Maybe it's because I'm too old to have been a fan of the TV show (as opposed to The Secret Return of Alex Mack), but I feel like I'm missing something key to understanding the joke here.

Oh, I knew that... thanks to The Secret Return at least, if not the few promos for the show I'd seen over the years before that. I just didn't make the conceptual leap the joke required, mainly I guess because I wouldn't think of her involuntarily draining away somewhere.
