Windows .hlp files
Windows .hlp files
#1
So, I have this document. It's set up as a series of old-fashioned Windows .hlp files, hyperlinked heavily and the like.
I want it to be readable on my PDA, an HP iPaq running Windows Mobile 6 Classic.
Anyone got a workable, preferably FOSS, reader available?
ETA: Yes, I know that there are convert-to-RTF tools out there. That's not in the slightest what I want. I don't want to change the format, I want a program that'll run on the PDA and read the files as they are.

Is the problem with convert-to-rtf that it loses the links and stuff?

Because I ran into a (non-free, but with a demo) program that'll convert .hlp files to html, which sounds like it'd preserve some of that anyway.

... that could possibly work, yes. How is the demo set up? Limited number of files, limited time?

Demo is time-limited and doesn't support batch conversion, among possibly other things, it's not that clear. And apparently it doesn't support "HLP internal links", so that might make it less than useful for you.

Another route might be to convert the files to .chm (aka "the new help format") and get a reader for *that*. I'm not quite clear on whether or not you should already have that reader, but there seem to be some around. And there seem to be a lot more information and tools available for doing that sort of conversion.

The wiki page doesn't provide much help, aside from pointing out that there's no wiki-known .chm viewer available for winmoble 6. However one apparently exists for the iPad/iPhone.

Thanks so much, Rod. Buy me an iPad while you're at it. Wink
