Theodora Porphyrogenita (AD 980 – 15 April AD 1068) was a Byzantine Empress whose rule typically marks the beginning of the Dragon Era in most histories.  Born into the Macedonian Dynasty, which had ruled the Empire since AD 867, and the niece of the popular emperor, Basil II, she was the final ruler of that dynasty; upon her death, the empire fell into a period of decline from which it never truly recovered.  Noted as highly intelligent, capable, and possessing an extremely strict moral character, she spent the majority of her rule attempting to repair the damage inflicted on the empire by the mismanagement of her immediate predecessors.  During the nearly twenty-six years of her reign, she disciplined the feuding nobility and blocked numerous abuses.  However, her reign was also marked by considerable strife due to the growing chaos and conflict of the Dragon Era…

Aboard his ship, the Ashkelon, Viggo Grimborn makes good use of A Gift From The Heavens, and Heather tries not to look a gift horse in the mouth. In Nidaros, Queen Ruffnut watches, and helps a little, as her husband dispenses justice. Back on the Ashkelon, Hiccup lets Gunvor distract him from the pain of having his foot off by opening the much older wound of losing his mother. On Berk, Stoick chops firewood with probably unnecessary vigor, then answers Fergus' and Naoise's inquiries as to what's putting the vinegar in his strokes. On the Ashkelon again, Astrid and Heather, and then Wulfhild, discuss how thoroughly they were played. In London, Harthacnut finds out what he's about to be blamed for and decides to do something about it. In the Rouen synagogue, Rabid Dovid sees the traditional equation "two Jews, three opinions" rise to the level of opinions squared. In the Great Palace of Constantinople, Sigurd receives a promotion and starts preparing for what it will entail. In the Berk smithy, Gobber takes on some additional projects. Finally, in Vedrarfjord, Hákon welcomes the Ashkelon as it brings his wife and family, and prepares (as best he knows how) to negotiate recompense with Viggo.

Malicean's Welcome to the Club has updated, but I'm not sure how long it's actually been since I had to step back about half of the chapters before hitting something I sorta vaguely recognized, and decided to start over from the beginning, when Luke sets his hyperspace coordinates by the feel of the Force when leaving Dagobah and nearly smears his X-Wing against the Executor's hull on emergence. Needless to say, capturing him doesn't go how anyone on either side expected it would, and to say that "shenanigans ensue" is like saying "space is big," or "Wookies have hair." Pre-Disney continuity I believe, currently 129k words.
