Archive of Character Appearances

Despite what part of me is saying, despite the little voice in the back of my head that is saying there are plans in works and what not... I intend to grab at the very least .costume files for my characters and/or decent pictures of their current costumes.
Looks at list of alts... yes this will take a while, but I'm grabbing *something*, just in case. I've had too many regrets lately.
How high-res of a pic do you need to see if you can port the outfit elsewhere?

I'm not sure I understand what you need, here?
Are you wanting to recreate the avatars and costumes in another game? Or are you just wanting hi-res screenshots?

I think high rez screen shots would be a better way of going about it.
I highly doubt that you will be able to use the .costume files after COH goes dark, so having a screen shot you can reference is far more useful my books.
I would think that any full screen picture (regardless of the resolution) should be more than enough for costuming purposes.
If you want to be paranoid, grab one from the front and one from the back.
That should be more than enough to recreate the look in whatever MMO we descend on next.

You can also take them in .jpg or .png format. Check in the keybinds section of options.

Ah right. Yes.
One other thing I intend to do -
Screenshot all their bios, the ones that have them. (If I haven't already. In many cases I have. But I might get duplicates anyway just to be sure.)
- I intend to go in and screenshot their Powers, Slots and Enhancements (Usually IOs, but some HOs and in one case a Hami-O). I don't feel the need to do this for all my characters. But the ones I worked on the most, like Cyberman 8 and Kara Skye and Lily the Diamond and a couple of others would get that.
And go in and screenshot their badge display screen, then go in and screenshot all the badge descriptions/text.
The bit with the Badge text screengrabs is NOT something I'm going to do with every character! That would be INSANE. I have 30+ characters!
But the basic Badge display and display of total badges earned? Yup. That I can do.

You'll want to remember to use the "/screenshotui 1" command to get the UI to show up in screenies. (0 to turn it off again)

You might save yourself some headache by using Titan Sentinel, Logan. Have it running, then load the character and type /info. That'll capture all your badges right there.
You can also use it to export a Mids datachunk containing your current build and enhancement layout.

As per one of the various threads by the guys from the Titans Network, I went and copied some of my characters over to the Test Server.
The character copy tool was good... there is a list of all the characters for each server. Nice. So, on a whim I went through every server and counted the 'real' characters. That is not counting the throw-aways, the placeholders, the costume holders, the lvl 1 characters. Only counting the characters with a name that with actual time spent on them, and a story of some sort.
Total: 75 characters.
DAMNIT! I'm not finished with them yet!
Yes, some of them are just a single line ... "Thug with Gruff voice and Dark Powers that like's to thump people" ... but he had a distinct 'voice' from everyone else. He had potential. Others were multi-page epics and ongoing classics that rattled around in my head but I knew I couldn't do them justice. (There is story behind how Silent Helper became Silent Helper. How Jelidan became Jelidan and in Paragon and *female* and what they planned to do if they ever permanently fell in combat. Raven Bolt is working for Craft Industries who is owned by a villain named Victor van Craft who defiles description.... and the list goes on.)
75 characters.
I'm going to be busy.
(Aside: yes I just admitted that I have over 70+ voices/characters running around in my head at times. I don't need anymore Alts. My appologies for the outburst... trying to write for a about "Where will you be when the servers die?" has stirred them all up.)

Upgraded Sentinel: http://boards.cityofheroe.../showthread.php?t=296875
Wow!
It has Arcanaville's seal of approval and they've been after something like this for a awhile.
And it grabs all the costume and badge data at once. I'll take that!

When you say "all of the costume data" I assume you mean just what the character is wearing at the time you grab it?
Or does it actually grab what's in the current available costume slots? Did they say that? Or is there no way to know?

It grabs them all. I've opened up one of the save files with notepad, and you can clearly see where all your costume data is held. It grabs the entire character, as far as I can tell.

*sigh* It really is the end of the world. How? Min met herself today at the D. No really. Seems another memeber of the Cape also made a Lynn Minmay, only this one really was from the Macross universe. So we got to sit and compare our back history. Finally got to use to much of the stuff rattling around in the back of my head since I made her.

With that and all the extra costume files in the costumes file folder, there should be no problem recreating any character if it comes to that!

I haven't been able to get that upgraded Sentinel to do anything. Whether I run it from the command line or by doubleclicking the exe, it insists that I don't have COH running.

If you're running on Vista/7 you might have to sudo it. i.e. right click and "Run this program as administrator" That's what did it for me. I dislike throwing admin at stuff, but windows UAC is funky and I think we can trust Titan's coding here.

Drove me nuts for a while

Considering what it does, admin rights may be a necessity. As for running it, the Sentinel program is straightforward. Just open your info screen and click on badges to make sure those get included as well. Your badge data isn't transferred to your PC until you click on that tab. Then the Sentinel program just copies everything, and off you go from there.
The SentinelPlus program (sheesh. Almost called it Sentinel Prime. I've got serious TF issues, I think. ) is a straightforward open-and-save program. You need to open your personal info page and switch to badges before you run the program. It'll open up, inform you if it can't find the badges. If you don't get the message, it's all good. You tap any key, and the program closes. After that, it's done. You'll find the save file wherever you put the SentinelPlus program.

Okay, I'll do that tonight. After I posted I wondered if I had tried it with admin rights, and I couldn't remember; I then resolved to try it when I got home. Good to know I was on the right track.
