[OOC] Voices: who plays who
12-17-2020, 09:55 PM
(This post was last modified: 08-27-2022, 07:06 PM by robkelk.)
Quote:"Remember that I showed everybody one episode of the anime that was made about you, and everyone complained about the voices being a little bit wrong?"
"You said it was because we weren't in this universe, so they had to use voice actors instead."
But they're only a little bit wrong... so the seiyuu should sound similar to the displacees, even if they aren't exact. Ne?
For reasons, I made a list of who's shown up so far.
EDIT: Out-of-date list snipped - see post #8 in this thread for something that's a little more up to date.

Wow. Thanks for doing that work, Rob... that's going to come in handy for the back end of my little story.

No problem. Bob. As I said, "For reasons" - that was one of them
I just realized that Akiko Hiramatsu and Michie Tomizawa should be on the three-characters-each list instead of the two-characters-each list, assuming that the Knight Sabers actually are in the Metacontinuity somewhere.

Just as an aside, this is why I hate the US dubbed anime so much. 177 Japanese VNs (and this isn't even a comprehensive list!) versus the 70 English Dub voice actors that are listed on IMDB. The talent pool is so very small compared to the veritable cornucopia of Japanese VNs, and so we wind up with teenagers who sound like they're thirty years old. Never mind that there's so much young talent here in America that is looking for any kind of break that isn't Disney and they can be paid much less than some of the veterans.

And a silly thought - Have Mii be interviewed by a journalism student for her homework - said journalism student being Lisa Vanette. Just to bump Aya Hisakawa's role list up to seven.
Okay, maybe not. Unless I can come up with a better reason for it to happen.

Bumping because we I need to update this, given that we have a few more characters in the Metacontinuity now.
Depending on just who was at that Halloween party that Akari and Aria attended, Kaori Mizuhashi might have tied Aya Hisakawa as the hardest-working seiyuu in TMB. Mizuhashi-san played Mami in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Taeko in Ai Yori Aoshi, Rosetta in Kaleido Star, and Yuuno in Lyrical Nanoha - so a guaranteed four roles there. Characters not yet appearing that she's played include Sein and Vivio in Lyrical Nanoha, Tatsuya Kaname in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Pepper in A Little Snow Fairy Sugar, and Ai and President Hime in Aria.

This should be of use, too - a visual guide as to who plays who, after school.

Post-retcon update - some characters have been added, some have been removed.
Note that this list is incomplete, because I haven't gone through all of the dozens of Girls und Panzer characters and I don't have actor information for the two video games that Labster is adding to the Metacontinuity.
Thus. I'll skip posting the "one role" list for now.

Iori Nomizu only has one canon role in the Metacontinuity: Febrie, from A Certain Scientific Railgun. However, it's logical to assume she should also voice Febrie's identical-twin Janie, who had no lines in canon.
Satomi Satou only has one canon role in the Metacontinuity: Ritsu Tainaka, from K-On!. However, because [REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED] also voices Takara, who was about to be introduced into the setting before the retcon put new stories on hold until the old stories have been updated.
Three roles:- Ai Orikasa: Fujieda Ayame (Sakura Wars), Reiko Amagi (Steel Angel Kurumi), Ryoko Hakubi (Tenchi Muyo!)

Six roles:
As the Bruces philosophers almost told us, there is no list of six.
Seven roles:- Aya Hisakawa: Skuld (Ah! My Goddess), Arisa Sono (All-Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku), Kerberos (Cardcaptor Sakura), Sarah Dupont (Kaleido Star), Lindy Harlaown (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha), Miki Kaoru (Revolutionary Girl Utena), Ami Mizuno (Sailor Moon)
Once Starfleet shows up and Washuu-chan and Ami debug the LMH, Hisakawa-san should also voice Ami's holographic double Akemi Zimmerman. And if we ever do anything that needs reporters, add her canon role of Lisa Vanette from Bubblegum Crisis to the list as well.
* These people get one more role each if the Knight Sabers are in the Metacontinuity.
