And once again, it's time for a new ATT thread. The last thread can be found here.

Just a heads-up -- we need to keep an eye on Batata. They've been demonstrating a habit of creating redlinks by just marking up things they think ought to be tropes -- like "sexual innuendo" and "toplessnesses" (sic). They are clearly also not bothering to look anything up to confirm it exists -- I just had to correct a link to "black plague" to our existing page "The Black Death".

I also noticed - and fixed - their potholing "Yakov Smirnoff" (who we have a page for) to "Russian Reversal", a redirect to a trope that said creator popularized.

A quick note that Miraheze has now hit its 10th anniversary, which means that ATT has been hosted there for roughly 9¾ months.  Anyone wanting to share birthday wishes or cake images can edit this page.

What's our trope for a character who was inspired by a real person? I want to add this 2019 reveal to Back to the Future (film)/Trivia.

No Celebrities Were Harmed is the trope adequated for this.

And from where I come from, "reveals" like these are called parody retcons(oh yeah, A Serbian Film was totally about Rocco Siffedri, wink wink). But if you really believe those words are honest and it is not a publicity stunt, well, do it.

Is there a trope for a cast in which every woman is gorgeous, even the allegedly "un-pretty" ones? Kind of like World of Buxom, but more along the lines of "World of Beauties"? I sorta-kinda remember that one exists, but I can't for the life of me find it.

We have plenty of individual appearance tropes (such as Hollywood Homely), but the only group appearance trope I can remember is World of Buxom. And we don't appear to have a category for these.

EDIT: We have a category now, but it's essentially unpopulated. Category:World of Stereotypes

RE-EDIT: Generic Cuteness, maybe? Although that isn't quite what you described.

Yeah, I looked at that one, and it's more about art style than anything else.

Maybe I'm misremembering. I'll have to think on it and search some more.

Thanks.

Do we have a trope for mishearing something said in casual conversation, the way that we have "Mondegreen" for mishearing song lyrics?

Example: The last two panels of this web comic.

I don't think so... if we can find a couple more good examples I'd say we have a Workshop candidate here.

Any chance we could get a few more opinions in this thread, please?

It got sidetracked into a "no, we're not TVT, you did good" discussion at first. Right now, only Milkman Conspiracy and Nomireligion (the new troper who spotted the issue) are talking about it. As the guy who asked the question, I think I should leave it to others to discuss so that I don't look like I'm trying to guide things to the result that I want...

Managed to fat finger "Approve All" for Pregler Lupa when in the moderation queue. Going to actually review what was approved, but wanted to note that for now, the recent approvals have not yet been reviewed.

Notes from review
Will have to leave a message telling them to read the style guide. As best I can tell, nothing seems to be plagiarized at least, but there’s a lot that’s questionable.
Significant notes:
* I would like to reject the edit to Bullying the Disabled/Web Original. Whilst it appears to be original content, it is for a trope page we don’t have.
* The edit to defector from Decadance probably goes too far. I don’t doubt there are bad editors on the sites they listed, as there are on most sites, but I think calling the whole site a wretched hive of GIFTs is a bit far.
Lower Priority:
* Would like a second opinion on their edit to Informed Wrongness.
* I would like a second opinion on No except Yes.
* I’m not sure how accurate the claim made in Unwitting Instigator of Doom is, but I stopped following My Little Pony news circa 2014.
* Speaking as one, Americans can indeed be culturally ignorant of the works in other countries as pointed out by the new edit in Adaptation Displacement. However I’m not sure how the Tick can be Adaptation Displacement for Supertorpe when Supertorpe came out after The Tick?
* On the fence about consolidation in Sadly Mythtaken, may warrant a partial revert.
* The page creation for Captain America Brave New World/YMMV is for one entry for a trope we don’t have, and a YMMV for a work we don’t have.

I gave them a message about that ten days ago.

This now counts as "ignoring the mods". I've given them that reminder.

Which is sufficient grounds for rejection.

It also doesn't list a work name in its only example -- this makes me think that the text should have been added to the trope description, not marginalized in a subpage.

It's also the only subpage for the trope. It should have gone on the trope page.

The fact that the page is missing all of the automation that would have integrated it into the rest of the wiki (and thus made it possible to find the page) is just the cherry on top... even though we've rejected pages for that reason in the past.

I'm not going to wait for consensus on that one. Edit undone to remove libellous text that put the entire wiki at legal risk. I've let them know that they are now On Notice.

Partial revert done. That was a highly-detailed discussion of how "Ah! My Goddess" qualified that they replaced with a substantially shorter section shared with another work. With no edit reason given, there was no reason to cut the discussion.

"a YMMV for a work we don’t have" is sufficient reason to delete the page. They're welcome to create a work page, but not a subpage for a nonexistent page.

We need to talk to Darkmatterman4500 about his daily addition of unused redirects. It was a little annoying the first few times, now it's getting ridiculous.

Seen on Miraheze Meta:

Quote:The YouTube extension is now restricted and will be removed in the upcoming MediaWiki 1.44 upgrade. Wikis that need this functionality can migrate to EmbedVideo.

How are we displaying YouTube videos?

Do we need to change anything so that nothing breaks?

If not, should we change things anyway for privacy reasons ("This privacy enhanced fork adds a toggleable setting that only loads external content after the user gave explicit consent by clicking the video"), or so that we can play videos from archive.org?

Le sigh.

From the new page "The SuperSword Warriors" that's currently waiting in the moderation queue:
Quote:I'd give you more examples but i'm kind of too lazy which is how much shout outs this show contains.

He's also too lazy to use the new-page creator template.

Or to format what he did add to the shout-outs list.

Or to learn the difference between written fiction and a TV series.

Or, as shown in the line that I quoted, to capitalize pronouns correctly.

(Or to host his work somewhere that people can find it – it's on a subpage of his talk page on Miraheze Meta, of all places – but that's his worry, not ours.)

Who wants to deal with this one? I have personal work that's been piling up all week...

I think a model where there is a privacy toggle is preferable, it adds an element of consent for the user, which is nice.

Is there a trope for where, in the fiction of the work, it is the decision of the viewer/player to consume the media in the first place that instigates a major plot development?

I want to say this is either an inversion of "The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You" or potentially an "Unwitting Instigator of Doom", but it feels odd.

I'm not aware of one, no. "Choose Your Own Adventure" seems to be the closest that we have to this.
