New Fic Recommendations vs. MechaGodzilla II

Willow -- A Buffy crossover which takes a few chapters to reveal the actual crossover. Only six chapters so far, but it's very well written and I'm both tracking and recommending it on TtH.

I went looking for some old material by Nick "Nightelf" Liefker that I wanted to read again, and discovered his fanfiction.net page, where he had stories from well after the last time I saw him on the FFML. I just read two of them, both Harry Potter stories, and I wanted to recommend them:
Black Phoenix (Harry fled the Wizarding World and made a life for himself in the Muggle world while Voldemort conquered and took over. But when his family is killed, Harry comes back with a vengeance.)
and
L'Heritier de le Fay (It's been four years since Draco Malfoy's attempt to break Harry resulted in him being permanently turned into a girl... and something else. In those four years Harry has hidden away while the second war against Voldemort ended much like the first -- with no real change in the halls of power. It's time for her to come back.)

I remember when this one was posted on TFF... I loved it. Would enjoy seeing more like it.

Moczo wrote a RWBY story!
Yeah, that pretty much explains it.

I'd like to rec Potter Who and the Wossname's Thingummy.
It is an excellent Doctor Who/Harry Potter crossover, and as none of my attempts to summarize it are coming out right, I'll just post the author's summary:
Quote:No TARDIS, no screwdriver, and no memory - on the plus side, an owl and a wand! May or may not be AU. "It's all in the mind, you know."

I'll second the recommendation. It is excellent.

Oh, I am so reading that to Peggy, if only for the narrative voice!

Author of such BGC fics as " No Armour Against Fate"
Currently he seems to write other things like white wolf stories however.

Exclusive by copperbadge
"After the second Avengers mission, the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division, which oversees their activities, decided that "no publicity" was no longer "good publicity". S.H.I.E.L.D. wanted public exposure: a long, in-depth human interest piece that would answer the public's questions about who our newest heroes are.
Why I was chosen was a mystery at first. When a massive, secretive intelligence agency asks for you by name, you don't ask too many questions in return. I was simply told by S.H.I.E.L.D. to present myself at Stark Tower at five pm on Wednesday, and to stay -- living with, eating with, and sharing the lives of the Avengers -- for two weeks."
This is written as an in-universe piece for a news magazine, set after the recent Avengers movie. It's pretty incredible, one of the best pieces of fanfic I've ever seen.
Now, fair warning if you go read some of this author's other work - I haven't, but it's evident he's the type that likes writing romantic pairings and stuff like that. Not everyone's cup of tea. But this story? This story doesn't go there - it's just a straight up awesome piece set after the movie. Obviously it's all character-driven, of course.
There's a clever stinger at the end. I won't spoil it.

Yeah, that was definitely a fun way to waste an hour.
Especially the [REDACTED]. And Steve's reaction to Someone Being Wrong On The Internet.

Just finished the first story in copperbadge's Chaseverse.
Very nice little piece. A serial-killer targeting artists gets Neal Caffery and the White Collar team involved, and Sherlock wants to play.

Arc (A Worm fic centered on an OC, Complete)
----------------------------------------------------
"Anyone can be a winner if their definition of victory is flexible enough." - The DM of the Rings XXXV
Something a little different. I have become a Star Citizen fan in recent weeks.
Part of the universe-in-development process as the game develops involves a great deal of fiction being written both by game staff for canon backstory and pledgers to flesh-out the wider Star Citizen universe. This is known as 'Lore'. RSI is actively encouraging the community to add to this 'Lore' (and debate it) with extensive writers guides and 'Lore Builders'.
Because of the early stage of development, anything that gets the thumbs up from the forum community and game staff is being incorporated into the game's background and history and may inspire NPC's, concepts, missions etc. within the Persistent Universe later on.
The quality of the canon 'Lore' is high and the presentation diverse - I haven't got to the fanfictions yet... but it's definitely worth looking at for new Sci-fi to read!

In particular, I recommend the official short story The Lost Generation - the other Star Citizen work is good, but this one was really good. It's about an archaeologist/treasure hunter on the trail of a colony ship that vanished centuries ago under AI guidance - considered one of the defining reasons why nobody trusts AI for piloting and navigation in the present day of the Star Citizen 'verse.
The lore entries are also fun. These include both an official writer's guide 'story bible' style of entry, and ones that are played entirely in-character, such as news stories, police dispatches, radio transcripts, and so on.
The fanfiction is a little more of a mixed bag. Some is good, some...isn't. That's probably odd of me to say, considering I wrote a lore entry that the devs spotlighted on the page and might include in the game. But let's be honest, fanfiction is fanfiction. It's always going to be mixed.
(EDIT: I realise, on reflection, that probably sounds like I'm putting down other Star Citizen fans. I'm not. I'm pretty sure they only picked my bit because I addressed something that nobody else did. I'm just pointing out most fanfiction is of dubious quality, including mine.)

Marvel Movie-verse. In the aftermath of the Chitauri attack, Loki is part of a diplomatic party from Asgard to Earth, assigned to help Tony Stark and Jane Foster rebuild the Bifrost. Needless to say, things get Complicated when AIM notices who's come to visit.

Re: Witch Maiden
Is there any explanation as to why the author uses bullet points (•) instead of the normal double quote marks (") to delimit conversation? It twigged my ocd enough that I couldn't get through the first chapter.

Might be a case of ESL. I know at least one person who uses Tildes for a very similar reason.

It's only in the first chapter, so I think it was an editing error he never bothered to correct.
