3) Might even be neither, 'sent' and 'cent' are noticeably different from eachother and from 'scent'. May be accent dependent though, and require a good ear and paying attention.
4) They might. They might not. Might even be that both of them were unplanned.
5) Because both the 'v' and the 'w' descend from the letter 'u'. Alphabets aren't static.
6) It is actually, oxidative stress is a thing.
7) But at least you move the dirt to somewhere it's not a problem.
8) Only with certain fonts. Certainly not with the font used in this book. Similar, yes, but not the same.
9) And requires just as much luck and people skills.
10) Unless you have neither, or both.

14) It's known the eyesight of many domestic animals degrades as they age, very much like humans. Most animals in the wild simply don't survive such disability.
15) But it's no more whole.

In fact, in French, it actually is "double-v".

Wrong Country, Darjeeling-chan.... (For those unwilling to click, the lovely commander of St. Gloriana's British-themed sensha-dō team is cosplaying the USA's Statue of Liberty.)
The note on the cover of her tablet was alleged by one site to translate as "Aphorisms." It doesn't match the kanji for that word in my Japanese-English dictionary, though.

"Oh, my people had many gods. There was Conformity, and Authority, and Expense Account, and Opinion. And there was Status, whose symbols were many, and who rode in the great chariot Cadillac, which was almost a god itself. And there was Atombomb, the dread destroyer, who would some day come to end the world." — Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen, H. Beam Piper
