Happy New Year, everyone!
If it's past 18:30UTC on December 31, then the majority of the population is already in 2019. Here's the chart, courtesy of xkcd:
(And my thanks to Dave Watson for sharing with me the phrase that I used as the thread title.)

Oh, and the Rideau Canal is already open for skating. It's rare that opening day is in December.

Meanwhile, here in San Antonio, it's supposed to hit 65 (18.3) degrees....
...with an overnight low of 37 (2.7).
Welcome to Texas.
EDIT: Mouseover text reads:
"The biggest jump is at 11:00am EST (4:00pm UTC) when midnight reaches the UTC+8 time zone. That time zone, which includes China, is home to a quarter of the world's population. India and Sri Lanka (UTC+5:30) put us over the 50% mark soon after."

Since I traditionally go to bed early, I'll pass along my new year's greetings now. May it be an improvement on the old, for all of us.

I just went from 70's and beautiful in Florida, back to 30's and crummy in Rochester. Wish me luck for the new year.

you must have been in South Florida, which to us in the northwest part of the state is anything south of tampa/st petersburg or gainsville depending on if you're a gators fan, or a seminoles fan

Meet the new year, same as the old year. But with global warming, we won't get cooled again.
