A dark cloud rolled out of the same streets Animos had exited. It moved to engulf both the animalistic cape and rolled towards the bulk of the Teeth.

Armsmaster analyzed the cloud. “Insects. It must be Weaver.”.

Neil pointed to shapes forming within the cloud humanoid forms that were distracting the Teeth.

“Definitely her. The unexpected help? Maybe the Undersiders?”

The cloud stretched to the heroes. It was thin around them but it was able to form a droning voice.

“Aid incoming, don't shoot him.”

“We won't,” Armsmaster answered.

A man flew over the buildings. He was wearing a blue full-bodysuit that only left his mouth to lower jaw uncovered. On his chest was a red letter U. He was tall, well over six feet.

Hemorrhagia changed one of her blades into a spear and tossed it at him. The man braced and screamed at her. The spear, her armor, and the other blade all collapsed into a spill of blood. At the same time, she was slammed into the ground and did not rise.

I found out what happened a little after I arrived back home, before Jeff had his little party in Miami. We'd all know the SRA, the Superhuman Registration Act, was something that different parties were fighting to make a worldwide concept. Many countries were fighting back and forth. America was massively split on it. Canada was all for it. Russia was completely against it.

Things had been on a tightrope for months. The rising number of heroes in such a rapid timeframe was a huge reason why. Since the Battle at the Triskelion and the rise of BRIDGE, dozens of heroes had risen up out of nowhere seemingly. Me, Luna Snow, Ares, The Winter Guard, and many many more.

Everyone agreed something had to be done. But no one could agree on what.

Then I disappeared. And while I was gone, everyone else had stepped up. Heroes across the world had gone on missions, fighting the good fight.

Luna, Ami, and Dan had taken down a group of the Korean Mob, arresting some guy named Eric Hong. Ares had defeated a sect of demon worshippers in Russia alongside Chernobog, both gods killing an Elder Demon in a knockdown dragout fight.

There were more. But in the time I'd left, one big event was on everyone's lips. And it wasn't good news.

It was said with the same calm, unshakeable poise and confidence that her Elder Sister always had, that even Mother couldn’t match in its simple elegant directness. Gu Xiulan felt her heart swell with confidence. “I will, Elder Sister. May I ask where we are going?”

“To the place where I found enlightenment in metal, and the purifying fire of the forge,” Gu Yanmei said. “I do not know that you will find any such here. Perhaps the things of the earth are not your fuel, but I can guarantee that there is fire aplenty here, for you to cultivate.”

She waved her hand, and the air to their left rippled like the horizon on a summer morning, revealing a path that was not there a moment ago, and the awful scent of sulfurous smoke on the wind.

Gu Xiulan crinkled her nose, but stopped herself from stepping back in disgust.

Her elder sister laughed lightly, and Gu Xiulan could not help but pout childishly. Of course she would react to that!

“A very small trial, I am sure you will surmount it,” Gu Yanmei said, beckoning her to follow. She did naturally. She was not going to be pushed back by a bad smell!

Even having only just met him, Ahsoka could tell that Luke was very much like his father. And there was no doubt that Anakin Skywalker was, indeed, his father.

Twins. Anakin’s children were twins.

Ahsoka glanced at where Morai had settled on a branch about a hundred meters away.

Twin children: a boy and a girl. In hindsight, she couldn’t imagine it being any other way.

She turned her attention back to Luke. Yes, he resembled his father, but Ahsoka was struck even more by just how much he was like his mother.

It was clear in how open Luke was to the world around him—in how easily Luke fell into meditation. Where Anakin had always taken some time to reach the proper state of mindfulness, it came so naturally to Luke. It reminded Ahsoka of how Padmé had focused herself before entering the Senate. In many ways, Padmé had been no less passionate or impatient than Anakin, but she had always been more adept at weathering her internal storm.

The manner in which Luke looked at her was also very reminiscent of Padmé, though in a way that was far more troubling. It was reminiscent of how Padmé had looked at Anakin.

Ahsoka would have to nip that in the bud. Somehow.
