Crossover bunnies that SHOULD be
Crossover bunnies that SHOULD be
#1
So, a while back I took a look at the first few chapters of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga, and was rather unimpressed. Ed seemed noisy and irritating and the whole thing rather shallow.
A recent fanfic binge, however, has disabused me of that notion, so I'll definitely be looking into this farther. ^_^
The crossover bunny comes into the question in my getting the distinct impression that this could fit into the Nanohaverse without even a ripple.
Thoughts?

what would that make Al?
The inhabitant of a long dead Intelligent device?
And ID himself?
And how would TSAB classify what Al and Ed did to become how they currently are?
there is some rubbing as you look further into the cosmology of FMA, but I could definetly see TSAB be very unhappy with people who experimant on lost logia powered by (spoiler in white) human souls. In fact, there are some rather strong parralels between the philosophers stone and the book of darkness.
But definitely an interesting idea.

A technological dead end, I expect - along with the Philosopher's Stone itself. Once you realize that even with the stone, you're not getting the same person, a reincarnation attempt is pointless and there are easier ways to grow one from scratch... and for anything else, mass/energy conversion can cover any other requirement you might have.
Probably Al would fall under a class of individual/artifact that hasn't been needed to be dealt with in the Nanoha canon.
...I do have a theory about a way to make human transmutation work properly without the Stone, too - though it presumes that humans are not unique among living creatures in having some sort of soul - but I likely wouldn't include it in the same story as the rest of this.
BTW, am I the only one who thinks that Midchildia's technological track most likely really diverged from Earth's about the equivalent of the 1930s or 40s?
The FMA world could work either as some NonSignatory Planet, somewhere or as Midchildia's distant past... I'm not sure which'd be more interesting, really...

The nanoha cross Ive been thinking about is Kazuma from scryed.
*spoilers"
as per original series:
The "Lost Ground" and the rise of alters happens from an accidental incursion by an artifact from another dimension.
That does seem to mesh rather nicely in comparison with Nanoha's exposure to magic via lost logia.

Okay, this came from a really really fucked up dream I just woke up from, and I'd get a kick out of anyone actually writing something in that direction, since none of the Lord of the Rings fanfics or crossovers I've read have managed to do more than irritate me.
Brace yourselves, what if ... Frodo Baggins were the reincarnation of Ashley J. Williams?
Oy.
That or just dropping Ash himself in there somewhere. Either way, it'd make things a hell of a lot less boring.

... For some reason, I get the very amusing mental image of Ash shooting Sauron in the eye.

The best point of insertion in a reincarnation scenario is the fight when Frodo gets stabbed by the Ring Wraith... a hard glancing blow to the forhead, instead of a stab wound, gives a chance to let him get screwed up enough to let Ash out... At which point Ash kills off one of the Ring Wraith and a scramble brained Frodo ends up in Elfland with multiple Wraith rings on a necklace. Elfland would also have the best chance of getting Ash/Frodo better weapons. Ring Wraith's are effectively Deadites and their swords do corrupt things.

There's been a plot bunny going over my head having read the Zero no Tsukaima novel summaries:
What happens if Louise pulls someone else besides Saito through to her world?
Someone like Emiya Shiro of Fate/Stay night?
or even better, someone like Yuuiji of Shakugan no Shana?

There are a lot of amusing things for loiuse to summon as her familiar. I should write these up as spamfics...
Imagine what would happen if she summoned a modern day special ops guy from a warzone. Happy times all around.
Or even more world shattering an engineer.
Perhaps some combination what about a bolo?
If you really need overkill summon Washuu instead.
Well lets abandon the tech route, Lousie was so disappointed she summoned just a plebian so what if she summoned a mage.
Dark Schneider (from Bastard!) could be amusing.
Summon Hayate could be amusing as the TSAB assumes she has been kidnapped and... there is how much firepower thrown at the problem... oh my.
Well I already brought out the big guns for magic so what's left...
What if she had summoned some form of critter? Winnie the Pooh maybe? Mewtwo offers some intriguing plot twists.
Can't think of any good ones so lets leave it at the moment what if she had summoned a martial artist? Good options include most members of the Ranma cast, Honoka from the Third, and a few dozen other possibilities.
What if she summoned someone who wouldn't put up with her crap...
What if she summoned Doug? (This is one I really want to read)
E: "Did they... did they just endorse the combination of the JSDF and US Army by showing them as two lesbian lolicons moving in together and holding hands and talking about how 'intimate' they were?"
B: "Have you forgotten so soon? They're phasing out Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

Well, what happens if she summoned someone like Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series?
Now if she summoned Sosuke Sagara of Full Metal Panic...I can see some interesting interactions between him, Colbert and Agnes.

Worse familiar summons for Louise

Howsabout Asuka Langley Sohryu? Two headstrong *ahem* young ladies at total loggerheads with each other.... Oh my. From the contract kiss through Louise's condescending attitude to a "commoner."
That will get MESSY. Especially if Asuka's Eva piloting ability translates strangely to the local physics.

Remember, class -- once we have pulled the cottontail pin, Mr. Plotbunny Grenade is no longer our friend....

THE FINAL DAYS OF THE SILVER MILENNIUM
As part of Beryl's covert pre-war maneuvering, the Earth Kingdom begins suffering from an increasing number of terroristic attacks against its stability and infrastructure by low-grade youma operating in unprecedented numbers. With the hit-and-fade attacks too widespread and random to be countered by his limited number of elite magical warriors, but at the same time too powerful for his unpowered regular forces to manage, the King of Earth decides to create a new class of 'middle-weight' combatants not magical warriors, but magically enhanced soldiers, augmented enough to defeat the rising threat, or at least hold out until heavier reinforcements can arrive. The result is to be a unit composed of ten thousand volunteers, their life energies intermeshed such that each soldier's life is supported by all the rest, granting enhanced durability, healing, and resistance to most youma magical attacks, and with each soldier's death passing his strength on to his fellows as a final gift.
Unfortunately, thanks to her control over the King's already-corrupted Guardians, Beryl learns of the project and embarks on a plan of sabotage, beginning with the selection process. By the time the ten thousand are assembled for the great Working, better than half the volunteers are Beryl's minions, witting or otherwise, and with the Guardians' assistance she intends for the Working to forcibly convert the rest, granting her an entire covert army already inside the heart of the Earth Kingdom's defenses.
But the King's mages are not so clueless as Beryl assumes, nor as helpless the Working ends with the ten thousand newly-enhanced soldiers battling each other on the palace's ceremonial grounds, Beryl's hand tipped, and the Guardians exposed as her pawns.
Forced to kick off her conquest prematurely, Beryl nonetheless succeeds almost entirely: the King is slain in the first hour and the kingdom falls within a few more. The only fly in the ointment is that a handful of the ten thousand, forming an ad hoc bodyguard, have fought their way clear of the palace and obtained transport to the Moon Kingdom, along with Prince Endymion, whilst the remainder of the loyalists made a desperate forlorn hope against their turncoat brethren.
In the end, it matters little. Beryl pursues Endymion to the Moon, and the remaining soldiers die alongside their prince, and the Sailor Senshi and their princess. Queen Serenity's final strike to seal away Beryl's forces takes the turncoats among the ten thousand as well... but her final act of hope, sending her people forward to be reborn on Earth in a later age, gathers up the loyalists. With their life forces still enmeshed by the King's final Working, many from both sides of the ten thousand are scattered across the following milennia, with their enhancement oddly skewed by the interaction of the conflicting magics, no memory of their past lives, and only a sense that they must find each other and finish what the fall of the Silver Millennium began. They will become the root of countless legends and myths, but their war will not end until....
TODAY
During the first conflict between the newly-awakened Sailor Moon and the forces of the re-emergent Dark Kingdom, due to blind luck, the life of the mysterious warrior Tuxedo Mask is placed in dire jeopardy. He survives, but around the world, the survivors of the reincarnated ten thousand, loyalist and turncoat alike, stop whatever they are doing and turn in the direction of Japan....
The Gathering is now, in the Juuban ward of Tokyo. And as the Immortals converge upon the battlefield where the final battle of the Silver Millennium will finally be concluded, they will have to come to grips with the fact that the mythology they wove for themselves out of dreams and shards of memory was a lie that there need not be only one, and that there is no Prize... except victory in a war none of them remember, and few would care about if they could.
Loyalties will be tested. Sides will be chosen and changed. And two desperate handfuls of beleaguered amnesic warriors will find themselves forced to join forces against a united foe which dwarfs them in both power and numbers....
----------------------------------------------------
Well, okay, *I* thought that making the reincarnates natives of Earth rather than "Senshi Support Force X" from the Moon was a bit more original.
I think it could really work, though. If I ever get around to trying to write this, my intention is/was to basically dump the established "Highlander" timeline(s), which is a mess anyway, and just grab all the neatest characters from the movie (There was Only One!) and the TV series and dump them into SM Seaon 1. About the only one I couldn't reasonably drag in would be Ramirez, dangit....

The bunny kicked me in the head on the rebound....

Everyone knows about the the Ishin Shishi's war against the Shinsengumi in Kyoto. Everyone knows that Kyoto was burned to the ground as part of this conflict.
Once again, history is... incomplete. During the height of the Bakumatsu, the most elite swordsmen of both sides found themselves targeted by a new enemy, a third party with no care for their conflict, but interested only in... trophies.
But worst of all, the city of Kyoto saw unleashed a new horror, of such magnitude that all three warring parties would find themselves left with no choice but to unite against a threat which if unchecked would end... everything.
Aliens Vs Predator: Bakumatsu.

Okay, here's one that struck me a couple days ago... How many people remember the movie that was called variously Leon or The Professional? Made 1994, was Natalie Portman's first film -- 12 years old, playing a young girl who's fallen in love with the hit man who saved her from a corrupt DEA official, and who is learning his trade from him?
It's 2003, nine years later. Mathilda is 21 years old and as deadly an assassin as Leon ever was.
And is empowered when Willow Rosenberg casts the spell that activates all potential Slayers.
(I have extensive notes for a different crossover with The Professional, btw, but I'm not going to say what it is, because I want to surprise people with it one of these days...)-- Bob
---------
One of the primary differences between the Left and the Right is their attitude toward the Future. The Radical wants the Future to have gotten here yesterday. The Reactionary wants the Future quietly shot and the corpse buried where no one can find it.

Then the horns kicked in...
...and my shoes began to squeak.

Holds up hand.
Yes I remember. I fact I'm enough of a geek for this movie that I prefer the original french version (leon) over the american version (the professional) because the american censors had a problem with the relationship between the two and ended up cutting some of the training scenes out.
totally changes the feel of a couple of the later scenes (Mathilda is seen as a viable threat, and not a child bent on revenge).
I do remember reading a spamfic along these lines on tthfanfic.org a while ago. It wasn't good enough to remember the name of though.-Terry

That was a spamfic? I thought it was a real fic... I remember a story with that idea, anyway.
