Have effects, need songs...
Have effects, need songs...
#1
Sorry about inverting the usual order of the Game, folks...
There's a few scenes that I'd like to put into Blue Skies, Blue Water (currently at 39K spread out over the entire fic, BTW) but I can't find or think of appropriate songs.
First effect: "stop being an idiot and come back here". I'll settle for just "come back here"...
Second effect: "trust me, I'm harmless - really!"
Third effect: either "save your own life" or "get out of what you know is a dangerous situation".
Any ideas, anyone?

Tentatively, Pat Benatar's "Don't Walk Away." Basically a love song, but the chorus might get the right effect:
We can start over,
Darling, it's clear:
Love is what brought you here.
Don't walk away
To see if I follow;
Don't walk away,
Victory's hollow.
Been that road,
It didn't take us home;
Turn around --
You won't be alone.
Edit: It actually fits with the "stop being an idiot" part, too, because it's pretty clear in the song that the person addressed is trying to play power games with the relationship -- and you ought to find a picture of that behavior in the dictionary under "idiocy."

Sorry -- every time I try thinking about this one, the "Super-Chicken" theme starts playing in my head. And I've got a feeling that I know a good possibility for "trust me, I'm harmless," but I can't pin down any actual song. It's one of those tip-of-my-tongue things.DHBirr

Stabbing Westward - Save Yourself?
I know your life is empty
And you hate to face this world alone
So you're searching for an angel
Someone who can make you whole
I can not save you
I can't even save myself
So just save yourself
I know that you've been damaged
Your soul has suffered such abuse
But I am not your savior
I am just as fucked as you
I am just as fucked as you
I can not save you
I can't even save myself
So just save yourself
Please don't take pity on me
Please don't take pity on me
Please don't take pity on me
Please don't take pity on me
My life has been a nightmare
My soul is fractured to the bone
And if I must be lonely, I think I'd rather be alone
I think I'd rather be alone
You can not save me
You can't even save yourself
I can not save you
I can't even save myself
Save yourself
So just save yourself

Nothing for these, yet...

How about "St. Elmo's Fire" by John Parr?

How about "Trust In Me," from Disney's version of THe Jungle Book? And also, "Baby Come Back?"

Thanks, all. Keep the suggestions coming - the first one's the only one I need for the first chapter, and I don't need the third one until the final chapter...

(for "save your own life")
Quote:

...

My soul is fractured to the bone
And if I must be lonely, I think I'd rather be alone
I think I'd rather be alone
That's almost perfect for the scene (assuming it doesn't get re-written later)...

First thing that comes to mind is "Scorpion's Theme" from the Immortal Kombat OST (the game, not the movie). Which essentially consists of heavy techno with repeated "Get Over Here!". Probably not something Doug's talent would care for.
>Second effect: "trust me, I'm harmless - really!"
Um... "I'm just soul, whose intentions are good... Oh Lord, please don't let me be, misunderstood..." Can't remember singer or title, but it *sounds* Motown.

Mmm... "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place"? An imperfect fit, if at all...

SF's possibly on a Tarantino kick with that suggestion of 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood', which a number of artists has covered - Santa Maria's extended one's is going to be most memberable to recent moviebuffs. However I don't think any version of it would have a "trust me, I'm harmless - really!" effect and am at a loss to recommend one for it.

The Animals, "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", although I understand several artists including Elvis Costello have done remakes.
The lyrics are:
Baby, do you understand me now
Sometimes I feel a little mad
But don't you know that no one alive
Can always be an angel
When things go wrong I seem to be bad
But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood
Baby, sometimes I'm so carefree
With a joy that's hard to hide
And sometimes it seems that all I have do is worry
Then you're bound to see my other side
But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood
If I seem edgy I want you to know
That I never mean to take it out on you
Life has it's problems and I get my share
And that's one thing I never meant to do
Because I love you
Oh, Oh baby don't you know I'm human
Have thoughts like any other one
Sometimes I find myself long regretting
Some foolish thing some little simple thing I've done
But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood
Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood
Yes, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Perfect... and I've even got a "best of the Animals" CD in my collection. That's one nailed down, one probable, and one still up in the air with a number of possibles.
