Not sure how useful these are...

Nightwish is hard to interpret, and most of their stuff sounds too depressing for the Loon, but I think this one might mean something, if not as a power song, then as sort of an anthem. It speaks of a long journey, love and leaving (all of which looks to fit), with the occasional religious overtone (and we all know what that means). Beyond that, I don't know: I leave it to you to interpret, and find the truths I missed.
*/ Nightwish, "Bless The Child", 6:12 /*
I was born amidst the purple waterfalls.
I was weak, yet not unblessed.
Dead to the world. Alive for the journey.
One night I dreamt a white rose withering,
a newborn drowning a lifetime loneliness.
I dreamt all my future. Relived my past.
I witnessed the beauty of the beast"
Where have all the feelings gone?
Why has all the laughter ceased?
Why am I loved only when I'm gone?
Gone back in time to bless the child
Think of me long enough to make a memory
Come bless the child one more time
How can I ever feel again?
Given the chance would I return?
I've never felt so alone in my life
As I drank from a cup which was counting my time
There's a poison drop in this cup of Man
To drink it is to follow the left hand path
"Where have all the feelings gone?
Why is the deadliest sin - to love as I loved you?
Now unblessed, homesick in time,
soon to be freed from care, from human pain.
My tale is the most bitter truth:
Time pays us but with earth & dust, and a dark, silent grave.
Remember, my child: Without innocence the cross is only iron,
hope is only an illusion & Ocean Soul's nothing but a name...
The Child bless thee & keep thee forever"

Considering the artist, this one is downright cheerful, but has some of the same themes.
*/ Nightwish, "Away", 4:33 /*
The days were brighter
Gardens more blooming
The nights had more hope
In their silence The wild was calling
Wishes were whispering
The time was there
But without a meaning
Away, away in time
Every dream's a journey away
Away to a home away from care
Everywhere's just a journey away
The days departed
Gardens deserted
This frail world
My only rest?
The wild calls no more
Wishes so hollow
The Barefoot Boy
weeping in an empty night
Away ...
Cherish the moment
Tower the skies
Don't let the dreamer
fade to grey like grass
No falling for life
A gain for every loss
Time gathered me
But kept me flying

And let's not forget Wayfarer:
I went into the wilderness with Uncle Walt
I discovered the wild
Learning to suck all the experience
Seeing the world through cradle's bars
The wild blessed me with an errant mind
Showing the way for the ultimate lore
I went around the world, beyond the wild
Finding my home from an ocean shore
Wayfarer, heartlander
What if I only had
One more night to live
Home is where the way is
My road goes on forever
One more voyage to go
Wayfarer, heartlander
What if I only had
One more night to live
Dead to the world
Alive for the journey
Wayfarer, heartlander
What if I only had
One more night to one more night to live
Wayfarer, heartlander
What if I only had
One more night to live
Home is where the way is
My road goes on forever
One more voyage to one more voyage one more voyage to go
...This would make one hell of a gatesong, power song, or maybe both.
That's it: it turbocharges Doug, but uncontrollably throws him into another world at the end! Or not.

Sort of like the effect from "Joyful, Joyful" in DW][, but without divine consequences. Essentially, "Have fun, and party, now!".
I spend a lot of time alone, as in the vast majority of each day, for months on end. Outward expression of emotion, as a result, doesn't come naturally to me- I'll generally know how I feel, but not really *feel* it, and nobody else will, either. This song can always make me feel and act happy, to the point of singing along (and since I normally take myself very seriously, this is _rare_), even without metagifts backing it up. It's one of a few that I'd try right off, if I had Doug's power.

Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It's the only way to live
In cars
Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for days
In cars
Here in my car
Where the image breaks down
Will you visit me please?
If I open my door
In cars
Here in my car
I know I've started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right
In cars
The effect would, fairly obviously, be to conjure a car for Doug to use. I'd suggest that the car (of a random make/model, though probably very classic, and not newer than the song) be bulletproof, and provide anybody inside with mental equilibrium (defense against mind-altering effects, manifesting as a sense of security). The keys would be in the ignition, and the gas tank would be full (of course).
The fun part of this, of course, is in what the song *doesn't* do. Doug would feel unsafe (unusually tense, nervous, a bit frightened) outside the car- I think that, if I had a nasty subconscious, the emphasis on stability and safety *in* the car would reverse themselves once I left it. The car would fit the song, and since the song is so incredibly '80s, it would most likely come from that decade, leaving him at a disadvantage in later/higher-tech worlds. The "image breaks down" and "nothing seems right" lines would seem to indicate that the world looks mighty strange from inside the car- that could be fun. Of course, any or all of these effects might actually be used... or not.

How 'bout an anti-mind control song?
*/ Anthony Warlow (& others), "Do You Hear The People Sing", _Les Miserables_, 2:01 /*
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance
Some will fall and some will live
Will you stand up and take your chance?
The blood of the martyrs
Will water the meadows of France!
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
At first, I thought it was obvious: all those under the control of another get freed, permanently. Then, I realized that that was too simple, and far too disruptive, and wanted to make it for the duration of the song. Now, I'm thinking that it 'frees' all beings within range who are under the control of, beholden to, have obligations towards, or are otherwise 'enslaved' by another person from whatever bonds hold them, for a duration determined by the fairness, onerousness, and justice of the bond.
Thus, an "Uncle Tom", a slave who is treated well and doesn't mind his bondage, would be free for about one combat round. People in jail, if Doug ever walked through one, would be let free for lengths based on their terms vs. their crimes (properly sentenced crimnals would never get out, but the wrongfully accused would be let loose permanently). Boomers would've ignored their programming constraints for the full (unimpressive) duration of the song, or for the rest of their lives.
Servant Factor? Your call, but it sounds to me like slavery of the most immoral, undeserved, and unjust kind possible.

He thinks that man is me
He knew him at a glance!
That stranger he has found
This man could be my chance!
Why should I save his hide?
Why should I right this wrong
When I have come so far
And struggled for so long?
If I speak, I am condemned.
If I stay silent, I am damned!
I am the master of hundreds of workers.
They all look to me.
How can I abandon them?
How would they live
If I am not free?
If I speak, I am condemned.
If I stay silent, I am damned!
Who am I?
Can I condemn this man to slavery
Pretend I do not feel his agony
This innocent who bears my face
Who goes to judgement in my place
Who am I?
Can I conceal myself for evermore?
Pretend I'm not the man I was before?
And must my name until I die
Be no more than an alibi?
Must I lie?
How can I ever face my fellow men?
How can I ever face myself again?
My soul belongs to God, I know
I made that bargain long ago
He gave me hope when hope was gone
He gave me strength to journey on
Who am I? Who am I?
I am Jean Valjean!
And so Javert, you see it's true
That man bears no more guilt than you!
Who am I?
24601!
I think that looks an awful lot like a way to cure amnesia. Well, that, or make Doug feel like a redeemed criminal for 3.5 minutes, but who's to tell?
I'd have the code for this song engraved in a highly visible area near the keypad on Doug's helmet, if it does the first one. I could easily see him getting a head injury in a moment of relaxation, forgetting who he is, finding the helmet (or being led to it by friends), seeing the keypad, and entering the code written down right next to it, just to see what it did.

Hm. Frankly, the video distracted me from the song, because I suddenly realized I hadn't seen the ending of Sailor Moon Season 1 in a couple of years, and I started revising the action on screen to include Doug and the events of the SM Step ("Jupiter! Mars! Plasma Bomb, now!"). I'm going to have to listen to it in the background or something to get a better feel for the story.

It sounds like a targeted (one other person; must be female) "perfect counselor" effect. Doug gains a running Elohite resonance for the target, knowing what problem(s) affect her (specifically, what negative emotions she's feeling, and why). He also, for the duration of the song, is more able to help talk her through said problems.
The fun part is that, not only is he able to talk her through the above emotional problems, but he *must* do so, to the best of his (increased) ability. This could be interesting, especially if a battle begins in the middle, or he, in the course of helping the girl, says (or promises) something that he didn't mean (or want to do)...Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines...

True. However, it made a better (more inspiring *sentimental sniff!*) story that Doug was able to help her without using that power. Shows he's resourceful, smart, compassionate, more than just a mouth and a metagift, etc. Now, if Wetter Hexe drops in to say she found "A Day in the Life" totally unbelievable because it showed Doug as resourceful, smart, compassionate, more than just a mouth and a metagift, etc., then you've got a problem....

*/ Donny Osmond (ensemble), "I'll Make A Man Out Of You", 3:20 /*
Let's get down to business - to defeat the Huns
Did they send me daughters when I asked for sons?
You're the saddest bunch I've ever met
But you can bet before we're through
Mister, I'll make a man out of you
Tranquil as a forest
But on fire within
Once you find your center
You are sure to win
You're a spineless, pale pathetic lot
And you haven't got a clue
Somehow I'll make a man out of you
I'm never gonna catch my breath
Say goodbye to those who knew me
Boy, was I a fool in school for cutting gym
This guy's got 'em scared to death
Hope he doesn't see right through me
Now I really wish that I knew how to swim
(Chorus
Be a man
We must be swift as the coursing river
Be a man
With all the force of a great typhoon
Be a man
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon
Time is racing toward us till the Huns arrive
Heed my every order and you might survive
You're unsuited for the rage of war
So pack up, go home you're through
How could I make a man out of you?
(repeat chorus)
(repeat chorus)
This one can be ambiguous enough to play with, even though it's clear enough for a good power. There are two effects: first (and most noticeably), the group of persons Doug targets with this song become "real men"- stronger, tougher, faster, and more skilled in combat. This will be strongest during the song, of course, but I'd say that it's like dumping a bunch of training onto the 'recruits'- their stats and skills are increased as though they trained themselves (but require them to keep training to maintain...). Don't neglect playing up the personality of a "real man" with this: men in mind as well as body, the targets are markedly more masculine in attitude (but only during the song).
The other fun thing about this song is how "man" can also be defined as "male". If a target is female, they become male for the duration of the song, while feeling all the other effects. This would be especially funny if Doug had used this song back in DWI (like to train farmers to defend their village in a hurry), but on an all-male group. In DW-BSSM, I could very well see him cuing this up to give the Senshi a quick lesson in combat during a difficult fight, then staring, poleaxed, as the now male Senshi take their new, masculine aggressions out on the youma...
And oh, the possibilities from there!Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines...

I don't know about the idea that women become temporarily "male" in some way -- after all, Mulan made it through that sequence without changing gender but still became a prime soldier.
I like the instant training idea; I seem to recall thinking of something like that when I first saw the movie (our wedding anniversary in 1998, the day I posted We Belong to the FFML)...

But if you try sometimes, well you might find
You get what you need
Oh yea-ay (hey-hey-hey, oooh)
And I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singin', 'We're gonna vent our frustration
If we don't, we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse'
Sing it to me, now
(You can't always get what you want)
(You can't always get what you want)
(You can't always get what you want)
But if you try sometimes, well you just might find
You get what you need
Ooh baby, yeah, ooh
I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standin' in line with Mr. Jimmy
A-man, did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I sung my song to Mr. Jimmy
Yeah, and he said one word to me, and that was 'dead'
I said to him
(You can't always get what you want) well no!
(You can't always get what you want) tell ya baby
(You can't always get what you want) no
But if you try sometimes, you just might find, mmm!
Mmm! you get what you need
Ooh yes! Woo!
(Instrumental & choir) Ooow-ooh!
You get what you need
Yeah!
Ooow, babe!
Ooh, yeah
I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well, I could tell by her blood-stained hands
Say it!
(You can't always get what you want) yeah!
(You can't always get a-what you want) ooo-yeah, baby!
(You can't always get a-what you want)
But if you try sometime, you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need
Ooh, yeah!
Ooh, baby!
Woo!
Ah, you can't always get a-what you want
No, no baby
You can't always get a-what you want
Tellin' you right now
You can't always get what you want, mmm!
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find, that ya
Get what you need
Oooh, yeah!
I'm tellin' the truth, babe
Ooow-ooh!
Ooow-ooh!
Ooow-ooh!........
(Instrumental & choir to end fade)
I was thinking that this song would "give" Doug "what he needs." The problem is that he might not recognize what it is good for. Doug could get an item, a vision, or even a telephone call, anything as long as it was what he needed--even if he didn't KNOW why it was needed.

I know there are Big O fans on the board: does anybody _else_ out there have the extended version of the opening theme? Yaknow, the one with *lyrics*?
