That's technically the genre of Whateley Academy which I personally enjoy but there are several provisos I'd have to make to anyone not familiar with it. 1. Genderbending. All the main writers are very keen on that. (Although as a note, Diane Castle, who writes SRoAM is one of those writers).
2. It's dying if not dead with several writers having quit. (Although there's an enormous amount written by this point).

As the set-up: Whateley Academy is an exclusive New England boarding school which secretly trains young superhumans (largely mutants). It's the place to go if you want to be a superhero - or a supervillain, because it's a neutral ground which mostly avoids having bands of superheroes or supervillains turn up to put them out of business. A proportion of students are just there to learn how to be safe with their powers or for the opportunity to study at a very high level (most high schools won't teach you how to build a space shuttle) and have no interest in joining the spandex set.
