Well, Becoming a Man Among Men certainly doesn't like Akane.  At all.  Though I found it illuminating in that it exaggerates her character flaws, which I tend to overlook.

Bashing tends to be pretty rampant in those two particular fandoms. Those two fics are sadly not the worst offenders, but still easily bad enough that I didn't make it very far into either.

The plot of Ranma or Love Hina would fall apart if the (main) characters did deserve to be bashed. The whole romantic tension comes from a choice between different winners, not from having an obvious choice and a bunch of obvious miss-takes. Resolving the romantic mess is the traditional plot for a Ranma fanfic. Doing so by reducing the "fiancee brigade" into a diamond and two lumps of coal is lazy writing.

I suspect any Romance/Slapstick Harem series would invite massive amounts of bashing, just due to "Die For Our Ship" and the personality defects required to achieve Slapstick.

Ranma, at least, has a leavening of action writers, to whom such bashing is a mildly alien thing.

Mm.  Read this all almost in one sitting, having never seen it before. The guy's not the best at the technical side of writing -- hell, kind of clumsy at it in places -- but I have to admit I enjoyed the story, mostly, even though it is an almost standard-issue Super!Harry vs. Manipulative!Dumbledore story.  One interesting deviation from the usual though is the extent to which the author goes to make it clear that Harry's repenting friends are dreadfully sincere and all deserve a second chance -- right before Harry denies it to them.  That's a delightful bit of sadism I've never seen executed quite that way before.
