The Guardian opinion: 'You're fired!' America has already terminated Trump

When the public fires a president before election day, as it did Jimmy Carter, Nixon and Herbert Hoover, they don’t send him a letter telling him he’s fired.

They just make him irrelevant. Politics happens around him, despite him. He’s not literally gone but he might as well be.

The op-ed is clear that this is about Trump, not the Republican Party:

Senate Republicans are quietly subverting him. Even Mitch McConnell told him to end the shutdown.

Hey, with all the free time he has in being a figurehead, maybe he can work on his waistline.

I'd wait to see what happens in the vote to oppose the emergency declaration on The Wall before drawing those conclusions. The Speaker said she will bring it up for a vote in the House, and when it passes the law triggers an automatic vote in the Senate. Which means everyone will be on the record about it. I'm not convinced there's 66% opposition to the emergency declaration in either house. It may have the net effect of shoring up support for Trump in this Congress, while forcing people to take an unpopular position that could hurt them in the next election.

I'd also say that Trump is still the axis around which American politics is turning (which I guess makes the White House staff the eyewall). While the Green New Deal and other policy proposals are out there in non-binding resolution form, the majority of the news is Trump doing stuff and people reacting to it.

yeah don't count your chickens and all that Trump's 289 accomplishments (not counting the wall) is likely to keep him in office, the Republicans in the Senate and take back the House. Here is the list per the Washington Examiner

That is just a couple of the things his policies have done for us. Labster is right to wait and see, but i'm optimistic over 2020 because the Democrats have really stuck both their feet in the muck with this lean even further towards Socialism, and with as much as they seem to be racing to the left to appease the younger vote crowd, they are going to likely drive off the older, more conservative democrats who will either not vote, or vote for Trump and the Republicans
