At around 2130 on this evening of 27th May, the CO put out over the 1MC those among the enlisted that advanced...
I am now a Petty-Officer, 3rd Class (E-4)!

Being ex-service, this requires a couple of questions. (don't answer if too personal or violates security)

What's your rate?

and

How long have you been in-service so far?

He's a gummers mate, but I forget how long he's been in. Somewhere between 1-2 years though.

Congrats BA. How's your arm feeling after they've 'tacked' on that crow?

I thought the navy had the problem of canabilism relatively under control...
Seriously though, congrats are in order; and perhaps hot sauce an an unchallenging Merlot... wait stop...

If you're going to be eating the Gummer's Mate, you're gonna need a whole lot of hot sauce. Fortunately, your new payscale should allow you to afford this!

Congrats, BA!

Thanks everyone! (^_^)
It turns out I did a lot better on the exam than I originally thought. OUt of a possible score of 80 points, I made 75. Meanwhile, the average for this exam cycle was 52 points. I thought they were pulling my leg at first when I started getting comments like, "You smoked that test!" and "Rhodes! You blew that shit outta the water!"
Rod: I got my eyes on Warrant - at age 29 I don't have much chance at scoring a good O-package. Besides, on certain matters a Warrant Officer commands a little more respect that a regular Commissioned Officer. Got my eye set on making positive changes to the Navy.
LOL! Bob: funny you should mention that. Now I have to go to Petty-Officer Indoctrination. The Navy is weird this way among its enlisted - it's almost like a caste system. You have your Seamen (E-1 to E-3), your Petty-Officers (E-4 to E-6), and your Chiefs (E-7 to E-9).
Kurisu: Like Star said, I'm a Gunners Mate and I've been in for a little more than three years. Though I wish I had joined a few years earlier - then I would have got my rate at the big Green House where there was a lot more hands-on training. It's a big greeen-glass building at NTC Great Lakes thats been condemned because all the glass is leaded. Of course, they can't really get rid of it because it was made by Germans as part of the reparitions from WWII. IIRC, they had actual systems for Mk45 and Mk75 guns, the Mk13 and Mk26 missile launchers, and Surface Vessel Torpedo Tubes. (One of the wooden shields that kept people on the outside of the building from getting blasted whenever they fired air-slugs still bears the mark of a tube-cover someone forgot to remove.)
Once again, thanks everyone! (^_^)

Ah, yest the start of the NCODP ladder. You do realize what comes next after you go thru the Navy's equivalent of PLDC, right?
Paperwork!
Or the electronic equivalent thereof...*snicker*

Just to be fair, I should tell you what I was when I was in.

Sonar Tech (STG) and I got as far as E-5 in 6 years. (Yes, I was a push-button, I know)

I have no knowledge of military employment, but I assume the pay raise is worth the paperwork/responsibilities/other hassles?

Eh, Base pay goes up by about $300/month, but then, so does my Cost of Living Allowance, which offsets a high cost of living depending on where you're located. Given that I'm in Japan... *CHA-CHING!*
