How did this happen? DarkMatterMan4500 without membership in Automoderated created a brand new page in the Main namespace which just happened to be a complete cut'n'paste from TVT, with pretty much no effort at a conversion to MediaWiki markup. It wasn't sent to the mod queue.

I have deleted the page and I'm about to drop him a note, but what the hell happened here?

I haven't yet; I noticed something. As it turns out, DarkMatterMan4500 has been a member of the wiki since before the Moderation system (by a few months); he just was never grandfathered in. I wonder if that's why the Mod system isn't intercepting him, whether that's the way it should work or not. Anyway, I gave him temporary (24-hour) autopatrolled and automoderated. I'll let it expire and see if his edits go to the Mod Queue afterwards. If not, something bigger is wrong; otherwise, it's a less significant problem.

Regardless, once the experiment is over, I'll will grant those rights permanently as a belated grandfathering.

I’m not sure if we do checkusers off of gut feelings, but the posting style/interests of LNZOTTVK reminds me a bit of HLIAA14YOG. That said, I’m not very confident in this observation - It feels more likely to be them than a typical new user, but I’m not dead sure of it, or even 50/50 sure of it, if that makes sense.

It's him, just sent you the proof via PM. I'll deal with this myself.

Wow, the Lint Error estimates are off. As of this posting:

"Missing end tag" estimate: 11,609
"Missing end tag" actual: 3,179

I may have screwed up on prematurely naming works with a suffix. See discussion on the page for Dandadan, though it extends beyond it.

I don’t want to create extra work for anyone else as a result of my error. I would be happy to create corresponding works for other entries I have done this to in the near future to avoid creating extra work with moving pages, or otherwise work extra elsewhere to make amends.

Well, no matter what decision is reached, I'm going to have to re-write a policy page somewhere... in order to clarify what the Tropers want in this class of cases.

In the moderation queue there is a large deletion of content related to Katekyo Hitman Reborn pages without changes comments.

Would it be acceptable to leave a comment such as the following?

Quote:Hello,

Thank you for your recent contributions to Katekyo Hitman Reborn. I noticed that your edits included a large amount of content that was removed without comment. When removing tropes from an entry, please note your reasoning in the edit summary as to why it was removed per All The Tropes:Edit Reasons and Why You Should Use Them.

As it stands, your edits to Ho Yay in particular nearly blanked the page, including a structural template. This isn’t saying your opinions or edits are invalid, but removals of content have to be justified and done with care to avoid breaking site functionality. Additionally, while some of the examples you removed elsewhere were essentially zero context examples, removing them entirely or leaving them as just the trope name without context can also create problems.

I am rejecting your edits as they stand, but you are welcome to resubmit them with your rationale outlined in the changeset comment. Be advised that consecutive edits to the same page will overwrite the prior changeset comment if made prior to approval.

Thank you for your consideration and contributions. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Just posted. That said, Rob's reply better articulated the mechanics of why the edits were not good as they were made. (Thank you!)

This was a case of a new user attempting to censor opinion pages. Sloppily.

I was nice; I didn't ban "Hizer" for vandalizing the Ho Yay subpage. I did put him On Notice, though.

Without even looking at TVT, I'm thinking that the new page "Harriet the Spy/Characters" that's sitting in the Moderation queue is a direct copy from their page. three guesses why I think that...

… Are they trying to hot link TVT images for the page? When I read this I was expecting a simple copy and paste without formatting, but the amount of effort they are putting in to being wrong is actually kind of impressive.

Bonus points for leaving the default character templates intact at the bottom.

I'm not sure this is too relevant, but I did end up checking to see if the text was copied from anywhere else (Generally), and it was. Additionally it appears Tropedia has the same problem with a user adding the same or similar text to the same page, getting it reverted, and trying again.

Oddly, their only other edit in the mod queue is actually completely original. But yeah, we need to give NoobMaster169 a stern talking-to.

Do we have a trope for somebody stopping someone else's attempt to convince them because they're already convinced?

For example, the end of Jerry Maguire -- "Shut up. Just... shut up. You had me at "hello."" is even the work page's quote, but I don't see a matching trope for it in the work's trope list.

I don't think so. A quick search shows no tropes with any form of the word "convince" in their title, so there's nothing like "Stop Convincing Me" or "I'm Convinced Already" or "I Was Convinced Before You Started". And of course the Jerry Maguire quote isn't a page name either, although it could make for a good one.

I'm a little drowsy right now, though, so it's entirely possible there's something else appropriate that's not coming to mind, so I won't rule the possibility out entirely.

Okay, somebody else gets to fix these "Obsolete HTML tags" Lint Errors.

There are eight left on the list. Six of them are in "Template:T/doc" and are marked as coming from "Template:T".

One of the remaining two is in "Template:T" -- fixing that should fix the six that come from it. Do not simply copy over a new version of Template:T from Wikipedia because (if past performance is any indication) that will introduce more errors than it fixes. Somebody's going to have to fix the code.

The other error can't be fixed by mere mortals; it needs a code upgrade from MediaWiki, and I don't know enough about the code to be able to identify where the code needs a patch.

Before I reject JulyPink's edit to Happy Tree Friends/Characters, I want to make sure I understand the rules.

Do we want to describe a work (or, in this case, the characters from a work) as they were at a particular time, or do we want to describe a work as it changed over time?

I would say the latter. We don't pretend past portrayals never happened.
