On A Comeback...
09-02-2006, 08:22 PM
Surprise surprise.
I'm coming back to CoH.
On a whim I ressurected my very first CoH character, with some new things I've learned along the way. If you see an MA/Regen Scrapper Sisial in game on Virtue, that's me.
On the Villain side, also on Virtue, I'm bumming around with an Elec/Elec Brute named Requiem Rosered.

I'm at level 14 now..
Missed the Neogtiator badge, but that has to be one of the most backtracked badges in the game... I'm staring down the barrel of the Positron TF and Caverns of Transcendence... I'm currently on the 'second base' Troll clearing from the mage in The Hollows for the latter.
It's been a really long time since I did anything like a TF.. I'm not looking forward to relearning THAT experience.

Sailor Null is about the right level for the Caves, but I'm going to be busy most of the rest of this week and all weekend, and you'll probably get to it before I can devote any significant time to playing again...

Tachiko's getting there, too, one more level or so... might make it for this weekend, if I get in there and play a few missions first.--

I'm up to the mission to kill Atta now at 14. I need to do some research into the mission itself, as well as the Positron TF, and see what's what.

Frankly speaking, I wouldn't recommend either the Cavern Trial or the Positron TF, unless you, y'know, really know what you're doing.
I've never done the Cavern Trial in the Hollows, but it requires a full team of eight. There are eight obelisks that must be activated simultaneously. That makes this somewhat problematic for a pickup group, 'cause...well, there's a chance someone's gonna drop out, start screwing around, or simply not groking the idea that everyone's gotta click the things together.
The Positron TF doesn't have anything like that, but it is rather long and tedious. The problem is, it consists of something like...I dunno, 15 missions, over maybe four or five zones.
So it's long, and travel time is an issue if some team members don't have travel powers yet. 'specially if nobody has Recall Friend. The TF also pits you against fairly tough enemies, like Vahzilok in general, or Circle of Thorns Ruin Mages, at a level where you don't really have the powers to deal with 'em.
That means that both the Cavern Trial (12-15) and the Positron TF (10-15) are...best done with a friends or an SG group, ie, people you can trust.
...
That said, the Synapse TF (15-20), is a fairly easy and pleasant experience. Well, aside from the battle with Babbage...he ambushes you after you exit one of the later missions. That can be tricky if your team isn't properly set up to kill a Monster, but folks usually turn up to help if you shout for assistance on zone broadcast (or the VirtueUnited global channel, etc).

I have had success with a 3 man Positron Team. The spawn counts are low enough to handle even at level 10. a lack of zerg rushes is a good thing-Terry

Oh, and Atta is a pain and a half. I've done the Atta mission once -- the map is like a spiral, with mob after mob of trolls every hundred feet or so, and Atta and his goons are at the center -- and it's very hard to run away if you need to, so you better be loaded for several bear when you go in.

Ahhhh, I remember the good old days where the Atta mission was notoriously bugged. Every time a group was aggroed, they'd teleport to the center of the map, at the tunnel crossroads. Most of the team would wait there, while a Designated Aggroer would run around and get a mob at a time. If he hit too many, it was a troll rave at the destination spot! Forthe time being, I'll just keep levelling. Finding some poor soul who I can exemplar down with to complete either quest line shouldn't be TOO hard.

I think the only hollows mission that I've had major trouble with was the "defeat 10 pumicite" one. Large groups with ranged knockdown is no fun at all...
-Morgan. Well, okay, there's Frostfire, but I just level up a couple times then go back to that one..."I have no interest in ordinary humans. If there are any aliens, time travelers, or espers here, come sleep with me."

God I hated that one so much.
I finally did a stick-and move operation across the Glutch with Super Jump. I'd come in, do a three attack chain. Hop clear while the Igneous were still going 'whut?' and then get clear.
Wait for them to reset.
Then do it again.
THIS is how you get nothing but Lts in the Gultch after a while.. ..But I really don't know how else you can do it solo.

Sailor Null had no problems with that mish -- the only one of my characters to make that claim.
She just flew over the Gulch higher than thrown boulder range, and sniped them all...

Evangelia still needs a badge for whacking Igneous bosses, too... Hmm. Somebody once gave some really good-sounding advice on how to go about that, involving finding someone with a relevant mission and sidekicking him to force the spawns upward, levelwise, but I don't remember the specifics. Can whoever it was please refresh my memory? Thanks.

I've never done a mission with Pums in it, but I got the Volcanic badge by hunting in the Hollows once I was at higher levels. If you look for the sections of ground in the Gulch that looks like it's burning, there are usually 1 to 3 Magma Lords under the ground. You can get them out by firing off a PbAOE attack over the spot. While I was there, I worked on the troll boss badge, and also picked up Troll Task Force for spending time in the Hollows."Broad-minded is just another way of saying a fellow's too lazy to form an opinion." -- Will RogersGlobal: @Jimmy Amp

Unfortunately, Evangelia doesn't have any area-of-effect attacks that don't require her to be standing on top of the targets. Then again, she's L33. It shouldn't matter. Hmm. Maybe this is something to do tonight...

Just for the record: My Dark Melee scrapper used Soul Drain and Dark Consumption to get the Magma Lords to pop and my Electric blaster used Short Circuit. Worked like a charm. "Broad-minded is just another way of saying a fellow's too lazy to form an opinion." -- Will RogersGlobal: @Jimmy Amp

I forget what it's called, but if you've got the PBAoE Broadsword attack...'Whirling Sword' or somesuch, it should work.
Or...
I believe Jpub posted, some time ago, in another thread, that if you sidekick a lowbie character to you or somethin'... the lowbie'll still trigger and aggro those pop-up ambush spawns. Even with the sidekick active. Never tried that, but if it works...
