Teaser For Chapter 6
03-07-2008, 08:50 PM
I watched in frank fascination as Belldandy simply picked up the
very mundane telephone and punched at least twenty digits into
its keypad. I resisted the urge to shake my head, but geeze, the
way Celestials did things in this universe. Every time I thought
I understood them, there was a new twist.
A *telephone* link to Heaven?
"Weird" just did *not* cover it.
But I made a mental note to try the redial if I had a chance.
(What? I had -- have -- more than a couple philosophical
questions about the nature of mortal existence that I think are
rather important, and if I could reach some kind of Customer
Service department, I fully intended to *ask* them.
Yes, politely.
Well, at least at first.)

Yeah, I can see that... I dont think anyone could resist at least considering being able to ask a few questions like that.
Hear that thunder rolling till it seems to split the sky?

Look at the dial and find that she probably dialed in "1NEEDT0TALKT0FATHERPLEASE" using the letters on the keypad.

Does the phone have a redial function? The manga showed a rotary phone.
The televangelists would be green with envy. A direct line to heaven.

Doug's not really paying attention to what she's actually using. He's thinking in terms of what he's familiar with.

And here I thought your answer was going to be "Would a technophile like Paradox settle for a rotary phone?"

I kind of expect Paradox to say, "Rotary phone? What rotary phone?" And the next time that Doug looks, there is no phone. The phone's just a
special effect of the Norns' communication method. Or, it's whatever type of phone that it needs to be for whomever happens to be using it.

We already have the place where we're going to split it marked out. We just have a roadblock -- an absolutely necessary scene that the muse refuses to talk to either of us about. We just have to finish that -- it's partially written -- and the last scene of what will become chapter 6.
As for a cliffhanger, will Paradox having an "aw, crap!" moment count?

It most certainly does. and that its the end scene rather explains why we havent had a stock split yet.
I seem to recall something the same happeneing to you two back in chapter 2 or so... the scene you were going to use for the split was the same that wouldnt
come out.

Well, what I do when I hit a bad sticking point is that I go out and get somebody's opinion. Usually something someone says will jar the creative
machine back into motion. Just a thought, ya know?

*Looks up at Bob with the copyrighted adorable giant watery eyes of cuteness. Yeah, it was a bitch to get through the red tape for those damn things.
Don't even ask about how much they cost.*
