a couple of possible gate songs
a couple of possible gate songs
#1
Talking Heads - "Road to Nowhere"
Well we know where we're goin
But we don't know where we've been
And we know what were knowin
But we can't say what we've seen
And were not little children
And we know what we want
And the future is certain
Give us time to work it out
We're on a road to nowhere
Come on inside
Takin' that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride
I'm feelin' okay this mornin'
And you know,
We're on the road to paradise
Here we go, here we go
Chorus
Maybe you wonder where you are
I don't care
Here is where time is on our side
Take you there...take you there
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
There's a city in my mind
Come along and take that ride
And it's all right, baby, it's all right
And it's very far away
But it's growing day by day
And it's all right, baby, it's all right
They can tell you what to do
But they'll make a fool of you
And its all right, baby, its all right
We're on a road to nowhere

Ozzy Osbourne - "Road to Nowhere"
I was looking back on my life
And all the things I've done to me
I'm still looking for the answers
I'm still searching for the key
Chorus
The wreckage of my past keeps haunting me
It just won't leave me alone
I still find it all a mystery
Could it be a dream?
The road to nowhere leads to me
Through all the happiness and sorrow
I guess I'd do it all again
Live for today and not tomorrow
It's still the road that never ends
Chorus
Ah ah
The road to nowhere's gonna pass me by
Ah ah
I hope we never have to say goodbye
I never want to live without you
Chorus
**************
A pair of possible gate songs, although I suspect Doug would be wary about a world that Ozzie's version brings him to. The talking Heads version is more upbeat.__________________

The Talking Heads one is a song that I've been wanting to do something with for a while -- possibly paired with the B-52s "Roam"...

Could be used to leave DW-VII, VIII,or BSSM. They all have school contexts, after all.

And so we talked all night about the rest of our lives
Where we're gonna be when we turn 25
I keep thinking times will never change
Keep on thinking things will always be the same
But when we leave this year we won't be coming back
No more hanging out cause we're on a different track
And if you got something that you need to say
You better say it right now cause you don't have another day
Cause we're moving on and we can't slow down
These memories are playing like a film without sound
And I keep thinking of the night in June
I Didn't know much of love, but it came too soon
And There was me and you, and then it got real blue
Stay at home talkin' on the telephone and
We would get so excited, we'd get so scared
Laughing at our selves thinking life's not fair
And this is how it feels
Chorus:
As we go on, we remember
All the times we had together
And as our lives change, from whatever
We will still be, friends forever
So if we get the big jobs and we make the big money
When we look back now, will that joke still be funny?
Will we still remember everything we learned in school?
Still be trying to break every single rule
Will little brainy Bobby be the stockbroker man?
Can Heather find a job that won't interfere with her tan?
I keep, I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly
And this is how it feels
Repeat chorus
La, la, la, la; yeah, yeah, yeah
La, la, la, la, we will still be friends forever
Will we think about tomorrow like we think about now?
Can we survive it out there? Can we make it somehow?
I guess I thought that this would never end
And suddenly it's like we're women and men
Will the past be a shadow that will follow us round?
Will these memories fade when I leave this town
I keep, I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly
Repeat chorus 3x

"Graduation" and 'going away' are synonymous, when you're talking about a school, after all.

I've not heard much Vitamin C that I've liked, despite her being a local girl to me, so I'll be reserving judgment until I can listen to this.

How about for leaving DW-EVA? The apocalyptic references work, the time seems to not be an issue (depends on when DW-SKU is set ), and the mood seems decently cheerful enough.
*/ Prince, "1999" /*
I was dreamin' when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes
astray
But when I woke up this mornin'
Could have
sworn it was judgment day
The sky was all purple
There were people runnin' everywhere
Tryin' to
run from the destruction
You know I didn't even
care
They say two thousand zero, zero, party over,
Oops, out of time!
So tonight I'm gonna party like
it's 1999!
I was dreamin' when I wrote
this
So sue me if I go too fast
But life is just a
party
And parties weren't meant to last
War
is all around us
My mind says prepare to fight
So if I
gotta die
I'm gonna listen to my body tonight
They say two thousand zero, zero, party over,
Oops, out
of time!
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's
1999!
1999!
If you didn't come to party
Don't bother knockin' on my door
I got a lion
in my pocket
And baby, he's ready to roar
Yeah, everybody's got a bomb
We could all die any
day
But before I'll let that happen
I'll
dance my life away
They say two thousand zero, zero,
party over,
Oops, out of time!
(We're
runnin' outta time)
So tonight we're gonna party
like it's 1999!
Say, say,
Two thousand
zero, zero, party over,
Oops, out of time!
So tonight
we're gonna party like it's 1999!
Alright,
it's 1999!
You say it, 1999!
1999!
1999! Don't stop, don't stop, say it 1 more
time!
1999!

Actually, I was thinking of this as a variety of attack song. The version I had on tape for many many years ended with either Wendy or Lisa plaintively repeating several times, "Mommy? Why does everybody have a bomb?"
