"Revised forum interface", eh?
"Revised forum interface", eh?

There's an announcement at the top of the forum (that appears to be hidden to regular users) about an this, which links here.

Well, I'm looking at the preview site they have, and my opinion can be summed up as "My eyes! They burn!" or maybe "Shoot it, shoot it now!"

It sort of sounds like this is an *option*, and not something they're forcing on people. I certainly hope so. But it might be worth putting in a word to the effect of "Do not want this forced on us" just in case, yes?

Unless other people here like it. o.O;;;

Whoever picked the colour(s) of that page needs to take a course in I.T. Accessibility - it's nearly unreadable by blue-yellow colour-blind people.

Please do not implement this scheme here.

Is there more to blue-yellow colorblindness than just the inability to distinguish between the colors? Cause I only see a little yellow used in that page, and none of it is in the text.

edit: And I have no clue how accurate this page is, but it allows you to simulate various states of colorblind-ness on pages, and it doesn't do anything horrible to the readability of said page.

That doesn't mean the page is good design, it just means it's not automatically bad for colorblind people.
It may just be bad for everyone Smile

Does it actually load the tiled section for you? Because it doesn't for me. Suspecting it's a javascript issue. (Since it can't even load that without javascript. Another point of fail.)

The quick version: People with blue-yellow color-blindness see blue as a much darker/blacker hue. Against the dark background of that forum, there wouldn't be enough contrast to properly read.

It does load the tiled section for me, yes. And it's a horror from beyond the abyss.

Oh, that is horrendous. But if I read that announcement properly, it's going to be voluntary.

If it's not, I'm looking for a new forum host -- and asking for a refund on my remaining pageviews.

Ankhani: I was wondering if the tiled section loaded when viewed through the page sweno mentioned. It works fine for me when I open it normally, for a level of "fine" that admits such a layout at all...

Still, the colors are from what I've read are open to configuration, just like current themes. It's the design itself that's the problem.

Bob: That's why I thought it might be worthwhile to put in a word on the "Do not want to be forced to use this" front. I'd really rather not go through a forum migration if I don't have to, and Yuku is actually pretty good on a number of things that matter to me.

They don't seem to be taking responses on the subject, unless there's a different forum than "announcements" where that's happening.

Well, if you look in that sample forum, there's this thread. I'm hoping that it's really as official as the name suggests, and someone is watching...

There is some hope. After 20 minutes, half a dozen worn down machetes, and nearly getting eaten by a grue I found the "off" button for the "tiling mode" or whatever the hell they call that grid thing (Upper right corner). At least then you have a relatively decent ordered list. But honestly, "if it isn't broke, don't fix it." Err... Wait, no, that doesn't work, given the problems we've seen here. How about something more like "Don't waste time on trying to pretty up your UI (and failing) when there are bigger problems to be fixed."

Huh. Doesn't look much different once you do that. (Other than the godawful color scheme, but that's really not the big problem here.)

I still don't like the javascript dependency on general principles.
