Could somebody who understands JS code take a look at MediaWiki:Gadget-smartLinking.js , please? This is now the only page in Category:Pages using invalid self-closed HTML tags
Given the other pages that were in that category, I wouldn't be surprised if this script is responsible for generating some bad HTML on the wiki. I see six cases in the code which appear to me to be attempts to self-close a "span" tag, which IIRC is against the HTML specification for that tag.

Why do we have "Category:Pages Needing Disambiguation" and "Category:Multiple Works Need Separate Pages" - especially considering the former is empty except for a link to the latter?
I'd like to update the Community Portal to point to Multiple Works Need Separate Pages instead of the current Pages Needing Disambiguation, then delete Category:Pages Needing Disambiguation. Any objections?

We've discussed this in the past int he Forums, but I'd like to make it more visible. Does anyone have any objection to posting this as a sitenotice?

I created both of them several years apart, and in my mind, at least "pages needing disambiguation" is not exclusive to works. "Multiple Works Need Separate Pages" is a subcategory of "pages needing disambiguation", and the link from the one to the other is more of a shortcut to a similar task with slightly different needs than a statement they are synonymous.
Also, "Pages Needing Disambiguation" is a "needs attention" category that is added to pages when the {{Needs Disambiguation}} template is added to them. It's implemented on the community portal page like other "trouble" categories (broken links, Examples Needing Verification, Examples Needing Context), and if you delete it you will need to delete or revise the template and the portal page.

Yes. I see them as different tasks with a lot of overlapping but not identical needs.

Done. If no recaps are added to the relevant pages, this will affect pages for installments of Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball, Arrested Development (TV series), Attack on Titan, Bob's Burgers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Camp Camp, Friendship Is Witchcraft, Gunnerkrigg Court, How I Met Your Mother, Jimmy Two-Shoes, The Legend of Korra, One Piece, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Regular Show, Rick and Morty, RWBY, Schlock Mercenary, The Simpsons (animation), South Park, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Star Wars Rebels, and The X-Files.
I've also added a mention to the the category page that Wikipedia has recaps and uses the same license ATT does.

Fair enough.
Since they're related, let's at least put the two sections next to each other on the Community Portal page.

Do we really not have a policy document about images? I don't see one in the All The Tropes namespace
I was hoping we did, so I could point Cosmic Osmo at it. ( Note the lack of description or license here.)

I've added the appropriate points to the "Upload an Image" page.
We should still put together a policy page or section somewhere, though.

I started writing one, a long time ago, but never finished it. I don't even remember where I stashed my working copy now.
ETA: Whatever happened with that extension that was supposed to force the selection of a license before allowing an image to be uploaded?

Anyone ever hear of a TV series called Rocky, apparently about a boxer, but not Stallone's character? Jason Taylor just added an example to Pressure Points citing the series, but I can't find any show by that name anywhere, other than a series of CGI shorts made in Sweden ten years ago. And being who he is, Taylor just linked the work name to the "Rocky" disambiguation page.
ETA: Oh, and I commented out the example until we can get some evidence that this show is real. You'll need to edit the page or look at the history to see it.

When I hear "TV series called Rocky", all that comes to mind is "and Bullwinkle". Sorry.
EDIT: There's no mention of such a show at Wikipedia's disambiguation page for "Rocky", either.

I left him a note on his page asking for more information, but this is Jason Taylor we're talking about -- remember the trouble we had getting him to acknowledge even ban warnings on his usertalk page. If he doesn't reply soonish, I'll just nuke the example.

It's been less than a week since that went up, and IIRC one-third of the pages that needed recaps now have them. Go figure.

I've edited all of the wiki's links with the prefix http://imdb.com or https://imdb.com to point at https://www.imdb.com instead, and (because they were on one page) also pointed over 800 of the links to http://www.imdb.com at https://www.imdb.com instead.
Could somebody do a bot run to point the remaining 1200+ links with the prefix http://www.imdb.com at https://www.imdb.com , please?

Geth, Brent, and Bob, as the wiki's founders, one of you needs to re-write this page - unless there's been a major policy change that I didn't hear about.

It wasn't quite as bad as you made it sound, Rob. I did a pass on it back in April and removed a lot of "we have ads" language; I just appear to have missed a single parenthetical. I've removed it, as well as the text you commented out, and added a bit more here and there.

So. I understand that Tumblr is in the midst of a meltdown/flight of users because of the imposition of a dracnoinan censorship regime a couple days ago. Could someone who actually knows something more about Tumblr than I update our article accordingly? Oh, and we'll need to check if Fuck No TVTropes needs the {{MIA}} tag or not.

I don't have access to the Wiki. But it'll take too long to explain, so I'll sum up.
Tumblr's ultimate corporate master - Verizon - decided several months ago they want the place to be "advertiser friendly" - read: the porn's gotta go (which is not the majority of the content there). Said timetable apparently got moved up when, among other things, Apple canned the phone app because unregistered child porn (isn't in the hash database people use for taking it down) was showing up (the excuse from Apple, anyway). This is already bad enough, especially since today is an Awareness Day, specifically regarding violence against sex workers, who used the site as part of their advertisement setup.
It was made worse by rolling out a flagging algorithm a few weeks ago that was so NOT ready for prime time it makes YouTube's ContentID system look like it generates no false positives at all. Pictures of beaches and sand dunes flagged? That's just scratching the surface. It doesn't seem to be all the site, just parts that may or may not have had inadvertent exposure to the adult side of the club.
Oh, and they've been leaving the nazi-leaning stuff alone, which has been gaining more and more of a foothold the past couple of years and threatening to start turning the place into a Twitter-style trashfire. Plus, when they roll out automated algorithms to flag content as "mature/unsafe"? It tends to hit otherwise safe-for-work LGBT disproportionately, even when it's working correctly, in part because of automatic straight assumptions being made about what being "out" means, and that we're viewed as being overly sexually driven folks (not any more so than anyone else, as it turns out, it's only different because it's really hard to find others in the LGB part of that, so we tend to make ourselves very visible when we're out).

One is a warning to the reader that by the very nature of the page its contents will include unmarked spoilers.
The other is a maintentance alert much like {{cleanup}} indicating that the page has spoilers that should be hidden and aren't.
They also apply different categories to their pages: "Unmarked Spoilers" for the reader warning, "Pages with Unmarked Spoilers" for the maintenance alert.
Contrary to my earlier stance, I'm thinking now that we shouldn't merge these... but maybe rename the maintenance alert to something a little more indicative instead. How do {{spoilers need markup}} or even just {{fix spoilers}} sound?
That's a good idea, makes sense. The two template names are fine, but I prefer {{fix spoilers}}.
For the categories applied, the one for the maintenance template should be renamed to something different, like "Pages Needing Spoiler Markup".
The unmarked spoiler templates I added to some pages were meant as a warning to the reader.
Okay, finally got around to this after ten months. {{Unmarked Spoilers}} is the user warning, {{fix spoilers}} is the maintenance alert. There is no {{Unmarked spoilers}} template any more.
However, in the process of doing this, I realized that we also have two different "how we do spoilers" pages -- All The Tropes:Style Guide/Spoilers, and All The Tropes:Handling Spoilers. The latter is where "Spoiler Policy" redirects, while the former is the target for the shortcuts ATT:SPOILER and ATT:SPOIL. These have a fair amount of overlap; or to be more precise, they both seem to descend from the same source document, given some very similar text between the two, but they've branched out in different directions. I've added crosslinks between the two, but it might be worth examining them to see if it's a good idea to merge them (back?) into a single document.
We also have a couple user-created spoiler-warning templates that were made for the various Gunnerkrigg Court recap pages back in April or thereabouts, based on the now-gone {{Unmarked spoilers}} template. I've started the process of bringing these more into alignment with the visual style of {{Unmarked Spoilers}} but the database just got locked for maintenance and I won't be able to finish the job until that's done.

I've been cleaning up pages that use categories that should be inserted by templates (usually by adding the templates), and I came across Meta Humor. The definition that's there as I post this doesn't match any definition of the term that either I or Wikipedia are aware of, even if it did match what the rest of the world calls "meta humor" it's barely enough to put on a Laconic page, and there's no list of examples.
Move to Trope Workshop or delete outright?
(EDIT: Oh, yes: lists of pages that use categories that should be inserted by templates. Feel free to help.)
