And good that she is no catgirl... gravitonic amplified purring sounds like a good way to wreck everything around you. Wink

Good morning!

That's a scene of Awesome and needs to be written up as a story. (Go borrow a computer at your local library, if you can...)

Kouyou has to put conscious effort into affecting more than the air actually passing through her throat, so no, no accidental levitations or broken glass. She uses the levitation trick as a training excercise, though, and can in fact stage a bitchin' puppet ballet or fight scene, though the more items involved the less control over each one. Animating a puppet with mobile arms and legs takes ten... call them impulses, I guess, one push and one pull each for the body and each limb to control thier position.

Her unassisted mass limit is five pounds. Making a force field is three elements, a strong, planar but omnidirectional negative gravity field to push things away from the theoretical 'wall of force' and two bounding layers of mildly positive gravitation to make it diminish much faster than the normal distance squared, so it's not just another pressor beam tossing stuff wildly away... make it strong enough to contain atmospheric pressure and the air gets turned back every time it tries to expand and escape.

Given her voice throwing trick she can shatter any wineglass she can visualise the location of, with sound or plain force.

Moving the crowd was a matter of forming a forcefield floor to carry them inside the bubble to hold air, levitating a hundred separate things is a bit beyond her. By the time she does this trick, just to make it clear, all of the enemies who'd attacked the con concert hall had been tossed back out the hole, and anyone inclined to go fight had cycled out through the safety doors that

automatically closed when a hull breach was detected, even if she was fast enough off the mark with a field to keep the initial pressure drop from killing everyone immediately, and stop more than the first wave of attackers from entering. Her ninja road crew then kept them busy until she could grab and toss them back out the hole, and if that meant subjecting them to the stress of having an atmosphere's worth of tension pulling in two opposite directions as they pass through she wasn't inclined to feel

generous with armed men who just tried to kill her and everyone at the show. If it put them out of the fight for good, even better. After gathering everyone close she turned up the bubble to bulletproof (since doing it before shrinking it would raise the air pressure to match) and made the escape, because even if there was time to cycle everyone through the airlock before something worse happened the other side could lose pressure at any time also.

I will try to put together a full version sometime soon.

(goes back and reads) Man, and think that all came from a crack about having hired a ninja team as Sunshine Galaxy's road crew, then an idle thought about how the 'kage' in her name was the same as in the ninja title, but her sound/gravity 'ninjutsu' might actually make the Asteroid-nin believe it was justified... and she's a much more favorable leader for a 'Hidden Sound' than canon. Not being a Naruto fan she only got the reference after looking it up, and doesn't have a strong opinion about it, but will

point out in interviews if asked that while Marsbase Sara may be mostly underground it has nothing to do with producing rice, she only does Tai Chi Chu'an to stay fit and limber for her dance routines, and the only thing she leads besides the four backup members of her own band is the local Musician's Aid Society, which can lay down some dangerous licks when they get to jamming as a group but mostly consist of a gossip circle.

Ninja information specialists hear this and smile knowingly, of course.

Having examined the timeline a bit, I'm thinking that for Kouyou to be there for the SerenityCon gig, she'd have needed to come Up around 2012, and been one of the earlier intentional medical biomods. She is a bit powerful for a Season 0/1 backgrounder... It's a really good scene, though, and I hate to scrap it. Reaction has generally been positive, too, and it's not like I'm out to rip great holes in the setting in the name of leaving a mark... meh, just midnight thoughts, I guess.Literally

I don't mind a bit of power increase for biomods between Season 0 and Season 1, and the medical intervention helps support something that's more powerful than what is normally available.

(Digression: However, I do want a hard cap of some sort on the power levels of biomods. This, IMHO, is not a setting for characters like Superman or Ultraman... or Gojira.)

Between adventures in dental surgery and getting back into the mindspace for Dragonflight's PBP game my attention is kind of wandering, but I do have one more snippet for Kouyou - even a decade later, she doesn't like to talk about the Serenitycon incident. "It was very frightening, and since the Convention had to be continued by interwave I didn't get to finish the live concert... it was a rough beginning for Sunshine Galaxy," is her usual comment. Because even in the Future, not everyone is a badass.

I think that at least two of the convention programme streams (one physical, one Interwave) continued all the way to the advertised time and date for the Closing Ceremony.  One very important programme item was Noah's presentation of the Whole Fenspace Catalog.
Meanwhile, quite a lot of people worked on repair of the convention venue (and, for that matter, repair of the injured people and vehicles), and by the end there was little physical sign that the attack had taken place.
I could quite imagine, though, that for a lot of people, if they had anything to do with the convention, after the attack, it would be via the Interwave.  Attending the post-attack part of the physical programme via an Interwave-connected drone was almost certainly something at least some people did, rather than just watch a passive feed.  It's possible something like a parallel convention, such as has been done in Second Life, was run, or at least expanded, with each side being able to see each other on a large screen, a virtual one within the virtual world.

With a large part of an exterior wall gone, I don't think the concert hall could be returned to service that quickly, even if everyone stuck around to listen. Of course she did an interwave stream after being revived from her faint - come boskone or spacing The Show Must Go On - but playing for cameras in whatever space a ship could...

Wait. Refugees aboard the Gnarlycurl, which has an actual park inside. She could have finished it there, and kept people occupied to not panic or get in the way while the

resevoir/pool was getting a floor installed on the other side of D Deck. Possibly even play a longer show than planned... Change her statement to suit, but the basic intent is that even if she was able to rise to the moment, it's not anything she wants to repeat, and not what she wants to be known for when she's got a musical career - nifty voice tricks may be cool at parties, but its a good beat and compelling vocals that keep her FLACs on the playlists. That, and she can make music-quirked wavetech beg.

Quote:With a large part of an exterior wall gone, I don't think the concert hall could be returned to service that quickly...
Based on the Brains post "Air Port Convention", atmosphere retention force fields were the first pass, combined with force fields preventing structural failures.  This was rapidly followed by waved physical patches, with the strength of (very thin) battlesteel, to restore atmospheric integrity and physical strength.  So, the concert hall was probably usable without a suit within hours.
This was followed by repair of damaged infrastructure, and it was in this stage that Brains was matching original acoustic properties - rather important for a concert hall.  I know there were other people doing repairs, but Brains is a trained and practiced engineer in several areas, and he was trying to ensure that things got restored to their original function and appearance - partly to show to Boskone how rapidly Fen recovered from their attacks.  Where possible he'd be working from the original plans, with the builder's annotations, otherwise he'd be deducing the plans from what remained.
Even while doing the repairs, all the damage was being recorded, partly for legal proceedings.  I was claiming that "After a couple of days work there was very little visible damage left".  The psychological damage, on the other hand...

I was assuming fabric carpets, and fabrics for things like curtains, would need comprehensive repair.  Brains has something like a giant scaled-up Auto Tailor, that you can feed immense carpets or hangings into, for cleaning and repair, or occasionally complete replacement.  This runs on music, and while you can re-use music you've found works for previous specific projects, making a range of customised table napkins for example, quite a bit of research can be needed for new tasks.  Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Basically that kind of thing is the reason she exists as an open character - go ahead and have her working with your guy on that. Writing songs that his machine turns into literal illustration tapestries? I don't think a balladeer could ask for a better opportunity...

The wiki entry looks good, though there is one word between /slashes/ that probably should ought to be italicized instead.

ETA - I think "And then suddenly, ninjas!" is supposed to be a heading, also, and the entry could probably be expanded slighty to, "...But that's just her road crew/bodyguards, hired from Hidden Asteroid. Despite persistent rumors among Naruto fen, the Marsbase Sara Musician's Aid Society isn't much more than an open jam session & gossip circle, not some Hidden Sound Village analogue.
