It'll probably be turned into the standard TV-structure, 5 minutes of setup, 2 minutes of stuff, ad-break, 5 minutes recapping the previous segment, 2 minutes of stuff moving forward, ad-break..... Ten minutes entrtainment in an hour long slot type stuff.

There's also the millennia prior to The Hobbit that such a series could explore — loads of stuff from The Silmarillion, The Book of Lost Tales, etc. It still doesn't strike me as a GOOD idea, but it's not as obviously a money-grubbing bad idea as the initial headline made it sound.

From what I've heard, this is post Hobbit, pre LotR.
"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." - Aristotle
"Being told to be 'open minded' about something is usually a code for 'you're not going to like this, but I want to subject you to it anyway'. Conversely, being told that you are 'closed-minded' is generally a means of asserting that 'I don't like the fact that you're proving me wrong, so I will pretend that your failure to agree with my argument is a philosophical deficiency'." - RationalWiki
