A strange rather retro update notification here, but the first story in the Compelled Series, Compelled to Play Again has just been renovated two years on. I've cleaned
up some dialogue, corrected some errors and generally made the text a little less clunky.
No changes to the actual storyline but it is a few thousand words longer than it was a week ago and I think it's a somewhat better read now. I'm hoping
to get some positive response from the readership and if it seems worth it I'm going to move on and fix the second story in the series too.

I didn't think this chapter was as good as the first two -- too much author filibuster and general ranting about how much Jet Alone sucks. I'm trying
to decide whether it would've been worth it to just call Literary Agent Hypothesis on those damn control rods and change them for this fic's version of
JA, or whether that'd fall under "arbitrarily violating canon for one's convenience."

Uhm... You do know how a nuclear reactor works, right? Besides, I don't see how it's not keeping with the original - the control rods extending from the top of the body was in the anime as well. At any rate, whether those were control rods, cooling stacks, what have you, the author had the right idea: they were a vulnerability to be capitalized upon. Besides, I also agree that the idea to let Shinji!Shinju fight it in Eva 01 instead of taking it out with a virus was a much more... How shall I say? It had a certain je ne sais quoi that Gendo’s original plan lacked.

Yes, I know they were like that in the anime. My point is, the author's outrage over it and his use of his character as a mouthpiece for that outrage detracted from the story, at least my experience of it, to the point where it might've been better to just change the design for the fic so they weren't sticking out like that, and so there'd be less reason to rant. The war game, I have no objection to.
I just realized -- Jet Alone is the Boxbot of Eva fanfic.
