Trump "exceeded his authority": federal judge
08-26-2018, 08:28 AM
AP:
Federal judge rules Trump "exceeded his authority" in issuing orders curtailing collective bargaining for federal workers
"This court finds that these provisions conflict with congressional intent in a manner that cannot be sustained"
Anybody want to bet that Trump learns from this that the US President is not an unlimited monarch? Anybody? Anybody?

Feh. If only. More likely we see another round of "that ruling was a travesty."

Um, maybe someone should remind the judge of the precedent set against this by the air traffic controllers strike, because I'm sure it will be part of the brief when this is appealed

Different circumstances - Reagan fired the ATCs, he didn't use an executive order to unilaterally change their contract.

Yes, I would. Better that than change their contracts without their informed consent. However, if they're going to be let go, it had better be for cause. (Reagan had cause.)
Actually, I'm surprised that Trump pulled this stunt in the first place. If he'll change one contract, he'll change another - so who would risk entering into a contract with him knowing this once he's no longer President?

If the numpty showed any ability to predict, or perhaps just the wit to care about, the consequences of his actions, that might be a factor. He's repeatedly demonstrated that he's exclusively about saying what sounds good (to and about himself at least) at the moment without any concern for the reactions it will cause, or even what he said in the last tweet/sound bite/etc..
