT and ATT" grid on ATT's front page.  Why not play up another difference?-- Bob

I shall laugh my long, slow, wicked laugh for many minutes if you can nail them with that, Bob.  Big Grin

That's in the message it shows when I have noscript allow tvtropes.org but not the other domains they're grabbing scripts from, so it's not really amenable to that kind of archiving.

(And once again I'll say to a site, I'm not running an ad blocker, you bozos. Display your ads without javascript and they'll work just fine.)

BA -- Let me think on this.  I'd rather do it from home rather than from work, so it might not happen until this weekend.-- Bob

I'm sure there's a workaround per ublock origin that you merely have to add a filter, i've done it before with different sites.

Apparently you just need to update your filters.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have a mission for you all, should you choose to accept it:

See this page for example:

http://allthetropes.org/wiki/Video_Games/Awesome

You might notice a lot of examples that could be ported to subpages for their respective games on this page, or even better, we could get rid of a lot of repetition if they are already there.

There are some good reasons for doing this:

1. SEO from all those new pages.

2. Our pages look less terrible and more orderly.

Just a thought for you guys, and that's not the only page we could do this on.

Re: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part IX
For clarification, would we be deleting the content on the Awesome page, with the goal of moving all content to respective games pages as opposed to as a medium?

Mostly moving stuff that could go to it's own page to it's own page.

Would somebody be kind enough to do a bot replace, please? I'm not up to changing 412 links by hand.
Code:
s/www.animenewsnetwork.com/www.animenewsnetwork.cc/

Anime News Network was hacked on August 8. (I'm just learning this now.) This is the equivalent of our s/orain/miraheze/ not-so-long ago.--

User Talk pages appear to be broken. I tried accessing a pseudo-random subset of them and got "Fatal exception of type MWContentSerializationException", unless the Talk pages had no content yet.

I say "pseudo-random" because I only looked at new user pages.--

Age, perhaps? The error did come up on newer pages.--

Entry Pimp ho!  Someone amusingly named ?Massedit0987 is busy this morning shoehorning entries for the light novel series A Simple Survey into every trope page he can.  So far it all looks appropriate, but we may want to watch him and suggest he stop when his contributions start outweighing the source he's documenting.  <grin>-- Bob

I noticed that the page for A Simple Survey was a TVT copy, but posted by the original author. He really likes the series.--

It isn't just you. I've noticed delays across Miraheze lately - slow page loading, delayed addition of pages to categories, slow searches, and so on.

I don't know whether they're fending off occasional DDoS attempts that we aren't seeing, or whether the water bottle in the hamster wheel needs more caffeine.--
