Snort, This should be taken to politics so I can be honest about how I feel about this, but basically if that is you worry then you are crazy. While the psion does that and spends a significant portion of his daily resources the wizard uses one of the 6'th level spell slots he has no use for for 40d6 of damage, as a ranged touch attack and most of the char-op boards would consider it a waste of an action. Also Psions have far less casting resources than most other full casters, especially once you factor in items.

Also while it's possible to make build that can quicken each round it does come at a cost and not for free, since quicken requires the expenditure of psionic focus.

Please read this, this (the part on psions), and this to come accross as less of an....

Anyway take it to politics if you really want to discuss this.

I admit that I was slightly disappointed in that change between 3.0 and 3.5. I understand why they made the change, but it did take some of the flavor out of the class.

Also starting at like level 5 you get twice the power points for no reason. This makes 3.5 psion twice as powerful/dangerous as a wizard in raw terms of casting potential. You know the concept Linear Warrior/Quadratic Wizard... 3.5 psions are exponential growth characters that destroy the system.

Totally wrong and easily proven to be wrong.
Fact: A first level psionic power costs 1 power point to manifest at minimum effectiveness. Each new level of power requires an extra two points to manifest (at minimum effectiveness), right up to 17 power points to manifest a 9th level power.
Fact: 20th level Psions get 343 power points before factoring in bonus points for a high Intelligence.
Fact: If you convert a 20th level generalist Wizard's maximum number of first through ninth-level spells per day (minus any bonus spells) to spell points, you get 324 points. This is only 19 points fewer than a Psion receives, and the wizard gets the added benefits of cantrips, being able to learn spells beyond those which he gains when leveling, and powers with damage that scales with level. A 10th level Wizard's lightning bolt automatically do 10d6 damage. A 10th level Psion has to waste 5 extra power points to get his energy bolt to do the same. Specialist Wizards actually get more spell points than Psions. The disparity is much worse with Sorcerers, as they get the equivalent of 486 spell points per day before adding bonus points from a high Charisma.

3.5 disapating touch does Xd6 pionts of teleportation damage. as a touch attack.. where X is capped at your manifestor level... meaning at 20th level you can do 20d6 damage as a touch attack... with quicken power you can do 20d6 damage and 16d6 damage of the teleportation type as a touch attack every round AND you have twice the casting resources of any other class... for no reason.

Actually, since the Quicken Power feat requires six power points to activate, that second attack only does 16d6 damage and requires the character to lose his focus. Regaining his focus wastes at least a move action.
The attack also affects only a single target and requires you to enter melee to use. Why would a high level caster with d4 hit dice want to do that? I'd prefer a 20th level Wizard or Sorcerer with either wail of the banshee (9th-level,  multiple enemies have to save or die) or polar ray (8th level, same damage as the Psion, but done at a distance).
If I wanted to get really nasty, I'd make a Sorcerer who knows the greater arcane fusion spell from Complete Arcane. This 8th-level spell effectively lets a Sorcerer cast both a 7th and 4th level spell as part of the same standard action (without having to expend any additional spell slots). The Sorcerer would then be free to use his swift and move actions for other things. Compared to that, Psions just aren't that good at dishing out damage.

In short you touch people and the explode messily.... this is Fist of the North Star's description.... this is not a first level ability for anything but an Epic level prestige class.

Of course it isn't a first level ability, it is a 20th level ability. When you put only a single power point into it, the power does 1d6 damage. It is only when pumping 20 points into the power (which can only normally be done at 20th level) that it starts to become moderately impressive. Even then, there are much better ways to do 20d6 damage. That is like railing against Warlocks because an eldritch blast does 9d6 damage at 20th level, which is way too much damage for a first level class ability.

The premise is that Louise summons a familiar at the age of ten. This leads to her being aware of her type of magic before the start of the series proper (along with her familiar being effectively an uncle--he's around the age of her dad). There's a lot of nice setup (and implications that Louise's family have been able to leverage the familiar's knowledge for money and power, but the story proper has juuust started. Still, I'm going to be following this one.

Third in her series of Project stories, following Project Tatterdemalion and Project Asclepius, Project Thoughts is a slower paced and more character oriented continuation.  High quality, excellent characterization, and I mostly approve of the science*.  
(It is nice to see a 'viral transformation into monsters' gimmick that addresses the utter thermodynamic impossibility of such a thing.)  
Anyway, if I had an account on fanfiction dot net, which this is another strong impetus to get, I would comment there on the strong apparent compatibilities between this setting and her Walk Through the Valley Ruroken Sci Fi Very AU, which I also heartily endorse.
I wrote this the first real opportunity I had after reading the story, and my reading it as soon as I noticed was only delayed by RL concerns preventing me from noticing with my limited computer time.
*Note that I am an obnoxious jerk where the sciences and engineering are concerned, and sometimes have trouble using the appropriate level of response where fiction is concerned.

Was 'Defence for Two' originally adopted from "Detention in Defense", a one-shot by Perspicacity.

I've enjoyed Darth's writing previously (Bonds of Blood), as it feels very solid. However, his stories tend towards the Grim/Dark/Realistic end of the scale so they may not be for everyone.

Especially in this instance, as Perspicacity's original one-shot was light hearted - but 'Unspeakable' is definitely not. Slow build up, good world building and all buffs to characters (including Ron's 'Ok, Enough Stupid') make sense (at least to me) within the story - the violence isn't gratuitous. Harry gets his arse handed to him a lot so, its not God!Harry.

Heavy Mature/NSFW warnings. Violence - probably sex eventually, although not yet (chapter 33). Not for kids. Use spoiler if you want details.

ETA: The Boy Who Fell (completed) a Harry-less HP/Star Wars Expanded Universe crossover where Dursleybuse killed Harry at five, and things were looking quite dire until rising 6th Year student Luna Lovegood wished for someone to come and make everything better. Cue Ben Skywalker! Contains a lot of SWEU references, but not so many that I couldn't enjoy it even though I stopped following SWEU in disgust after _The Truce at Bakura_ and never read any of the Young Jedi Knights stuff let alone the Vong war, whatever that may have been.

In fact, even if you can't see anyhtihng but a trainwreck in the combination, or give it a try and find the first chapter makes your trigger finger itch, skip to Ch4 and read Gai's speech at the memorial stone from "I have many friends and family here" anyway. Harry Potter and the Children of Change - due to a time turner accident, Old Man HP finds himself back in his toddler body just after arriving at the Dursleys. He promptly sets about arrranging things to keep his life there from sucking, (ETA: In this he is spectacularly unsuccessful, I had confussed it a bit with the story I was reading immediately prior, of much lower quality) and by the time Hogwarts rolls around he's a metamorph with an average middle class home life. He is a bit on the random side from time to time, and at the Sorting discovers that somehow in this reality Lia Turpin is a seventh year and Tonks is in his year, instead of the other way 'round; she takes Ron's place in a Ravenclaw version of the Golden Trio. Various wacky hijinx ensue. Highly reccomended, I rate it 7 out of 10 house elf misadventures in a bathroom stall.
