We're getting links munged by viglink again... only since I'm on Opera, the content blocker is basically preventing me from following links now. The pop-ups show fine, but once I hit the link, viglink has it's way with the link before the browser gets it, so I have to reconstruct it manually. ("http://" stripped off the link to ensure that they don't render it as an actual link.)

Which is supposed to be ("http://" removed again to eliminate rendering as actual link):

In the meantime, while this gets hashed about, it's time I properly dealt with the unlocked scripting controls in Opera. Tongue

Does their opt out thing help?

Isn't opting out of something you never asked for somewhat like opting out of being mugged? We shouldn't have to opt out - they should be asking us to opt in.

I'm with Rob on this. We have, technically, already opted out by being a paid pageview forum.

And as a note, if a place has to have "errors" to sneak this stuff in to help pay the bills (this is the fourth time in three years, I believe, that something has occurred on this board in terms of them trying to get some additional revenue), either they need new management, or they need to take a good, long, hard look at where their numbers are, and whether or not they need to rethink some of the ones where they charge the users.

I have submitted a complaint to Yuku support.

Well, I certainly wasn't claiming it was ideal. But having a problem and a workaround beats having a problem and no workaround.

I also asked because, if the opt-out doesn't work, that kind of increases the magnitude of the problem, and is thus worth knowing about.

A problem that really shouldn't have existed, honestly, even with the available workaround.

And, again, I do consider that the paid page views for the forum should be an automatic opt-out in terms of Yuku maintaining the correct flags on the account. And it's not the first time they've enabled viglink on the forum to some extent or another, so if there's another 'error' explanation, it's a threadbare excuse by my lights at this late stage.

And they're still Viglink munging links a week later.

Yeah, I know. The last thing I heard from Yuku support is that it's been kicked to management.

Up to management? Hoo boy. That does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling right now.

Oh, and in case anyone else is interested in how this is tracking, you can see the relevant support ticket http://help.yuku.com/requests/6023]here.

Apparently, one must have a Yuku Support ID and password to get to that page.

(Which is not ITIL "best practice" - one should make one's trouble-ticket system available in read-only mode to all stakeholders, in case somebody not directly involved can suggest a solution to any given issue - but can be tolerated as long as you still have access to your own trouble tickets.)

Sorry about that. I didn't realize it wouldn't show up for anyone else.

Is OK, Bob. I've merely added it to my mental file regarding Yuku operations, with regards to where I might host a forum of my own one day... or not, as the case may be.

It is relatively minor a problem, but context, in this case, is everything.

The preferable way to opt out of being mugged is to apply high-velocity lead to the would-be mugger's forehead.

Can we pretty-please use that solution here?
