Polymorph: Flesh to Stone? Or just a sea monster simalcrum?
Polymorph: Flesh to Stone? Or just a sea monster simalcrum?

RELEASE THE KRAKEN
by Clutch
What's the matter brother, does the drought got you down?
(Open up the bomb shelter, sweep it on out)
Sing to the ocean in the afternoon haze,
Up the iron pillars, rise in the waves.
Andromeda is weeping. Inside one teardrop swims
Brave Useless in training less a millimeter thin.
RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
GET THE SACRIFICE ON!
RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
GOOD GD Y'ALL!
Useless the Younger we pray for you.
You know we got your back in whatever you do.
Bathysphere bobbing in Eyeball Bay,
Black lash crashes, forty foot waves.
Cepheus is holding Cassiopeia's free hand
As the Kraken breaks the surface making bee-line to the land.
(spoken) In Greek legend the son of Zeus and Danae
He and his mother was set adrift in a chest, but rescued by the intervention of Zeus. He was brought up by KING POLYDECTES,
Who, wishing to secure Danae, got rid of him by encouraging him
In the almost hopeless task of obtaining the head OF THE MEDUSA!
With the help of the gods he was successful, and with the head,
Which turned all that looked on it into stone, he rescued Andromeda
And later metamorphosed Polydectes and his guests to stone.
(various repetitions and effects on 'metamorphosed to stone')
(spoken section words in Release the Kraken are taken from Brewer's
Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, 1995, Harper Collins, page 819)
Lyrics from this page. If you've never heard them, the best description I can give for Clutch is "What if Frank Zappa played heavy metal?"
- CDHow many times have you stared mournfully into the coleslaw and thought "Gee, I wish I was a cabbage."

CROW: (hypnotized) A twisted man who wants to inflict his pain upon others.

Quote:
"What if Frank Zappa played heavy metal?"
Considering that my first exposure was 'Pickles and Beer', I thougth he DID play heavy metal..."I was an Otaku before those kids came along and changed the meaning of the word."

Hear that thunder rolling till it seems to split the sky?
That's every ship in Grayson's Navy taking up the cry-

NO QUARTER!!!

Okay, Heavier Metal. Release the Kraken is one of Clutch's lighter numbers, and even the vocalist sounds just like The Great One. I don't recall too much of Frank screaming into the mic while the band blasted along behind him, though, as happens now and then with Clutch as songs come to a climax. Nonetheless, I feel secure in reccomending giving them a try to anyone who enjoys Zappa.

What, you think Samuel L. Jackson isn't going to survive the zombie apocalypse?

Sounds like something to look into, then. Thanks, even if I don't find a use for the song. (Hm. You might want to throw it over to Rob Kelk for use in his DW/Nadia fic -- lots of nice open water, perfect for a sea monster...)

It's spelt "Frodo Baggins" but it's pronounced "Throat-wobbler Mangrove."
